Bringing some delicious chaos to your Thursday morning, today's Daily Dose is from Nashville, TN band Darla Farmer. "Darla Farmer arose from the kind of disenchantment one can only experience when living in the musical mold known as Nashville. This septet is a rousing douse of musical Discordia, who makes it their goal to sonically please, displease, and please again. Inspired by Tom Waits, The Blood Brothers, Man Man and other musical outfits alike, their arrangements include guitar, bass, drums and vocals, topped [...]

Daral Farmer is the kind of band that could supplied the soundtrack for the Mad Hatter Tea Party. The Nashville septet are all over the place, unpredictable, evasive and catchy. They are offering Live @ The Mercy Lounge as a free download. The bulk of the material was released on the 2008 album Rewiring The Electric Forest . MP3: Darla Farmer - Tommy Bones Download the full album. Live dates: 09/11 Nashville, TN @ Cannery Ballroom (Rabbit [...]

Who ever said nothing in this world is free?

A short time ago, Darla Farmer joined forces with Magic Hat Brewing Company and Vancar.tv to put on a full-blown theatrical music show. Initially only viewable to the drunken crowd in attendance, Vancar.tv released the live HD footage of the show in all its glory. Now the band is releasing the recording of the Magic Hat Brewing Company show, appropriately titled "Live @ Mercy Lounge." Premiered and featured on AOL's Spinner.com , the album is a 13 track trip through the madness that is Darla Farmer, [...]

Photos by Sarahana and Sahara A few interesting things happened at our first show in Crown Heights, which took place at the backyard of Homage Burger & Bar. After Darla Farmer were done playing, it started to get dark, and we realized very quickly that Homage doesn't really have any lighting in their backyard. So we ran to my apartment a few blocks away to grab my desk lamp, which ended up working really well when turned upwards from the floor. [...]

Hooves on the Turf are hosting a free all-ages Memorial Day show in Homage Burger & Bar's backyard. The show starts at 6PM and Homage is located at Franklin & Park (two short blocks from the Franklin Avenue 2/3/4/5 stop). Playing the show are Quiet [...]

Quiet Hooves , a gang of lovable hooligans from Athens, Georgia, was my favorite discovery at this year's SXSW. Whether it was playing a hill top at 2AM or rocking out at the back of a thrift store, it seemed like they were always the ones up to most interesting things. They're currently touring with Bird Names , an experimental pop outfit from Chicago, and both are stopping in New York for a few dates. Naturally, we jumped on the chance to host a show for them, and it's gonna be on May 25th; in Crown Heights no less [...]

CARNIVAL ROCK from NASHVILLE: Named after a local bank teller, Nashville's Darla Farmer have a totally vibrant outlook and are seemingly in constant motion. With elements from the four corners and some pretty cool instrumentation - the band's debut release, "Rewiring The Electric Forest," (released this week on Paper Garden ) deserves your attention and further exploration from this music blogger! DARLA FARMER [...]
Rewiring the Electric Forest is the forthcoming album from 7-piece indie band Darla Farmer (out February 17th). The music has a carnival atmosphere, combining the gypsy-punk style of Gogol Bordello with the theatrical flair of Dresden Dolls. The record kicks off with the Gypsy violin party rocker "The Quotient". Trumpets and horns also blare throughout the album, but with particular aplomb on "

Playfully drawing their name from that of a simple Nashville bank teller, Darla Farmer is an eccentric 7-piece carnival-rock band that manages to gracefully shatter genre borders in ways that even the most critical of hipsters can't pigeonhole. Drawing from influences as diverse as Cursive, Blood Brothers, Tom Waits, and the greatest of high school marching bands and small town orchestras, Darla Farmer creates an entirely distinctive, yet universally appealing sound. Darla Farmer recorded their new album "Rewiring the Electric Forest" in Omaha, NE at Mike Mogis' studio and quickly [...]
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of jammy, horn-y (horny?), haywire pop--or "carnival rock" as Welikeit.indie puts it--but a hardworking Nashville band getting national press is certainly notable. DF's ... Continue reading "Darla Farmer on All Songs Considered" >
