12 Ryan Adams is a bit of an indie rock god, so the proper way to cover him is to keep it simple. The songs are gorgeous- everything is there- just sing it with heart. I'm changing things up a little and using the version of "Oh My Sweet Carolina" that Ryan Adams recorded at the end of last year with Laura Marling at Abbey Road. The cover I've chosen is from two of my favorite parts of the Denver music scene and fantastic friends- Dan Craig and Jessica Sonner .

I've pretty much been going nonstop since before the UMS weekend and have fallen dreadfully behind in actually blogging all of the UMS coverage. Sunday left me musically sated with a day full of great people and great music. Birdy at the Hornet I heard the gorgeous vocals from Birdy while walking down Broadway, so I thought I'd pop in to see this band. The Hornet was packed with people enjoying the set. It was definitely worth checking out- a [...]

I have to thank Tiffiny from The Ruckus for telling me about her friend Dan Craig. Dan's a Colorado native that's been releasing folk rock albums consistently over the past several years. Six for six (albums/years), in fact. I'll admit I hadn't heard of any of those albums or songs until being told about him. After searching out some songs by Dan, I found Alchemy . It is from last year but it was my first time hearing it. It's on an album of the same name by Dan and his band. The last [...]

Official | Buy | Somehow a simple christmas carol led me to discover Dan Craig, a Denver man with a band that is currently making a big impression on me. It's his song "Enough" that really caught my full attention, and from there my productivity went way downhill as I was constantly being swept up in his evocative and emotional lyrics. His songs are well rounded with a nice full [...]

It was just last week that I told you christmas carols are one of the most painful forms of music , and a few weeks before I presented you with the anti-holiday cheer mixtape . I'm already tiring of the indie christmas carols I've posted, there are only so many times I can listen to the multiple versions of "Fairytale of New York" before the novelty of singing "you're a bum / you're a punk / you're an old slut on junk" in a...err.."traditional" christmas song wears off. But then I [...]

I've heard it said that the word album has become archaic: the digital age rendering the concept irrelevant. Maybe it's because I'm closer to thirty than to twenty, but I still listen to records as a whole. I still appreciate an artist taking the time to put together a theme and a flow. I still feel there's something to be said for enjoying every track and listening from start to finish. Here is a list of our favorite albums released in 2010. These records have carried us through the year and will continue [...]
Colorado native releases sixth album in six years.
If you're a fan of the folk/rock/pop sound of musicians like Pete Yorn and the great Josh Ritter then you will definitely be interested in this. The Dan Craig Band (The Daniel Craig Band has a better ring to it don't you think?) have their new album, Alchemy, coming out on August 20th. It's the fourth full length from the Denver-based group and it has a lot of promise from the little I've

What is the UMS you ask? Well that's a silly question. Many have called the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase the "South by Southwest of Denver." Originally a one day, four band gig at the Bluebird, this showcase has bounced between Bluebird and Gothic before finally moving (and exanding) to South Broadway in the historic Baker district. Otherwise known as the hipster herding grounds. Excerpted directly from the UMS About page: "At the UMS , the presentation of the music is as important as the music itself. It's the songwriter circle in the Persian rug boutique; [...]

Last night's Nirvana Tribute was more fun than any of us could have imagined. A Dualistics ' performance of In Utero was spot on, transporting the entire crowd back to 1993. Other friends invited to play were judiciously re-interpretting their own Nirvana favorites throughout the evening. Creative highlights include Negative Creep as a blues jam, Come as You Are on casio, and a latin-flavored version of Drain You . myspace It's been a while since I sat down on the computer on a Sunday morning. Between moving, trying to buy a house and countless other things, I just haven't had the time I need each day. But, a got a CD in the mail from Dan Craig , a musician we reviewed last year , and I wanted to see how his sound had changed. His last record, Wirebirds , showed potential and I'm happy to see he's found a style that is going to define him. From te first [...]

I'm super busy trying to finish work before I leave for Hawaii. Needless to say, the post production will slow down a bit but I have some content pre-written and Shane will be holding down the fort (so expect lots of posts about punching Puff Diddles in the face). I wanted to just give you all a quick hitter for a couple of records that are worth discussing, but I don't have the time to give each a full review: Jon Hardy & the Public - Working in Love What do you [...]
