The three piece band was formed in 2008 and consists of Noelle LeBlanc, her brother Danny and long-time friend Mikey C. The band's debut 9-track album Sleep When We Are Dead was recorded in the summer 2009 in their friends' small studio outside of Houston,TX over the course of 3 weeks. Recently The Organ Beats released a cover [...]

Brighton's break-beat boys Evil Nine have just launched their own label, called For Lovers, it will be a platform for material and other emerging artists - we think the name is terrible, but logo isn't bad at all. Their first release is a 3-track affair with Ultimo very much at the forefront. They've handed remixing duties to Dem Slacker - you can listen to them all below and grab the rave-tastic Ultimo for free. And on top of that they have done a Soundcloud mix if you still haven't got your fix. [...]

[I have a copious amount of new music to share this week — so much that I'm starting on a holiday. Enjoy yours.] Shane Alexander has been crafting beautiful songs around these parts for better than a decade now, first as a member of the L.A. band Damone* and for the past four albums as a solo artist. (* I still love telling the story about how he sold the band name to a major label for a princely sum .) [...]

Evil Nine are the latest artist to remix The Gorillaz' new track Superfast Jellyfish. It's a full-fat dance remix and is a certified banger for sure. We also have a DJ mix from the duo recorded in Brighton. The Gorillaz - Superfast Jellyfish (Evil Nine remix) Evil Nine - DJ Session in Brighton, March 2010 from R.fm at Letsmix.com .

Compilations collecting genre obscurities have become ubiquitous in the decade since the re-release of Nuggets by Rhino in 1998. From Soul Jazz Records' expert retrospectives to idiosyncratic reissue labels like Subliminal Sounds, the average trip to the (proverbial?) record store promises not only the latest contemporary releases, but also a definitive sampling of once-obscure genres like Italo Disco and African Highlife. Stones Throw imprint Now-Again has assembled Forge Your Own Chains with this market saturation in mind. The 16-track survey of "Heavy Psychedelic Ballads and Dirges" recorded between 1968 and 1974 forgoes loyalty to a specific country or style of [...]

now this lysergic brothers and sisters, haunted ladies and gentlemen, woozy fuckers and fuckees, is a compilation. tired of nuggets, and pebbles and ummmm... geegaws? well take off yr irony hat and sneery spectacles coz this is fifteen wonderfully transcendent tracks of totally zonked excursions into the inner head-o-sphere. it's like some eerie united nations assembly of bad hair, bad drugs and righteous bloody psyche-outs. but this shroom-addled bastard fairly crackles with great skronks of e-lec-tri-city in amongst the nursery rhyme weirdness and trumpet solos and la-la-la's. it's an obscurists [...]

DOWNLOAD: The Organ Beats - "Happy Birthday Come On Home" (from Sleep When We Are Dead ) Last weekend, I played Damone's debut CD, From the Attic , for the first time in years and I had forgotten what a great power pop disc this was. The band played a lot of high profile shows around town (opening for Joan Jett at North Six, Ramps & Amps Festival on Randall's Island, etc.) in 2005 - 06 but then seemed to fade from view. After taking [...]

A while back in the comment section, some semi-anonymous seer inveighed against my admiration for what Stones Throw is doing. I don't get it. Unlike most of the now mostly moribund labels of the indie-rap boom, they've managed to keep quality control high, output steady, and craft a sensible and generous promotional policy for the digital age. Granted, the Atwater-based label isn't above putting out the occasional dud, but they've been few and far between. And over the last two years, with the launch of Egon's Now-Again spinoff, few imprints are able to match the impeccable excavation they've done in [...]

Considering they're situated in California, it would've been easy for Now & Again to create a psychedelic comp from the 60s and 70s. A quick jaunt to San Fran and back would've given them enough material to draw from, but that's not Egon's style. Built upon the reputation the Stones Throw subsidiary has created--impeccable production, liner notes and, of course, music--the <a href=" http://www.stonesthrow.com/new s/2009/10/forge-your-own-ch...

From Hippie DJ Kit: "Damon is the artistic name of David Del Conte, a genius American gypsy musician who is responsible for one the rarest and most sought-after psychedelic album of all time. Based in Los Angeles, David Del Conte and Charlie Carey had already pursued careers in popular music for many years before deciding to embrace the underground rock movement. His debut album, Song of a Gypsy , which was originally released in 1969, has a totally unique sound, with the "crooner-like" voice of Damon, the omnipresent melodic fuzz guitar of Charlie Carey and truly atmospheric [...]

Oceans 13 is scheduled for release on June 8, 2007. Oceans 12 was kind of a mess plot-wise, but the dialogue was good and the actors are so great you forget that films are supposed to make more sense. I would watch Clooney, Pitt and Damon sit around talking about anything. Throw in cool music and some heist scenes and Im there. Tags: [...]
I'm going to try here to keep up to date. My very best. It's slowed down a little bit here at work, so I've got a few free minutes. These are all songs I'm listening to on the regular (as Justin Timberlake would say in his truly awesome "My Love" with T.I. - but I won't link that in fear of the Gods of Intellectual Property, but it's pretty much a contender for the top song of the year). Feist - Mushaboom (k-os Remix) [...]

Alot of my recent art attention has been aimed at this artist, Damon Soule. I find his paintings to be an excellent modern exercise, combining elements of street art, geometric figuration, and a good deal of skill. You can see lots more of his works at his website , which is excellent. He is currently showing at Lineage Gallery in Philadelphia; wish that I could see this two-man show (the other artist is Mars-1). My introduction to him came through Luna Park , a restaurant in SF. They've [...]
