Jesper Skouboelling Who: D'Angelo What: Modern American soul singer born Michael Archer whose legend is as much based on his two released albums - 19952s Brown Sugar and 20002s Voodoo - as the now-mythical third, which has been rumoured and laboured over for the past 13 years and counting. Why: After many fits and starts, 2013 appears to be the year of D'Angelo's comeback. Album number three - James River - should be out this year [...]
Austin City Limits has always been the odd festival out of the Big Four. Although one of North America's biggest and best music festivals, its presence within the Music Capitol of the World has led to instant sell outs long before it was cool to instantly sell out. Festival organizers have consistently catered their lineups more to the Austin demographics, putting less emphasis on big name reunions or unique gets. Alt-rock, folk, and twang frequently top the bill, and this year is no exception with the presence of Wilco, The National, Kings of Leon, and Vampire Weekend. [...]

From the beginning, Bonnaroo SuperJams have been synonymous with exciting, unexpected one-off collaborations of music's top artists, with past festivals linking up the likes of Dr. John, Mike Gordon, Luther Dickinson and Stanton Moore (2003), and this year featuring Jim James, Zigaboo Modeliste, John Oates and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. In 2012, Questlove and The Roots took things one step further by facilitating the return of R&B artist / producer D'Angelo in one of his first stateside concerts in eleven years. In the third of four videos documenting the SuperJam, the collaborators perform [...]

The Child of Lov is proud to share "Fly" off of his forthcoming self-titled LP which will be released on May 6th via Double Six Records and on May 7th via Domino Records in North America. The Child of Lov sees songwriter/vocalist Cole Williams heading back to the future as both modern soul man and funk revivalist crafting thickly-layered psychedelic grooves with a hip-hop attitude. The album, which was recorded at Damon Albarn's studio 13 and features contributions from Damon Albarn , Thundercat, and DOOM, possesses a nostalgic reverence for early trailblazers like Little [...]

Back in the beginning of March, the Funk world was madness when D'Angelo and Questlove announced a pop-up show on March 4th at the Brooklyn Bowl. Riding on the tails of their successful Superjam performance at Bonnaroo last summer, which was also D'Angelo's first U.S performance in 12 years, the duo teamed up once again to deliver a heart-stopping set. Lucky doesn't even begin to describe those who were in attendance as they heard D'Angelo's simultaneously angelic and devilish vocals combined with the tighter than tight drumwork delivered by the producer of his [...]

D' Angelo's performances always come very few and thin. This should come to no surprise after he made his first live appearance in the U.S. in 12 years with his 2012 set at Bonnaroo. Executed by the Root's ?uestlove, the set is now serving the focal point behind a behind the scenes documentary that is available through Bonnaroo's Youtube channel. The documentary is directed by Danny Clinch and features performance footage, behind the scene's looks, and ?uestlove audio remixes. The first part of the four part documentary features a boisterous tribute to the The [...]

And in this new series hosted by Bonnaroo, Quest guides us through the makings of the SuperJam. The first episode is predominantly about his excitement to bring D'Angelo to the stage, which leads to some great footage of their cover of Prince's "My Summertime Thang".
