(REUTERS/Brian Snyder) K and I met at a local brewpub for lunch today, after dueling appointments with various pediatric specialists. We had nachos, beer, and watched the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Barak Obama. It was a moving experience. It is a particularly American experience, as well, and one of the great things about today's events was not that George W. Bush left office, but that the transition of power was smooth and peaceful. You can't say that of too many countries, unfortunately. In his [...]
When I started posting my 42 Favorite Finds of 2008 over at WNEW , I declined to say what I thought were the best records of the year. Instead I decided to write about my favorite listens of the year. That means anything from any year could be included thereby freeing myself myself from writing the gratuitous, overplayed, phone-it-in "Best Of" list. Then Rolling Stone released their list of Records Of The Year . Clearly, a bunch of caffeine-swilling, underpaid, cubicle-inhabiting , self-aggrandizing weenies sat around the Starbucks one day and [...]

Remember that one from Music Man (one of my favorite Broadway shows)? My wife is the theater director at the local high school; she's considering doing Music Man next fall so she can cast our 8-year old, Skyler, as Winthrip. (Eat his dust, Ronnie Howard.) They're doing Pippin in a few weeks in which Sky is playing Theo. He's gonna rock and I will be a proud papa. Did I mention that we had band practice out in the Buddha Barn again this past Monday? Have I mentioned that we still suck? [...]

You know how usually most albums are somewhat top heavy? Typically the first few tracks are the ones that stick with you the most, and as you get deeper into the album, especially at the end, it often feels like filler. When I first played Rare Child , the second album from Danielia Cotton , the first few songs struck me as good, but didn't really completely grab me. It wasn't until I got into the middle of the album that my ears really started perking up and paying total attention. There are [...]

danielia cotton doesn't mind a spot of yelling if that's what it's gonna take to make you move. nor is she at all a-feared of enlisting some classic, bluesy rock in the cause. probably because she knows it's just going to flat out work. danielia cotton - make you move danielia (pronounced "da-neel-ya") comes from new jersey but of course lives in n.y., where she learned how to wear killer boots. her first album is called little white town , which unfortunately does not feature "make you move;" that song [...]

Us Magazine now reports that Joan Jett is NOT sleeping with Carmen Electra. Wait...they actually don't go that far. They simply say they are not "a couple." I wonder if that's like Bill Clinton saying he "did not sleep with that woman"? I don't know who started this rumor, but anytime you've got Carmen Electra even remotely possibly bedding another woman we at least have to fantasize about consider the possibility. And, when that woman happens to be a rock star, we get to write about it! U2 is putting out a new "DVD Collectors [...]

It's already a new week? One thing that flew past me in the craziness of last week was a mention of the new Contrast Podcast that I contributed to, where a bunch of us bloggers get together to virtually DJ a radio show. The theme last week was " Who? " and I finally contributed a most excellent Pearl Jam track ("Who You Are"). I held out on the PJ for a while but hey, what do you expect? This upcoming week Tim will be putting together Contrast Podcast [...]
