Here's a mix of my favorite new-to-me mp3s I downloadead from various blogs in the last month. I must say I didn't do so well keeping up with the blogs this month. The Art Garfunkel track came from one of Aquarium Drunkard's L.A. Burnout mixes ; the two 1960s Asian girl groups came from the ever-dependable Cargo Culte , and the rest came from miscellaneous corners of the web. For the record this mix is intended to be listened to in order. Stray thoughts: I've never sought out an Art Garfunkel record; perhaps I should? [...]
This week The Cargo Culte is featured on the "Anatomy of a Blogger" program over at BreakThru Radio. Listen and laugh as theallseeingi stutters, stumbles, rants and rambles through a hard nosed interview…weep with joy at the delivery of another sublime playlist…. 00:00 Intro 01:21 Interview with Isreal part 1 04:29 Mighty Mighty - The [...]

Are you a fan of Indonesia in the 1960s? What about Dick Dale -infused tropical garage-pop? And all-girl groups? Then Dara Puspita is the band for you!* The obscure, ultra-hard-to-track-down, pop band has been around since, well, the 60s, but their material had been near-impossible to find until Sublime Frequency released Dara Puspita 1966-1968 -- a 26-track-long anthology of psych jams -- earlier this year. Whether its this summer or the next time you find yourself at Typhoon Lagoon , Dara Puspita is essential [...]

Sublime Frequencies has unearthed another gem, this time in the form of an 60s Indonesian all-girl flower power band, Dara Puspita. 1966-1968 is a 26 song compilation of singalong garage rock hits with Indonesian lyrics. Amazing music if you're into the new lo-fi garage rock revival by Dum Dum Girls, Frankie Rose, Vivian Girls et al. Beware though, highly addictive! Indonesia had been ruled since its independence from the Dutch by Sukarno, a freedom fighter turned dictator who thought rock'n'roll was an expression of Western decadence, famously describing the music of [...]

Dara Puspita ~ "To Love Somebody" ( mp3 via gvsb ) I saw this on gvsb today, and totally dig it (and it's a Bee Gees Cover...). I could easily chill out on the beach listening to this while at the same time I can hear it in a Quentin Tarantino Movie while some form of ultra-violence is happening on the screen. Dara Puspita was an all girl group from Indonesia in the 1960's. From this [...]
We first discovered the amazing tropical garage-psych-pop of 1960s Indonesian girl-group Dara Puspita last summer on a tip from Brian Weitz, and immediately tracked down everything we could find from the group, which wasn't a whole lot. The incomparable Sublime Frequencies has just made things a lot easier by compiling 26 tracks(!) from four of the group's impossible to find seminal records --... click through for more...

Aquarium Drunkard has created a mix for this summer which really covers a wide range. Check it out/download it here! Tracklist after the jump. When Animal Collective was in town last week, Geologist suggested that based on our over-posting of Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls , and the like, we may be into the fuzzy garage pop from relatively obscure '60s Indonesian girl-group Dara Puspita . I tracked down --and have subsequently been enjoying -- their exceedingly charming 1967 album A Go Go , which is definitely worth a listen if you can find it (the original LP is apparently next to impossible to find, and it isn't cheap ). Check the sweet [...]
