The Monday Mixtape: For Sam & West

The Monday Mixtape: For Sam & West Some old tunes, some new tunes, all good tunes, most Mondays... While I normally just let the songs do the talking, this mix requires a special shout-out. My longtime friend, Sam, and her newborn son, West, requested a specially-curated Monday Mixtape. It's hard enough to make a playlist for a baby--I'm inclinded to just post this --but to impress an infant and his hip mom? Even more difficult. Hopefully these twelve songs will hit that sweet spot and suffice. You can't go wrong with Danzig, right? Right-Click + Save Link [...]

Set for June 7-10th in Manchester, TN, this year's festival already promised Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, The Beach Boys, Bon Iver, The Shins, Feist, Black Star, and Ben Folds Five, among others. Now joining them are Puscifer, Santigold, The Temper Trap, fun., and The Cave Singers. Plus, Glen Danzig will deliver a "Legacy" set, which consists of music from Danzig, The Misfits, and Samhain. Good thing it won't be chilly in Manchester . Even more additions are coming soon , including a [...]

Danzig, Puscifer, Santigold, Temper Trap, Fun. added to Bonnaroo 2012 The Cave Singers too.

GLENN DANZIG IS NOW AN INTERNET MEME

I actually think these are way funnier than the Dave Mustaine meme that started making the rounds last month. But the fact that there isn't a single one about Danzig's bricks is, frankly, a crime. So I'm going to copy echo Vince's challenge from the aforementioned Mustaine meme and ask MetalSucks readers to go here, [...]

Bonnaroo 2012 Roo-mors: Fake lineup poster incites the masses!

February is always an exciting time of year to plan ahead for music festival season and this week has been a busy one around these parts. Everyone else is getting busy, too; it looks like the Bonnaroo website was just relaunched with a new set of 2012 graphics and a promise of an artist announcement [...]

EP: Metallica – Beyond Magnetic

Metallica Beyond Magnetic Vertigo Records 30 January 2012 by Tom Doyle If we follow the chronology of that famous T-shirt , we appear to currently be in the "death" phase of Metallica's career. I recently took to these very pages to explain why Lulu was not the worst album of 2011 but [...]

Video Roundup: Lucky Thirteen! Today's your lucky day! Although Friday the 13th is known to be a day of unfortunate accidents, faux pas, and all around unhappy occurrences that we chalk up to "bad luck," as any gambler knows, luck can turn on a dime. Gathered here in this video roundup are songs that we hope will change your luck today. So have a happy day, everyone, and remember, 13th or otherwise, it's still Friday! The Bailey Hounds - Along the Gallows

The Bailey Hounds - Along the Gallows I have a soft side, too. Catch me at the right time and I might even have a tear building up in one eye. I'm not just about those huge fuzzy riffs or deafening bass and drums. Sometimes I just wanna relax and forget about all my troubles - to drift away quietly and comfortably while acoustic guitars and a soothing voice tell me everything's gonna be okay. Don't you? Lately when I want that part of my brain tickled, I've been reaching for Along the Gallows , the debut full-length album by The Bailey Hounds [...]

Is this the most ridiculous metal Christmas song of all time?

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Metal Version)
In short: Yes, yes it is. We're not entirely sure why Dez Fafara (DevilDriver, Coal Chamber), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (Prong, Rob Zombie, Danzig, Ozzy Osbourne), and John Tempesta (White Zombie, Testament, The Cult) decided it would be a good idea to team up and cover 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' (for the Metal Christmas album, We Wish You A Merry Xmas and a Headbanging New Year ). Neither are we quite sure whether or not the beyond OTT nature of the result in any way justifies the idea's inherent stupidity. [...]

Video: Metallica perform with Glenn Danzig

Video: Metallica perform with Glenn Danzig Metallica recently celebrated their 30th anniversary with some special friends.

DAVE MUSTAINE, OZZY, DANZIG Join METALLICA Onstage For Final Nights of 30th Anniversary Celebration

Metallica w/ Glenn Danzig - Last Caress/Green Hell (Live in San Francisco, December 9th, 2011)
Metallica certainly saved the best for last. All last week, the band took over The Filmore in San Francisco for a series of intimate shows to celebrate their 30 years as a band. They really loaded the final two shows with the big guns. On Friday, they brought out Danzig, Halford and Jerry Cantrell. On ...

Twist of Cinema: The Videos of Danzig

Twist of Cinema: The Videos of Danzig In 1916, psychologist Hugo Münsterberg published the first work of film theory, The Photoplay: A Psychological Study . Münsterberg claims film and theater are distinctly separate because moving pictures are freed from the constraints of space, time, and causality. This isolation from the practical world provides a completely different psychic experience through "the perfect unity of plot and pictorial experience". As the emerging art form developed in the 1920s, French artists sought to create films that employed only uniquely cinematic techniques without any other influences. This movement, later dubbed Cinema Pur or "Pure Cinema", sought to free film from [...]

Album Review: MonstrO S/T

Atlanta’s MonstrO brings together a mesmerizing work of art in their self-titled debut. Composed of ex-members of Bloodsimple, Danzig and Torche, Kyle Sanders, Bevan Davies, Juan Montoya and Charlie Suarez creates a sound that reminds one of 70s hard rock. But that’s not all. By listening to the album, one can hear that this album [...]

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION: Liz Ortega (1992-1996)

Voodoo Glow Skulls - Drunk Tank

FROM THE DESK OF SLAYER

Ever wonder what Slayer's rider looks like? Well, now we have the answers: The Most Metal Metal Band of All Time apparently loves Gogurt, Bowflex, Hogan's Heroes, hand sanitizer, and hand satanizer. And the craziest part about this document is that it's apparently 100% real - Transmission Entertainment is the company that puts on FunFunFun [...]

Danzig Versus Slayer: Who Boasts the Bigger Name

Slayer - World Painted Blood (Jimmy Kimmel Live 2010) [HQ]
Glenn Danzig?s recent comments and alleged behavior at Fun Fun Fun Fest provoked much talk among the heavy metal community. Mainstream publications such as Rolling Stone brought this conversation to a much larger audience. Besides trying to instigate a riot, Danzig bemoaned playing the Black Stage. He said he is as big as Slayer, so he should be on... Read More/Discuss on Metal Underground.com

Daily Diversion – Norman Toronto at the Double Door

Daily Diversion – Norman Toronto at the Double Door Norman Toronto Three think-sunny-thoughts reasons to get out of the house and wander over to the Double Door tonight... 1. The Albany Park quintet Norman Toronto and His Band easily fit within Chicago’s vast and exciting psychedelic rock scene with its penchant for low-rumbling, swirling rhythms and sharp guitar solos. The glue that holds these ragamuffins together is Norman Toronto himself. The frontman’s rich baritone triggers thoughts to other great dramatic vocalists such as Morrissey and Danzig. The band’s album Rock and Roll [...]
