Dan Reeder - Work Song I couldn't think of a more suitable song for this very moment than this gem here, seeing as how I just pushed send on the 'resignation from my office job of the last four years' email. I had joked with my friends that I would just attach this song to an email and say "draw a picture", but I decided to keep it classy. So, starting in October, I will be intentionally unemployed. And that's exciting.
I liked Dan Reeder's music from the very first time I heard it. He has that scratchy voice I love, and he drew me right in. This is from his first album, Dan Reeder. It's on John Prine's Oh Boy label. MP3 File yousendit

Before I start this - I am grateful to have a paid job, which has regular hours. But tonight I am exhausted. Crumbling under the weight of my own overblown ambition I rally and regroup, piece myself back together for another onslaught of writing and ideas over evenings and weekends. My mum says "You can only do as much as you can do." But I could always be doing more, until I am eating, sleeping, breathing and bathing it. Cue indulgent music blogging with a bit of narrative... I am reminded of Dan Reeder, who doesn't so much [...]
I have a lot of covers of this song. This is one of my favorites. It's from Sweetheart, released in 2006. MP3 File yousendit

It seems like I haven't done a themed post in months, but I've got a little free time today, so let's break the drought. I'm not going to spend too much time working on it, (see what I did there?), but here are are a few songs about work, or lack thereof, for your Labor Day. I don't have much affection for Rush, ( Tom Sawyer makes me want to hit someone) , but Working Man rocks. The Ramones and Mekons provide a little punk, everyone loves some Bob Marley, and I included the Dan [...]
Last night I watched Julio Lugo hand the game to the Tigers with another error. I screamed in frustration. I watch almost every Sox game. I love it when the camera pans the stands and I see fans carrying trays of food and glasses of beer, just as they should at any baseball game. This song is the anthem for all those beer drinkers. It is from Dan Reeder's second album, Sweetheart. I liked it as much as his first and got [...]
It's been a long time between Dan Reeder songs so here is one of my favorites. This cut is from Dan's second album, Sweetheart, on John Prine's label Oh Boy label. It's all original music except for this cover. MP3 File
So a few weeks back I posted two tunes for my Dad. One was by John Prine and the other was by Dan Reeder. I then got the Dan Reeder album and I really like it. Turns out he is on the same label as John Prine, the excellent Oh Boy Records . Anyho-I wanted to post another tune to bring some attention to this guy-its great to see musicians like Dan creating some great music that flys in the face of the formulaic mish-mash that we can be faced with if we are not [...]

Today's edition of Easy Rockin Sunday begins with Louisiana singer-songwriter Dan Reeder and his ode to suds, I Drink Beer. Off of his latest, Sweetheart, which came out this past September, it's a sweet little strummer of a song. How can you not like a song with a line like "I drink beer to improve my mind/end the war/help mankind." Dan Reeder - I Drink Beer.mp3 I came across the Trainwreck Riders quite accidentally the other night. [...]
Myself and my Dad are music fanatics and we both love to turn each other onto new music. Anytime I go home (not often enough) we will sit in our living room for ages lisetning to music, signing and my Dad drumming away. Now the tradition is being passed onto my youngest nephew who insists on "CD.CD" when he arrives at my folk's home. Once the music goes on he has the drumsticks out. He is barely 2 years old! :-) So Dad- you gave me John Prine a good few years back. I think [...]
