West coast folk doesn't get much more beautiful than with Dana Falconberry . You can have the chance to see it in person as she pulls into Toronto to play the Horseshoe tomorrow night. Falconberry, who made quite a stir at SXSW, is touring her latest record Leelanau . Listen to the album track "Crooked River" here:

Twigs & Yarn , composed of Lauren McMurray and Stephen Orsak, is band of the dream genre. Their concept provides a sound much closer to an emotional journey, than a sing-a-long hit. Their new single Yuurei, recently released in March, sends listeners on a lucid journey through a spectrum of sounds from the soft sigh of the vocals, to the twinkling sounds of the keyboard that collide to evoke a soothing, eerie elation for your ears. It's not a song that you get used to, it's a song that you experience. -- Written by Katy Glass
Conoce a Dana Falconberry.

First of all - sorry for the lack of posts lately. We're still gathering ourselves after a week in Austin @ SXSW. We did manage to make it into the studio to record our fourth podcast - the SXSW Edition. While the podcast is our shortest in length - we don't think there's any less rambling. Oh boy. You know the drill - Download. Stream. Share. As always - we apologize ahead of time. 1) Mystic - Joshua James 2) Most Of The [...]

![LOSE YOURSELF IN DANA FALCONBERRY’S DELICATE, EARTHY FOLK [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4840948_lg.jpg)
Since Dana Falconberry's highly personal, orchestral folk pop album Leelanau takes its name from a peninsula in Michigan, it's no surprise that the album's material comes principally from Falconberry's memories of growing up taking vacations in that same area. The memories, while distant, are both lush and subtle, pieced together for a sound as light and warm as summertime itself. The album, which Falconberry spent hours upon hours meticulously recording with friends in an old, dusty church, is drenched in earthy authenticity. Leelanau is a record in [...]

Back in the day when MuchMusic was a viable source for new music and not just a dumping ground for the same handful of pop videos and lots of not necessarily music related content, I was introduced to a lot of cool new stuff, particularly though shows like The Wedge and MuchWest. The latter program was likely where I first got turned on to the Mint Records roster and the likes of Cub and The Evaporators , while also being where I first saw Evaporators frontman Nardwuar the Human Serviette do his whole band/celebrity interview [...]

(photo: Live Letters ) Last Wednesday, I was invited to see Ivan & Alyosha, a self described "indie-rock, folk-pop, indie-pop" quintet from Seattle, Washington. Being that the majority of the new music I come across sits a little further from center than a band like Ivan & Alyosha, I hadn't heard of them until I received the invitation. They had a laundry list of accolades from a variety of reliable sources, and I liked the song in their newest video, so I decided to take my best friend [...]
Ah SXSW, simultaneously one of the most fun and exhausting weeks of the year for those lucky enough to attend. A whirlwind series of day parties, happy hours, panels, meetings, official showcases, "meetings" at the finest BBQ and taco joints, after parties, after after parties, and near constant sleep depravation. We. Cannot. Wait. ...

Dana Falconberry 's beguiling twee vocals instantly captivate as she hums her poetic lyrics with little more than a whisper. But Falconberry's distinctive vocals are matched by her delicate arrangements – the slender plucks of the mandolins, banjos and harps on her latest EP, "Leelanau," build soft instrumentals for her warm words to float over. While her previous releases were more minimalist, Leelanau expands her pallet without losing any of her trademark enchantment. See Dana live at The Deli's Hangover Hideout at J. Blacks on Wednesday March 13 at 6pm - more info about the event involving 25+ songwriters [...]

Previewing SXSW is such an odd task. It would take a year's worth of daily posts to cover just the great acts playing, and I think doing a mammoth playlist that contains every SXSW artist is a waste of time. So, today I'm keeping things clean and providing five bands that are can't miss this year, and then I'm tossing in five local acts for those of you that aren't based in Austin. Enjoy. See These 5 Bands At SXSW [...]
Dana Falconberry 's "Lake Charlevoix" comes to us from the Austin, TX-based artist's fine fall 2012 album Leelanau , an inspired collection of orchestral folk/pop that NPR's All Songs Considered described as "the musical equivalent of bounding through a poppy field, with fluttering little butterflies dancing in the air." Says Falconberry in a similar vein, "There is this general feeling of nostalgia, but the album is also about the triumphs of being a kid - a celebration of running on the beach or in the woods." One of our favorite [...]

Although Good Field released their self titled debut in early 2012, this month's re-release is notable as all the songs on the album have been remastered and put on glorious vinyl. To celebrate this occasion, the band is holding their vinyl release party in Austin this Friday at Holy Mountain (don't forget to enter our ticket giveaway ; a winner will be drawn the day of the show). They are also embarking on a brief US tour leading up to their official SXSW showcase. If you like what you hear, [...]

First off, props to Dana Falconberry for having a wicked last name. Who messes with someone whose lase name includes the word "Falcon". (I am assuming that is her real last name). A folk/orchestral pop artist out of Austin, Texas, it would only seem natural for Dana Falconberry to play SxSW. After all, if people are going to come to your city, eat your food, drink your booze and trash your streets, you should at least get to play a show. This little tune is a gentle folk tune that reminds me a lot of Au [...]

Austin, TX, folk singer Dana Falconberry’s Leelanau LP, which sees her backed gracefully by a six-piece band, is named after her childhood retreats to Michigan's Leelanau peninsula, imbuing the record with a soft-hearted woodsiness. "Please ... read more
