On last year's "It's Not You, It's Us" EP, Daniel Ahearn & the Jones revealed the ability the capture a moment and crystallize emotions in a single verse. Ahearn and co-conspirator Mindy Jones deal in finely crafted Americana with harmonies pretty as a painting; their love-obsessed folk-pop is at once wry and open-hearted. The duo's new album "Sirens," made with producer Mocky (Feist, Jamie Lidell) and due this spring, promises some more explosive moments — Ahearn's old alt-country band Ill Lit could certainly rock out — so it'll be nice to one of the Eastside's finest songwriters turn [...]

Daniel Ahearn has one of those voices that commands attention — genteel but earnest, lyrical but lacking the extravagant affections that bog down many folk singers. In singer/multi-insrumentalist Mindy Jones, Ahearn has found the perfect foil for his frank meditations. And as Daniel Ahearn & the Jones , they make sweet songs that are reality checks in disguise. Well, maybe not even not even disguised very well. As Ahearn told us back in 2011 , he's the kind of writer who lives for that moment "of total truth," and you're liable to hear some of that on the [...]

Continuing with our one-night stand we had with Daniel Ahearn & The Jones a few weeks back, here's part dos of our conversation about their life as a band in Los Angeles. For this portion, we listen in on their discussion of the local scene and their place in it coming from the perspective of ones that have been around longer than a majority of the bands around town. We had to cut a ton of great footage and commentary out just to get it into something A.D.D. video watchers could sit through but you still should get [...]
We set up a coffee date with the sexy duo of Daniel Ahearn & The Jones last week in Echo Park but because Stories closed early we ended up chatting at the world famous Laundromat next door. So what was supposed to be a chance to get to first base ended up being a deep discussion about their music, the Los Angeles music scene, and basically how they're surviving in this economy as indie musicians
