Christmas is nothing without the cheese. As Christmas only officially begins when the Coke Cola adverts start airing and the mince pies are finally served, then the festivities at this end of the pond are more than active. Lets thank God there is always LIGHTS DC to do away with those hole-in-the-middle and smelly slices. Quintessential synths are enclosed from the delight that always makes his mother & father proud: Mr. LIGHTS DC . LIGHTS DC – Calypso DARK ROOM NOTES - Elm (LIGHTS Tech Noir Mix) [...]
A surprisingly engaging album from the Irish synth-pop trio. Recently, when electronic music is mentioned, people's minds go to the attempted lifeless party anthems of Steve Aoki and not to the dark seduction of New Order. Whenever I see the electronic tag, I always fear the former and hope for the latter. With their self-titled full-length Dark Room Notes have earned my gratitude for being one of the first to fall in line with the latter. All throughout Dark Room Notes there's a familiar...
Two years on from their Choice Prize nominated album We Love You Dark Matter , Dark Room Notes are back with their self-titled second album. Dark Room Notes is a short affair with only eight tracks but it has a clean, polished and restrained sound than their previous release. Their drummer Darragh Shanaghan departed the band in April 2010 and was not replaced, but instead of impeding the band's progress it has brought on a cleaner deeper electro sound. The opening track ‘Wallop Waves’ is a statement of intent, a clear [...]
Dublin trio Dark Room Notes had a pretty successful time of it in 2010 with the release of debut album We Love You Dark Matter. They have a self-titled follow-up prepped and ready to go on April 9 on BBE, and above is our first taste of it. 'Baby Don't [Read more]
Codes, And So I Watch You From Afar, Dark Room Notes and Le Galaxie are all playing at this years First Fortnight gig in the Button Factory on January 15. The event aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and the prejudices that surround them. Daragh Anderson from the Codes described how: A gig like this is great, as not only does music bring people together, it also clearly shows that mental health problems aren’t taboo, and that simply by being open and talking about it, we can help fight the [...]

I hereby present you with three more artists to devote some time to over the weekend: Dark Room Notes For those who like: Metric The Irish band rocked CMW with their keyboard-infused indie rock sound and head-bopping tunes. Dark Room Notes' Myspace The Dirty Tees For those who like: Woodhands, Holy Fuck From just down the 401 in London, ON, this electronic duo is sure to get the dancefloor
Well my original intention for Thursday at CMF was to check out Sally Seltmann, Dan Mangan, and Timber Timbre at the Arts & Crafts showcase, but I couldn't get in with my wristband even an hour before show time because of the advance tickets. This brings me to a pet peeve of mine: shows with advance ticket sales shouldn't be part of a festival like this. It should be wristbands or cover at the

6/1 shot Adrian Crowley stole the Choice Music Award headlines on an emotional night at Vicar Street, securing the vote of assembled media experts in the final two minutes of deliberations. Crowley’s fifth album Season Of Sparks won the mellow Galway star a pot of 10,000 Euro and the title ‘Irish album of the year 2009’, an accolade he accepted in a state of genuine shock at the end of a night crammed full of Ireland’s top talent. CODES opened proceedings, demonstrating once again the extent to which their energetic live show surpasses the choirboy-style vocals [...]
Last night saw some excellent live performances from many of the nominees for the Choice Music Prize 2009 (don't worry, you are looking at the ceremony held in 2010, it's just for the best Irish album of 2009), but by far the best were Dark Room Notes and And So I Watch You From Afar. Both bands are on their debut albums, so who knows what the future may hold awards-wise. CODES opened the night strongly, before Julie Feeney toned it down a notch. Feeney had been the darkhorse when nominees were announced, but crept up to become [...]

Now in its fifth year, the Choice Music Prize for 2010 will be announced in Vicar Street next Wednesday the 3rd of March from 7.30pm sharp. The live event runs in tandem with the judging process which takes place in a locked room nearby where 12 media guys and gals will be trying to decide the best Irish album of the year for 2009. While that is happening, the bands nominated will be playing short live sets before the announcement. Out of the 10 nominated acts the following will be performing: And So I Watch [...]

We recently heard about fledgling band Dark Room Notes by our friends at BBE Music , and their smooth electro-rock sunk its hooks into us after repeated listening. Their debut album "We Love Your Dark Matter" was recorded in London in a mere 14 days, and should be dropping very soon. This single, Love Like Nicotine, even got the attention of the legendary Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins) who remixed a B-Side of the single, available right here . If you dig this track, consider picking up the 3-pack single. Here's some detailed info about the group [...]

The one real benefit of my work is that I don't to see anything on the web until about 4pm. By the time I check the emails, tweets and facebook updates I'm usually so late to all the juicy debates it's hardly worth making a comment! I do think the Choice Music Awards is a worthwhile addition to our music world. Not only is it worthwhile to the bands, record labels and album sales but also for the debates, discussions and degrading remarks which result! See On The Record! [...]
