I'm taking a 24-hour break from photo sharing because it's Sunday and I might be lynched by my readers if I don't offer a mix tape for download. I think there's only one (maybe two?) more days worth of photos to share, then I'll get back in the swing of regular updates about how "indie" [...]

Wednesday night I hit up East London to catch the brilliant Dan Melchior perform songs from his latest record, Assemblage Blues (released by Siltbreeze ). Aside from a keen interest in hearing his live show, I was proud to witness it feature two musicians well-known to the Columbus scene. Mat Bisaro (Guinea Worms, Necropolis) and Tony Allman (El Jesus de Magico) were chosen by Melchior for this ten date European tour through five countries. I caught up with Mat and Tony for a bit after the show to chat about the tour and playing with Melchior. [...]

UK expat and current resident of Durham, North Carolina, Dan Melchior has released more than 15 full-length albums on a diverse set of independent labels including In the Red, Siltbreeze and Sympathy For The Record Industry. For his latest release Catbirds And Cardinals he has found a home at Northern-Spy Records . You may try to peg him as a bluesman or garage rocker, or even as a skewed C&W man, but Dan Melchior is perhaps best described as unflinchingly direct, with a sardonic wit and poetic melody, snarling and lunging [...]

It's that time of year again, when grilling meat, arm wrestling, and indie rock somehow end up together in awkward sentences (like this one). This weekend is the seventh annual Columbus Discount Records BBQ, where the local label shares the wealth and gives you a wealth of local/international talent to gaze upon for as free as possible. This year's version of the tradition entails two star-studded rock shows (Friday night at The Summit and Saturday night at Carabar) as well as a multi-faceted get-together Saturday afternoon at CDR HQ (corner of Oak and Parsons, just up [...]
damn that's some devilish eyebrows... bit of dejavu here given the bumbling delays that dragged out my review of das menaces last record thankyou very much. so at long last finally got round to pressing keys with digits for this piece of vinyl joy from the ever polyphiloprogenitive melchior. in contrast to the double lp of grubby sprawling [...]
I've picked up a few of Dan Melchior's records over the years and the man can lay a roughed up blues riff but none of his newer diversions under the "un Das Menace" banner have really grabbed me until now. Tearing at the strings like a psych-blues shaman, Melchior seems to have finally found the perfect balance between his In The Red garage floor beginnings and the unhinged side of the sun. Fuzz blown and string strangled, Obscured by Fuzz lives up to the promises that title brings with it, and Melchoir leads the the ransacked parade in [...]

In a world in which attention spans are dwindling, something must be said of the independent prolific artist. For mainstream musicians, the ability to frequently produce material is coveted, but also expected. In recent years, where lines between indie and pop are becoming increasingly blurred, and trendy authorities such as Pitchfork place such [...]
sweet jeebus this has taken a fucking age to write. usually i crank out these things in ten minute bursts of booze fuelled stream of conscience keyboard abuse - you can tell can't you - hoping desperately to finish before falling asleep or finding myself searching for new additions to my celebrity upskirt pictures collection. are [...]
