Twin Cities ensemble Dark Dark Dark is really growing on me, and I'm still kicking myself for missing their last hometown show, especially after getting my mitts on this Sezio -produced performance of Daydreaming from Habitat House in San Diego. For the love of dog, I highly recommend picking up their newest release, Wild Go , and getting yer butt out to see them next time they roll through your town. Oh, the unspeakable things. MP3: Dark Dark Dark - Daydreaming Dark Dark Dark's latest, Wild Go, is available here: posted by rikki.

2010 was a dull year for discovering new bands; caught between over hype and under hype, the ripe atmosphere for discovery is quickly diminishing. The Cults signed to Columbia Records, Tennis played their first New York show at the large capacity Terminal 5, Blackberry got maximum coverage out of a Tune Yards song, Best Coast and Wavves annoyed the half of us with their money-friendly philosophy on selling out. So I stuck to, for the most part, old favorites who made great new releases. As far as releases go, that Future Islands put out their first proper full length, and [...]

2010 Top Twenty from Craig 1. Shadow Shadow Shade – S/T: Out of nowhere a sonic tour de force from the L.A. band previously known as Afternoons . The album is packed with operatic indie rock tunes. It’s clear that these are seasoned musicians, but the album returns to a common theme among nascent song writers – ruminations on young love/lust and the misunderstandings that surround it. This album immediately grabs you. The opening track Is This a Tempest [...]

This year in music was possibly one of my favorite in a very long time... I have been thinking long and hard on exactly why this is. As I went back through 2010 I noticed that my favorite albums were some of my best friends throughout the year. I could relate to them. I listened to them when I needed a shoulder to cry on, when I needed something to calm my soul or even to just hang out and enjoy their company. This group of albums below has been a major part of my life this year. I enjoy [...]
Flood Tide Kickstarter Video from flood tide on Vimeo . Last night we went to the screening of the film Flood Tide: Remixed scored by a live band called Dark Dark Dark . The Minneapolis-based band was also featured in the film that tells the story of four musicians who craft extraordinary boats out of whatever junk they can find and set out for open water. We were lucky enough to catch them during their first of two performances at MCASD and were completely blown away by the combination of live music played to a gorgeously [...]

Official | Purchase CD / VINYL / MP3 I have somehow neglected to tell you about Dark Dark Dark, a band I loved from the very first listen on Their Bated Breath . Yes, they are dark but there are wonderfully uplifting moments of beauty intertwined in their music. They are described as a chamber-folk sextet, and [...]
Listen to " Contrabanda " from DeVotchKa's forthcoming record, 100 Lovers (March 1, Anti- ) Daytrotter has a session with Madison's Icarus Himself . I've been obsessed with Clean Hands , who just released the four song Undone EP as a name-your-price download . Mogwai releases a video for "How to Be a Werewolf" (in Thirty Century Man). Mogwai's upcoming album, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will , arrives 1/18/2011 on [...]

Playing as a four piece the effortlessly charming Minneapolis based Dark Dark Dark take to the stage at The Lexington for their first ever London show. Having released their debut album Snow Magic nearly two years ago, the band’s chamber folk infused sophomore album Wild Go and their EP Bright Bright Bright make up the focus of tonight’s performance. Nona Marie Invie’s vocals coo softly against the dim red glow of the stage lights as you can just about see her breath travel through the icy air. Brooding, lonely and [...]

A few days ago when I asked a friend [ click for his website] for new music I should not miss out on, he recommended me Dark Dark Dark. This Minneapolis based chamber-folk sextet began in 2006 as a collaboration between multi-instrumentalists and singers Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount. These two inspired songwriters bring together disparate influences – including minimalism, New Orleans jazz, Americana, Eastern European folk, and pop – creating something altogether singular and absolutely epic. This diversity is their greatest strength. They use contrast - in texture, tone, and imagery [...]

Taken from October’s chamber folk infused sophomore album Wild Go , Dark Dark Dark ’s Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount have released a brand new video for ‘Daydreaming’, directed by band member Jonathan Kaiser. Shot through super 8 film, the sweeping piano and haunting vocals are accompanied by distinctly vintage panoramic views of billowing clouds, highways and a brightly dressed marching band. Dark Dark Dark will be kicking off their European tour in Newcastle tomorrow, see below for a full list of dates. Click here to view the embedded [...]

I was kind of surprised at how blown away I was by Weekend last Saturday at the Vera Project even with technical difficulties (a blown fuse in the guitar amp) near the end of their set. The San Francisco band's Slumberland debut hit the streets this week and they were in town supporting fellow label mates the Pains of Being Pure At Heart . There's something about their waves of cacophonous noise that drill into a sweet spot in my brain. They have this uncanny ability to bury the melodies of their songs [...]

It doesn’t matter if you’re French Vanilla or a Deathcore Party Shank Freak you want to Double Dip we can tell. Every day the king of (s)cream and the hard rock candy that pops on the top of your cone Mr. Mike Kniazeff will bring you a double dose of whatever is tantalizing his taste buds. Be prepared for a dynamic duo of Beach Running Tapedeck Doowaps or the final 2 coffin nails in your after hours assault. Divorced as many times as married Kniazeff has [...]

If you've ever been to the Hideout you know that the venue has rightfully earned it's name. Squeezed in the far back nook of Wabansia just off Elston this place is not only a Chicago gem, but a Chicago institute. I arrived shortly after 9pm to a line just outside the door. I nabbed a pbr tall boy ($3) and squeezed into the back to wait for the first band, Cross Record to play. The headliner tonight, Dark Dark Dark a band from Minneapolis in support of their second EP, Wild Go [...]
