A little over two years ago we published a feature called Sound Tracks that aimed to highlight some of the most memorable and musical scenes in modern cinematic history with the intention of demonstrating just how important musical scores and soundtracks are to any given film and scene-- some of the most revered scenes wouldn't be as powerful without the music that accompanied the action. We've been planning a follow-up to that feature, a sort of sequel (which will come in due time), but for this feature we took the general idea of Sound Tracks and applied [...]
Ahh...the sounds of Danny Elfman . The brain behind Oingo Boingo who also brought us the soundtracking for Pee Wee's Big Adventure , The Simpsons theme, Beetle Juice , Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , Edward Scissorhands , and more. Not that it has much competition other than your typical horror flicks, but I'd consider Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas a damn good movie to get you in the mood for Halloween, especially the Halloween Song from it. Here's the song for you to [...]

Halloween is always a fun night to be had, regardless of whatever age you happen to be. Though, as i'm typing this at around 2:30 am, i'm sort of befuddled as I had a couple (actually, around five or six) of trick or treaters come to my door. I normally don't buy candy until the actual day of Halloween, so I sorta felt terrible about telling these kiddies that I didn't have any candy. But who the hell goes trick or treating the day before Halloween? If I were a kid and my parents told me to the night before, [...]

the Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack is getting a bit of an update. Okay, maybe not exactly that. But all of the songs are being covered (save for the opening and closing theme, which are going to be re-recorded by Elfman himself). Personally, I'm only really excited for a couple of the songs. I'm particularly not excited for the Amy Lee cover of Sally's Song. I hate Amy Lee, always have. Evanescence is one of my LEAST favorite bands (I freaking hate it), and Sally's Song is by far my favorite from [...]

The band that would bring Danny Elfman his career in scoring movies began in the early seventies as a musical / theatrical group called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo . Under this guise, they lasted several years, even appearing on (and winning) an episode of The Gong Show . By the early eighties, much of the theatrical bits were gone, and the group had morphed into a new wave / ska band, with the shortened moniker Oingo Boingo . Throughout [...]

This post originally began as a collection of cheesy theme songs, but eventually grew into a mass of songs from the soundtracks of movies I love and adore. A good majority of them are 80s classics since I was born in '81, but there are some newer and older gems mixed in too. I had a lot of fun gathering them, since just hearing them brings back tons of good movie viewing memories (read as: makeouts). It also reminded me of how much I've always wanted the opportunity to compile a soundtrack for a movie. I have no idea how [...]

I considered not posting any kind of Halloween mix this year because of the simple fact that it's difficult to make it anymore unique from the previous year. There aren't too many songs with "Halloween" themes and the only other alternative is choosing whatever song I can come across that has some spooky manifestation in it's title. Most of these are from last year, but I thought about it and figured most wouldn't remember the previous mix anyways. I guess that's a nice thing for any musician to come up with a decent Halloween song, as [...]

Is there any holiday that you get more excited for than Halloween? Sure when you were a kid it was all about the gifts of Christmas, but now that we're all grownd up we usually spend more on Christmas then we reap. Easter is freakin' gay. Valentine's sucks balls even if you're in a relationship. I'm not a mother or a father. So I guess for me its between Thanksgiving and Halloween. Eating vs. Getting Dressed Up Like an Asshole. Hmmm, tough call really but I'll give a slight edge to getting dressed up like an asshole, because then you [...]
.....meh, I got nothing to say tonight, enjoy the tunage. New Order Everything's Gone Green (Cicada Remix) The first obligatory New Order single on The Lost Turntable for 2007. This was a b-side to 'Waiting For The Siren's Call'. Michael Damian Rock On (12'' Power Re-mix) Rock On (Extended Dance Mix) Michael Damian is one of three people I can think of that doubled as pop stars and soap opera actors in the 1980s. Rick Springfield [...]
So this is that band i was talking about the other day, Adrienne and i were fortunate enough to catch them over SXSW and were quite impressed. or was that just me? Check em out on myspace. Post War Years- this is what last FM had to say, there's no wiki or much info on their myspace. The Post War Years are an up and coming band from Royal Leamington Spa, who (according to their Myspace page) are Latin/Hard House/Jazz but they have an Alternative/Indie edge about [...]

Halloween: the only "holiday" where religious controversy and political beliefs don't get in the way of daily plans. Kids dress up in innocent costumes and eat candy, adults dress up in promisicuous costumes and party hard. Fun stuff, isn't it? Media also plays a big role in Halloween, as music and movies (such as Friday The 13th or Rocky Horror Picture Show) have defined the holiday as a cultural event of creepy movies that make you jump at night. We all know the classic Halloween tunes, the 'Monster Mash's and such that echo in the halls of every elementary school, [...]

With all the stress of looking for a new hosting provider behind me, I figured i'd post these little Halloween goodies that had been littered in my email. At first, I was only going to post these few songs I had but today ended up being extremely boring. So much in fact, that I decided to go ahead and make a Halloween mix to post here. I think Andy is making one as well, and his will probably be much more thought out and creative. So whether you're giving out candy (like me) on [...]

(MP3s: 36 of them beyond the jump) Peer Gynt (1867) by Henrik Ibsen marks the end of romantic nationalism in Norway. In 1874 Edvard Grieg was asked to compose music for the play (or rather, was given a lot of cash to ditch a less profitable project with Norwegian author Björnstierne Björnson). As Ibsen's play grew on him, he complained to his friend Frants Beyer; "It is an immensely difficult subject, and I've done something to the [...]
