Damnation Festival have announced the second band for their 2012 - gloomy gothic five-piece, My Dying Bride . This will be the first time the Bradford quintet have played Damnation since 2008. The band will be playing the Jägermeister Stage - the same stage they played to a capacity crowd in 2008. Damnation Festival will be the band's only non-London show in the UK for 2012, which gives Northerners and other non-capital dwelling Southerners even more reason to make the trek up to Leeds in November. [...]
OH YEAH. Damnation Festival have confirmed their first band for 2012 - and by heck, is it a beast. The almighty force of nature that is Pig Destroyer will be playing their first UK show in eight years at this year's Damnation Festival, taking place in many months time in November. PIG DESTROYER. PIG DESTROYER. PIG DESTROYER. YESSSSSS. To save us from just typing more nonsense in capital letters, we're just going to stick up the first poster that Damnation Festival have [...]
Blackwater Park , Deliverance , Damnation , and Lamentation are on the way.
Conan
From: Liverpool, UK Lazy equation: (Sleep + Batillus) x as many MATAMP amps as you can get your hands on. URL: Website // Facebook Thrash Hits Verdict: We first became aware of Conan last year, when one of our photographers, Matt Thomas, started singing their praises at us. Well, when say "singing", we really mean "sent us an email". Given that like Conan, he's based up in Liverpool, he's far too far away from us for us to [...]
We go to festivals. We go to festivals and sometimes we see bands, other times we just sit in the ruddy media centre talking to bands on camera and posting videos and photos on the internet. It sounds more glamorous than it is. Luckily you always end up with a load of stuff that we've done from as many of the festivals we can physically go to. We go to a lot of them though. This means that we like some more than others. Let's talk about that... -- Raziq Rauf [...]

Lydia with old friend, Fender Telecaster "They're gonna feel almighty When I can barely stand I just tell them I couldn't turn down One more glass of the blood of the lamb." About a month ago, I had the good fortune to see Lydia Loveless and Wild Flag on the same day (October 29). I actually saw Lydia twice. She and Ben Lamb, her standup bassist/husband (not necessarily in that order) played a 30 minute in-store [...]

We appreciate that some of our readers might not have heard of Paul Catten - he has, after all, been making music for longer than some of our readers have been alive. For those of us in our late 20s and beyond though, Paul Catten first became known to us as the frontman of the notorious and furious [...]
Dragged Into Sunlight do not do black metal the way you think black metal should be done. They don't do pantomime costumes or cake their faces in corpse paint. They eschew personal identities altogether - not only do they refuse to acknowledge the names of any of their four members, but the entire band face away from their [...]
Ulver had been due to take the stage half an hour earlier than originally billed, after the unfortunate circumstances that led to Decapitated pulling out of Damnation Festival left a rather large hole in the line-up. Instead they went on just after their original scheduled time. We'd be more annoyed about standing around like lemons [...]
There was no act louder than Godflesh at Damnation Festival 2011. Even with ear protection, we didn't dare approach the front of the Jägermeister stage, in case the industrial pioneers shattered every bone in our inner ear. How Gary Wolstenholme go close enough to get these snaps and escape with his eardrums unruptured we'll never know. [...]
Doom brought a welcome change of pace to the Terrorizer stage at this year's Damnation Festival - that of a 40 minute barrage of vintage crust. We've got no idea how many songs they were able to rattle through in that time, but we do know their presence upped the number of dreadlocks rocking the [...]
We know why you've come here. You've come here because our photographer, Gary Wolstenholme, took some photos of Doris Yeh when Chthonic played Damnation Festival 2011. Don't be ashamed. Go and put on your copy of Takasago Army if it makes you feel better. We're listening to it right now and don't feel guilty for lingering [...]
What do we get when Damnation Festival 2011 mixed extreme guitar playing with even-more-extreme saxophone playing? We got Shining, from Norway, that's what. Gary Wolstenholme was n hand with his camera, as always. -- Click here to see the rest of our coverage of Damnation Festival 2011.
There are two things we notice every time we see Turisas play live. Firstly, they always seem to have new band members (their accordion player have been replaced by a keyboard player! Scandalous!). Secondly, their war-paint gets thicker and shinier each and every time we see them. At Damnation Festival 2011, our snapper, Gary Wolstenholme, was on [...]

The Netherlands is traditionally one of the strongholds for D&B outside the UK with a whole host of A-List dj's and producers having risen up through the ranks to dominate on the global scene in recent years. The countries latest d&b export comes from the RSA crew out of Amsterdam in the shape of their new label project Eastern Promise Audio. Whilst they walk a slightly different path to the aforementioned a-listers the ideals and ethos behind the project and the collaborative, community based approach to it are something worthy of examination (& praise) so EDJ caught up with the [...]
It's been a bit of a slow news day, but thankfully Damnation Festival have come to rescue by announcing the final seven bands of their 2011 line-up, chief among them being Grand Magus. Joining the Swedish metal outift in he final brace of bands to be added to the bill are Cerebral Bore, Conan, A Forest Of Stars, Humanfly, Talons, [...]
Damnation Festival continues their fine tradition of booking amazing acts for their festival today, when they announced that The Devin Townsend Project is to headline this year's event. As anyone who's ever seen Townsend perform live can testify, the Canadian is well-deserving of the epithet of "genius" that is so often levelled at him, and [...]
Well, well, well - for once, the most interesting band announced in a festival line-up announcement isn't the biggest or best-known name. Damnation Festival have announced that leading Brit-thrashers Evile, Finnish battle metallers Turisas, djentish-types Xerath, and the curiously titled A Man Called Catten will all be performing at this year's Damnation Festival in Leeds. [...]
A little deathcore does the eardrums good, though it's hard to say in strict or definitive terms what constitutes "good" or "bad" deathcore. This screaming, destructive, high-kicking mayhem of a metal sub-genre is steps above baseline hardcore in violence or interpretation of the human species; it strips away self-loathing and sadness found in emo, favoring Cannibal Corpse-ish brutality and chunkier bass. Utah has its hands full living up to the image of SLC Punk (that is, if anyone still recalls that film-or Matthew Lillard, for that matter), while steering far from whatever The Used considers itself [...]
