This man had a really troubled life, suffering from depressions & Insomnia which strongly reflects in the lyrics and his music. Although he failed to find a wide audience during his lifetime, Drake's work has gradually achieved wider notice and recognition. He now ranks among the most influential English singer-songwriters of the last 50 years. [...] Mr B's Sunday Chill Session - V is a post from: FAT BERRI'S | Electronic Music Blog

It's been a while since we've added to the playlist, so here are a couple more songs for you to chill out to. The first is a cracking remix of The Antlers by ZYNC. They've stripped it all the way down and turned it into a song that has hints of Four Tet about it (only half as long as one of his remixes!) There are no vocals on this one and it's got a breezy feel all the way through that makes it a good happy song. Here it is. The Antlers - [...]

By the time you read this, I will already be gone. The summation of all this planning, thought and effort is at hand. Freedom as it is defined by me, has arrived - other rather... departed. Imagine me on a bike somewhere on a narrow road. It's probably raining and cold. The greatest adventure of my entire life is now underway. I'm in Oregon today, which leaves me 47 states to go. My enemy just became everything cold and wet. I looked at the forecast a few moments ago for the next five days, and I wasn't pleased. Actually, [...]

2010 has slipped away and here we are in a new year. It's time for resolutions and promises that will be kept for a month or so, time for hope and optimism that the next 365-ish days will bring better things, time to wave goodbye to the last 365, whether fondly or with great relief. It would be fitting to do a "best of 2010" type of post here, maybe with a top ten list, but there are already so many of those out there. Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy won the hearts [...]
Throughout 2010, and every week for 50 weeks, IRC readers and visitors have determined the Top Ten Songs based on all of the songs that had been featured on the site the week before. As a result, the Top Ten Songs page has become one of the most popular indie songs 'charts' on the web, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

As the year and this decade winds down it's a new habit in my life to see who's passed on to the other side. Morbid I know but at the same time it gives me inspiration to enjoy interacting with my own family when I can and everyday extraordinary people. Someone once said to treat every moment and thing as it happens as a minor miracle. The musicians music people listed here either touched some aspect of music and if you take a moment to appreciate their achievements through to their demise. Their existence will have touched you too. Even [...]

How Grandaddy never became successful is beyond me. Great tunes; intelligent lyrics about love, life and the struggle between nature and technology; a charmingly unpretentious band who gave the distinct impression they were just a bunch of mates who got together to form a band whilst skateboarding, all wrapped up with a slightly shambolic air of second-hand guitars and analogue synths. They sounded just different enough to be unique without being too challenging. Yet the world wasn’t quite ready for their tales of dogs, AM radio stations, broken-down robots and office workers gone astray on activity day [...]

ED NOTE: Re-posting an old one, back from 2009. In my run up to 2010's incredible year of music, I dig up an earlier post of superlative 2009 tracks. What's that you say? Lame and campy? Bastardization of the perfect novel? Most definitely. Anna Karenina, music from 2009 Commentary on how I made this mix, Part 1 (if you scroll to the [...]

I noticed this sign at a store I go to almost every day. The cashier was a little nervous when I came in with a camera. I tried to explain, “I don’t know what I’m going to do with this. I just know I will do something. It’s found art.” Faruk first stared at me, and then backed out of the frame. He is always there. We have a ritual. First he refuses to give me change. Then, he tries to steal my keys. It’s a flirtation through bullet-proof glass, most of which is covered in warnings and disclaimers. [...]

I was all ready to do another post on the whole Kings of Leon Pigeongate thing, but after re-reading it, I decided not to because it'd be beating a dead horse. I'm hoping that KOL has taken a look at themselves and realized that there were at least a dozen options to explore before canceling the show. Will I keep listening to KOL? Sure. Although I wasn't there, I can relate to those disappointed fans... but in the end I still enjoy their music. Just because Mel Gibson has apparently gone off the deep end [...]
