A night in Hollywood to spin you around: ► The RSVP-only It's a School Night at Bardot is starting the new month off strong — Daniel Lanois & Rocco DeLuca , great at the Satellite a few weeks ago, headline, and L.A.'s Bleached will rock it too. Most intriguing, though, is U.K. newcomer Michael Kiwanuka , who's released two EPs on Communion Records (run by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett) and who is planning a U.S. full-length in the spring. Kiwanuka was to have opened for Adele before her vocal problems [...]

I'm losing my head, I'm losing my mind. "Jolie Louise" can be found on the album Acadie . http://www.daniellanois.com

Acadie is the debut album by record producer and singer-songwriter Daniel Lanois. It was largely written and recorded in the city of New Orleans. Lanois sings on it in both French and English, sometimes even on the same track. The album was originally released in 1989 on Opal Records. It was reissued in 2005 on ANTI-, with new cover art (but otherwise identical to the original.) Acadie was named the 20th greatest Canadian album of all time in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. Read more »
Eno and his Coat of Many Colors

Daniel Lanois rocks my world. Lanois — renowned for producing some of the best work of U2, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young and Bob Dylan — brought his Black Dub project to life on stage at The Opera House last night. Last in town to deliver his impressive sound installation at Nathan Phillips Square for Nuit Blanche , Lanois continues to impress with this ambitious project, which translates really well live. Lanois has recently taken this talented band on tour to both the Ottawa and Montreal jazz festivals. But this music's appeal [...]
There indeed were other albums that came out 20 years ago besides Nirvana's soon-to-be reissued Nevermind . One such record marked U2 's sea change - the seminal 1991 release of Achtung Baby. By enlisting Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno to produce, the band's sound incorporated electro, industrial, hip-hop, and all of a sudden we're. . . dancing to Bono. You can relive those moments, along with whatever moments you happen to cherish off of their 1993 release Zooropa , later this fall (via [...]

oh happy fucking monday! not sure where i got my hands on this little nugget, but its a promo that warner brothers and reprise released back in 92 or 93, i believe. it collects what were a bunch of tracks that werent commercially available at the time, but i am sure now are. so posting this one is like playing online casino games , its a crap shoot. anyway, this is what the folks that put it together had to say, at the time, about this "collectors" promo. "When you see it a few years from now, [...]
Last night a little after midnight, Austin City Limits, or ACL as the kids call it, dropped their 10th anniversary lineup for this year's festival. No real surprises as the major headliners were either already announced or revealed by the scratch off tickets, but still you have got Kanye and Arcade Fire in here as well as music legend Stevie Wonder, not a bad little lineup. There are also a ton of great mid-level bands in here, so check out the full lineup below. As of right now, all 3-day passes for this festival are sold out, [...]

The next date you'll need circled on you calendar is June 21, as Bon Iver will release their eagerly awaited sophomore album via Jagjaguwar. After recently revealing a handful of dates, yesterday the band announced a slew of additional summer dates [...]

DOWNLOAD: Black Dub - Last Time (live) (MP3) Black Dub It was the official Canadian music-industry consecration of Arcade Fire at this year's edition of the Juno Awards, with the Montreal alt-rockers nabbing four trophies, more than any other artist. Arcade Fire won album of the year for "The Suburbs", group of the year, songwriter of the year ( for "Ready to Start", "We Used To Wait", and "Sprawl II"), and alternative album (also for "The Suburbs"). The [...]

[Here we'll look at some things you probably passed up when you were a kid because you were too busy playing Star Wars with your friend who was actually a jerk… and who threw a tantrum when you schooled him in NHL '96. What a little bitch. There are roots in the ground that still nurture.] Time Out of Mind Bob Dylan Columbia, 1997 Produced by Daniel Lanois Words by Christopher Carosi [...]

The Unforgettable Fire is one of U22s finest albums. Produced by Daniel Lanois and released in 1984, the album was a stark contrast to 19832s politically charged War and boasted smash singles like "Pride (In the Name of Love)" and "Bad." Another standout song on the album is "A Sort of Homecoming," which has received [...]
