Who: Danielson When: October 31st Where: Knitting Factory More Dates Thoughts: Before the posting of a new(old) single yesterday, it had been ages since we had last heard from Danielson! I believe it was last year's Seaport kick-off with Animal Collective (which I missed) was their last New York show though I could be wrong about that. Anyway, Danielson always put on a fantastic, color
(Editor's Note: Sorry about the tardiness of this post!) The Good: Danielson - "Animal In Every Corner (Version)"; So this is on an upcoming album of B-sides and outtakes and other stuff, and amazingly this doesn't sound like it should have been any of those! Instead this is just another solid Danielson song and it's been a while since we've heard one of those so I think we should all get excited

As always, I know almost nothing about Danielson, or The Danielson Family, or the supposedly subtle stream of hippy-Christian values that runs through out. All I know is that Secretly Canadian, a label I trust almost entirely, sent me over a copy of the new collection of this Danielson character's earliest works, Trying Hartz . And I will say this, I think Danielson is the type of artist that you really don't need to read in to a terrible amount. There's a constant feeling in the music business that albums need to be sold with a story, a hook, [...]

EAR FARM's Three for Free: three EF approved, free and legal MP3s posted whenever the mood strikes us. Today, more good stuff from the inbox! If you haven't heard already, Secretly Canadian Records is set to release Trying Hartz (First Fruits '94-'04) , a retrospective celebration of all things Daniel Smith (the man behind the family affair that is Danielson), on November 4th. "Animal In Every Corner" is a pretty awesome freebie from the forthcoming collection to tide you over until then. Elsewhere, Magic Arm, aka Marc Rigelsford, aka EF Band of the Week back [...]
September can be so depressing. Between the end of summer, the start of school, and the onset of cooler temperatures, the ninth month of the year isn't the most popular. But it's nothing music can't fix and in fact, when you think about, fall usually features some of the best new releases (see: In Rainbows , Graduation , and Magic in 2007). So in an effort to kick the new season off with a bang, how about a brand new edition of our Friday Mixtape? All we ask from you? Enjoy our mix of [...]
Secretly Canadian is planning to release Trying Hartz — Danielson retrospective — Nov. 4. The two-disc set is being culled from the Danielson, Danielson Famile and Br. Danielson material (essentially everything prior to Ships ). So if you hear people complaining about mysterious dying-cat and chalkboard-scratching noises when November rolls around, you can put their fears to rest. It's just Danielson. Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this. And not just because it'll be one more [...]

By the time they built up those Ships back in the spring of 2006, Daniel Smith's Danielson (with and without his Famile) had been making with the music for more than a decade. Two whole discs of favorite tracks from the pre- Ships era-- plus some previously unheard alternate versions, live cuts, and various unreleased material-- have been collected for a new anthology entitled Trying Hartz . In addition to 28 Danielson tunes, the set features Smith's personal thoughts [...]
"you know we always honor her birthday." said oj about nicole. yeah. really. cowsarejustfood is one. today. this time last year i dipped my gnarled toes in the water with this testpost. i've been timewasting here for a whole bloody year. so by means of 'celebration' i'm tucking into some red stripe (the indie kids lager beer of choice for some [...]

Photography, ironically called "the ---666--- FOOL II", by Vicky Man o' man, what a great weekend in Chicago! Even though we were only about 6 hours away from Columbus, it felt like (mentally) we were on the otherside of the planet. Work was the last thing on my mind! Which is a great feeling... I'll tell you what WAS on my mind though, vinyl. Holy crap, we bought a bunch this weekend. We hit 3 places, Dusty Grooves (to get our soul, funk & R&B [...]

The efforts of Clear Channel's programmers have probably helped you already get sick of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and that damned Don Henley holiday track, but there are quite a few seasonally appropriate songs worthy of your time out there. To help cut through the clutter we've asked Jon Solomon , whose 20th annual 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show on WPRB kicks off at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, to offer up some seasonal cheer in MP3 form. Today, he brings us seasonal tidings from Danielson: [...]

Saturday dawned bright and clear, with the prospect of a sunny day ahead for the Baby Growl's festival debut. The word was that the 'special guest' in the Big Top at 12:15 might be Gruff Rhys. We thought we might make it to the festival site in time for this, but with baby and all her related stuff to organise, it was never going to happen. In any case, there was no special guest. One of the things that you can't really do with a small baby and her baggage [...]
Well Saturday started with a fair bit of confusion. I was supposed to be interviewing Howe Gelb at 11am but that fell through (in a tremendously tedious and long-winded game of telephone tag) and has now been downgraded to an email interview and the promise that I can have another go the next time Howe [...]

DANIELSON FAMILE It's not everyday that a troupe of film stars clamber onto a Dublin stage, fully decked-out in matching medic's regalia. Whilst maybe not - yet! - of the same calibre as Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts, last year's A Family Movie marked the Danielson Family's induction into the rockumentary hall of fame. Charting the band's progress since their inception (the first songs were written in 1993 as part of frontman Daniel Smith's thesis project), the film is a thorough study of an intriguing group. [...]
Either the Iron Sheik is the greatest actor of our time or he has gone completely insane. Scour Youtube, you'd be hard pressed to find a clip of him where he's not either slapping someone in the mouth or screaming about who he's had in the camel clutch. Why this is at all relevant? I have no idea. Matt's Pick Danielson's last release, Ships , seemed to win a whole new group of fans over for the band...and not just people that hadn't heard of them before, but [...]
