There was a generous amount of mutual admiration on display Friday night at the sold-out show.

As you may know by my last post , I am a fan of "hoots and hollers". You'll find those in spades with the new band Dark Dark Dark on their debut album The Snow Magic , but not in the way you might imagine. As their name suggests, Dark Dark Dark's sound is that of old-time funerals and out of the way hole-in-the-walls where people might gather and drink away their pain. Mournful cries come from both singers, Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount, accompanied by accordion, banjo, strings and other members they picked up [...]

A list of the best albums of the decade as compiled by Marshall LaCount of Dark Dark Dark.

This song from Alberta Cross's debut full-length Broken Side of Time has turned out to be a favorite of mine, with its spooky instrumentation and Petter Ericson Stakee's ghostly hoots and wolfy howls. This is a pretty decent album too-a good way to use up your eMusic downloads. After releasing one of my favorite albums of the year, Eskimo Snow , a few weeks back, Oakland band Why? came to town Wednesday night to play what was one of the best shows I have seen this year at the Triple Rock Social Club.
