Dan Auerbach - "Trouble Weighs a Ton" from Keep it Hid In our book the Black Keys are a band that musn't ever be overlooked. With just two members, they produce blues rock that's equally vintage and modern. Guitarist Dan Auerbach decided to put out an album of his own in a more open format, with him playing different instruments, employing different musicians, and recording with all analog gear in his new home studio. The album is titled Keep it Hid and it is out today. The lead [...]

Keep It Hid is the debut solo album from Black Keys' singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach. He plays pretty much every note on every instrument throughout the record. While Auerbach doesn't stray too far from the blues rock formula that has made his band so successful, he does strip away much of the bang and clatter. The result is a greater focus on the songwriting and musicianship. The sound on Keep

Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys has an interesting new record coming out today called Keep It Hid . It's a little bit psychedelic, a little bit bluegrass, a little bit traditional and it's got a few great tunes on it. If you'd like to hear Keep It Hid for yourself, it's streaming right now over at Nonesuch Radio , Spinner.com and MySpace.com . If you'd like to win a copy of the record (on deluxe gatefold vinyl and CD), [...]

Dan Auerbach Dan Auerbach has put out one of the best albums of 2009. I was worried that "Keep It Hid" would sound like his work with the Black Keys. I love the Keys, but I was ready for something different from Dan. "This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies," says Auerbach. Dan is playing at the El Rey Theatre on March 14th (Buy Tix). New Releases - February 10th [...]
New Music Qucikly Examined Kaspar Hauser, The Sons - For years we've been diggin on the folk-rock sounds of Kaspar Hauser. A few months back we got to listen to the rough cuts and liked. The polished stuff is top-notch....
Dan Auerbach is one half of the rock duo The Black Keys and will release his first solo-debut "Keep it Hid" on February 10th. I am really enjoying this record...loving it actually. It's not a complete departure from his work with The Black Keys, but on this solo effort, he takes a more soulful approach [...]

Apparently, releasing one of the better rock records of 2008 wasn't cause enough for Dan Auerbach to take a break. The singer/guitarist and one half of The Black Keys is back already, this time without drummer Patrick Carney, making his solo debut with an LP entitled Keep It Hid . Last year's Black Keys release, Attack & Release, showed the duo expanding their gritty, bluesy rock 'n' roll with the help of Danger Mouse in the producer's chair. The results were generally fantastic, though a number of die hard fans were disappointed in the [...]

New Brother Ali, Baby Guts and Gospel Gossip in the news and next week's new releases including Lily Allen & Dan Auerbach

When I think of Dan Auerbach, I can't help but associate with him with the Black Keys. As the vocalist and lead singer of the Akron, Ohio group, it was hard to focus on him as an individual without connecting him to the Black Keys. I guess that's what makes this album so impressive. Mr. Auerbach does a really nice job of coming up with completely original material for this album. For the most part, he does a good job creating his own sound that is different from his band's material. That is a big problem that musicians tend to [...]
I'm still working my way through my initial listen of Dan Auerbach's first solo album, Keep it Hid, and what can I say? It's Dan from the Black Keys. It's gritty, bluesy rock with that same voice, the one of a battle tested, old soul with a prize fighter's resilience, and the same guitar work: One moment it's blazing with intensity, and the next, it's carrying the heft of a thousand heartbreaks. This time around, he's got a backing band, and a bunch of friends helping out, including members of Hacienda, and local songstress done good, [...]

Featured: FLEET FOXES "Mykonos" DAN AUERBACH "Trouble Weighs A Ton" Those Pecknolds can do just about anything. Head Fleet Fox Robin Pecknold, he of the majestic voice that's totally inappropriate for a 22-year-old (read: we're jealous), has again enlisted his brother Sean for directing purposes, and it turns out that he's pretty damn talented too. Sean and team spent the last four weeks [...]
Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid Release Date: Feb. 10 Label: Nonesuch Rating: 90 ________ This is not a Black Keys sound-alike. On this solo debut, Auerbach's lack of a cohesive sound is the most surprisingly enjoyable part of this record. Country ballads give way to tremolo guitar fuzz, while elements of southern soul/R&B come and go. The album has a Muscle Shoals feel, with a modern [...]

I figured the best way to get back in the groove of posting was to begin with a little Album Release Forecast . I've had this in mind for a while, but kept putting it off because so many of the expected releases I know of don't have much substantiating evidence. Thanks to MySpace for keeping me in the loop with most of these bands' happenings. February, 2009 Dan A uerbach ~ Keep It Hid [...]

Lotus Plaza "White Out" After some burgers, beers, and a random Pavement sighting, contributor Mike Bailey and I hashed it out about the records that are doing it for us (Dan Auerbach) and those that really aren't (Lonely Dear). Lotus Plaza has Mike (and other bloggers) fairly jazzed. While I haven't heard the record yet, I can defintely say that this track from Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt's side project bodes really well for the LP The Floodlight Collective due March 24 (Kranky). While I enjoyed [...]
