As I do every year, here are two final songs for New Year's. I tend more to mournful dirge than raucous celebration, since the end of the year tends to be a time to reflect back on things not accomplished (again) and people who have passed. I guess I really ought to focus on the renewal of hope part. We artificially divide one year from another and create this sense of rebirth. Start all over again. Make resolutions. Take this crummy year and stick in a drawer. They're giving out new ones! [...]

A sold-out crowd of mostly middle-aged women swooned at the former Semisonic leader's every hip shake.

Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place. This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. [...]
It's America's birthday! Hooray! You know what that means? Well, in my neck 'o the woods that means the mullets come out in full force to see a bunch of cars drive around on Main Street for a few hours after getting their faces rocked off by Styx. What could be better?? I surely couldn't think of a thing. Alright, all sarcasm aside we've decided to give you all an America themed six pack this week. While some may not see them all as erm..."patriotic" we still [...]

Record stores across the nation will be joined by artists and fans to celebrate a dying phenomenon, the record store. There is just something so bland and uninspiring about perusing the racks of Wal-Mart/Target/Best Buy to find new or loved music. Growing up, I spent countless hours browsing my local record store collections, talking to other music fans, and picking the brains of the clerks. The argument used to be indie vs corporate stores. Now it is just keeping any record store alive. This weekend, take a visit to you local store. Enjoy some live [...]

This past Saturday, Kraig and I had a chance to take in the Hotel Cafe Tour. Apologies in advance for the lack of pictures - it seems that Kraig's old digital camera finally decided to bite the dust just in time for the show, so no photos. Sorry! For those of you outside the know, here's a bit of info on the Hotel Cafe and the ensuing tour: Once just a small coffee shop, The Hotel Café has quickly blossomed into not only one of the premier singer/songwriter venues in the United [...]
In my Merry March post, I forgot to mention one of the most important holidays of this month... NOWRUZ !!! Also spelled Norouz, Narooz, Norooz, Nawruz, Newroz, Nauruz, Nawroz, Noruz, Novruz, Nauroz, Navroz, Naw-Rúz, Nowroj, Navroj, Nevruz, Наврӯз , Navruz, Navrez or Nowrouz It is not just the first day of Spring, but it is the first day of many cultures around the world. As I said in my New Year's Eve post, I [...]
Once again, another year over. Once again, a feeling of relief that this one's done and a sense of hope for the coming year. It's amazing what tricks your mind can play on you when you've got New Year's to give you a reset button. Game Over - Restart . "Hope is the things with feathers," said Emily Dickinson . Yeah, it's a songbird. singing the wordless song of hope, or whatever. Maybe hope is the phoenix , rising from the ashes? Here are two songs [...]

After last week, it seems like there couldn't be anything left to release. However, this week doesn't disappoint and gives us some quality music. My emphatic pick for this week is Underworld 's Oblivion with Bells. It's not often that I get to write about one of my favorite artists of all time. Underworld has been a favorite of mine since I first heard Second Toughest In The Infants and they only grew on me as time went on. [...]
Kinda slim pickings this week after a little over a month's worth of consistently great weeks of album releases. I guess we can just sit back and catch our bearings with this week's edition of The Daily Graboid. Not really anything here that I would instantly want, but there could possibly be a few interesting albums here. Starting off with R.E.M.'s first ever live album, Maritime (former members of The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan ) and their new album Heresy & the Hotel Choir , former [...]

With last week being such a monster for new releases I guess the industry decided they should tone it down a bit before our heads explode. Do not be fooled though, there are still a few gems out there worth picking up. Here are a few that we recommend. Albums and MP3's [...]
For those whose eyes simply cannot avert themselves from the car crash that is the life of Britney Spears (guilty), we offer a chance at the prematurest of evaluations. Jive's been dealing with all sorts of leak issues and rumors regarding every aspect of Blackout 's pending release, and they've handled it by bumping up the LP release date and announcing a tracklist. The first nine of Blackout 's twelve songs have been cut into twenty-second segments and strung together for a two-and-a-half minute sonic snapshot; it's not always a pretty picture, but she may have another iTunes [...]
Time is an illusion. Yes, it takes about 24 hours (these things aren't precise) for the Earth to rotate, exposing us to a complete cycle of sunlight, but it depends on where on the globe you are and what time of year it is. And it's about 365 days to move around the sun. But we made up days and weeks and months. Then we pick a day in the middle of Winter and call it the end and the beginning. We need to, I guess. The New Year, we [...]
