photo by Jim Quine Dan Auerbach has been through some changes since we first came in contact with him. Back then he was a young dude going deep in the blues but still down for finely crafted pop and stoopidsmart hiphop who's life was changed by the sound of Junior Kimbrough. Now he's found himself in demand, the man to mention by some of music's biggest boys to help them return to the river. A smart kid with a deep curiosty and hunger for the thing that moved him. Auerbach's [...]
A few months back Dan Auerbach - one half of the Akron-based blues combo The Black Keys - announced he'd be releasing and touring behind his solo debut Keep It Hid . The album, which hits stores on February 10, was recorded and self-produced by Auerbach at his Akron Analog studio and features a much fuller and diverse sound than most Keys' records. Don't get too alarmed though, still there is his trademark fuzzy blues sound, but also thrown into the mix are some gospel harmonies, psychedelic-soul, [...]

Dan Auerbach, otherwise known as the singer/songwriter/guitarist of The Black Keys, will release his debut solo album next week on Nonesuch Records. Auerbach handles much of the instrumentation himself, including drums, guitar, percussion, and keyboards, with various friends and family contributing on rhythm guitar, bass, and harmony. Even better, when Auerbach takes his show on the road for a tour starting later this month, the San Antonio quartet Hacienda will lend support as his backing band. For anyone who ever wished The Black Keys were a four-piece, Keep It Hid is like manna from heaven. The album is [...]

It's a month into 2009, and clear favorites are emerging in my iTunes for the year. Granted, there is a long way to go in the year, but here are my Top 10 listened to songs of 2009 so far. Some of the songs on this list are older, sure. I'll do this toward the end of each month; it should be an interesting look at the year once December rolls around. Vetiver – Everyday [...]
Dan Auerbach is best known as the front man to the blues rock duo from Ohio, The Black Keys. Their album last year was mixed in the studio by Danger Mouse, adding some glossy elements to their usual rough sound. Some of the fan base didn't take to the polished sound. Well, it appears [...]

Dan Auerbach's new solo LP, Keep It Hid is sounding pretty solid. It's a lot more mellow than what Black Keys fans might be expecting, but I absolutely dig his sound. My favorite tune (right now) is definitely "Whispered Words." The video (above) is an unofficial clip of Dan performing with his Uncle James "Trouble Weighs A Ton," which is the first single from Keep It Hid . Definitely a must watch, plus you get a glimpse of Dan's Akron Recording Studio where I'm sure he lays down sick tracks on the reg. Enjoi! [...]
Dan Auerbach is a name you might not be familiar with. He's actually the frontman of The Black Keys. Now that definitely rings a bell, right? He's getting ready to release a solo album entitled, Keep It Hid . The disc, due out February 10th will be released via Nonesuch . "This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychadelia, soul music, country harmonies," says Auerbach. Keep It Hid was produced and engineered by Auerbach at his studio, [...]

You know Dan Auerbach, and he is a busy man. In between being the frontman for The Black Keys, running his own record label, Polymer Sounds , and producing and releasing a great record from Jessica Lea Mayfield, Dan found the time to lay down his first solo album as well. I really dig what I have heard so far, titled Keep It Hid, and you can listen to the a track below as well. The album is due out February 10th on Nonesuch. Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid [...]

After releasing one of the year's best records in 2008, one half of the Black Keys (the guitar/vocal half), Dan Auerbach, is taking a break from his bandmate and releasing a solo album, Keep It Hid , on February 10th. His debut features a full band for the majority of the tracks along with a few quieter blues numbers all of which showcase Auerbach's strong songwriting and thrilling guitar work. It's an instant rock 'n' roll classic, and you can get a listen by hearing "My Last Mistake" below. My Last Mistake [...]
Dan Auerbach , otherwise known as the lead singer of The Black Keys , is set to release his solo debut Keep it Hid on Feburary 10, 2009 on Nonesuch Records . The Black Keys are revered for their "two-man stomp," as Auerbach calls it. On his solo disc, though, Auerbach goes in a more expansive direction, working with a full band and tackling a wide variety of instruments himself. With engineer Mark Neill, he employed analog gear to record and mix. In fact, "Whispered [...]
The Black Keys -duon toiselta osapuolelta Dan Auerbachilta ilmestyy 10. helmikuuta ensimmäinen soololevy Keep It Hid . Esimakua tulevasta tarjoaa oheinen video, jossa Auerbach esittää levyn hienon aloitusbiisin yhdessä enonsa James Quinen kanssa.
Dan Auerbach - "My Last Mistake" If you love the Black Keys like I do, then listen up: the Keys' lead singer Dan Auerbach has a solo release called Keep It Hid on the way. On a scale from thickfreakness to Attack & Release , I'd say the album feels more like Attack & Release . Although the album sports some high-energy, Black Keys-esque blues at times, most of the album finds Auerbach scratching other musical itches. "My Last Mistake" is the first single from the upcoming album (set for [...]
We recently showcased three tracks off Dan Auerbach's forthcoming solo debut. However, not content with just those three, another single titled My Last Mistake has been made available. Enjoy!

Dan Auerbach "My Last Mistake" 2/10 - Nonesuch So we just happen to be on a major soul music kick recently. We've been rocking some Staple Singers, Betty LaVette and numerous Eccentric Soul records. Not to mention, we've been spinning the Stanley Brothers' Sweeter Than the Flowers pretty hard of late as well. So when we read the PR about the new Dan Auerbach record Keep It Hid , we were psyched. While we're checking the box every [...]
Fiction Family is… Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek and Jon Foreman of Switchfoot. Last week they released their self-titled album, the first from the duo. The album features 12 original tracks written, arranged and recorded by Watkins and Foreman at their homes in San Diego. Of the album, Foreman says, "We came up with a few cowboy rules for the project: No double tracking. No pussyfooting. No tuning of vocals. etc… With very few exceptions, every note was written, arranged, played and recorded by Sean and myself." [...]
