Today Barry-Sean and I head off, pop up tents in tow, to the marvellous End of the Road festival in lovely Dorset. Once again sold out, last year's inaugural trip turned into the best festival visit we've ever had, and we're looking forward to more of the same over the next few days. Even the weather forecast is good! Once again we have a huge number of superb bands scheduled to play and to follow our free Truck Festival Mix (RiP) and our Wilderness Festival Mix , here's the third and final instalment - [...]

Five years ago on this date, Grant McLennan died in his sleep from a heart attack at the age of just 48. Along with Robert Forster, he shared songwriting and vocal duties in the brilliant but unappreciated Australian band The Go-Betweens. I've always put the pair up there with popular music's most celebrated writing partnership: [...]
SHELLEY SHORT, DARREN HANLON, AND CHARLIE WAHDAMS ON SATURDAY MAY 7TH AT LOT 1 CAFE, 1533 WEST SUNSET BOULEVARD, LOS ANGELES. 9:00PM/ $5/ 18+

Pinball wizard and songwriter extraordinaire Darren Hanlon is coming back to Kentucky on his latest tour. If you have been a follower of us for a while (by all means you should be!) then you know how much adoration we have for Darren and his music. Not only is Darren quite the witty lyricist, but he has an arsenal of stories to bring a smile to your day. He has played alongside the likes of Billy Bragg, The Magnetic Fields, and The Lucksmiths amongst many others, and now you can welcome him back to our great state. Show info below, [...]

Not going to SXSW is something I kick myself for pretty much every year and generally I'm filled with jealousy when I read the countless reviews of it across the blogworld. These negative feelings however, always subside when I get to discover a number of amazing bands / artists that played the festival from the ones lucky enough to attend. My favourite for today is Australian folk singer, Darren Hanlon . Now if you're reading this from Australia, you're probably rolling your eyes as I understand he has recently released his fifth solo album, 'I Will Love [...]
With over 2000 musical acts performing to five times that many people, SXSW is well-known for providing the showcase many hopeful bands need. Even if you were there in Austin, it’s impossible to see everything you want to at a festival that’s consistently packed to the gills with artists and fans. So The Wounded Jukebox [...]

top of the evening. the last 72 hours have been kinda hell in the ol' van dyke home. i'll spare ya the gory details, but lets just say that puking, massive shits and body aches have hit all 4 us. fun times, fun times indeed. i found a copy of this very cool comp that was once included in the uk mag, comes with a smile . it seems as if they did it monthly, and all the comps seem to have been of pretty high quality. judging by their site, it may seem like they are down for [...]

2010 was quite a year. It saw graduations, festivals, a move from Athens to Barcelona, the discovery of a new city, a slight, um, slowing down of our blog activity, a World Cup, many flights (17 for me), and a lot of great music. So, without further ado, we present to you: So, how did we compile this rather fantastic list, you ask? Easy, we consulted our trusty last.fm profiles (see the bottom of this page for our individual profiles). We then each chose our top 25 and [...]

People, my January is going to be batshit crazy insane. It's the best kind of batshit, though, like the guano that they make really high quality stuff out of. You know what I'm talking about? Like they make perfume and car wax and Taco Bell meat out of it. That shit. Point being that, between January being a sparse month for music and said batshit insanity, Fine Tune Friday is likely to have a few weeks off here. So to tide you over, I've gone through my library and mushed together some songs from 2010 that were candidates [...]
It's a nearly impossible task: to sort, listen to (rinse. repeat), pass or fail tracks, write up reviews, and publish all of the music that is piled up in our email boxes, via the submission forms, and CDs and vinyls. The end of the year is fast approaching, but we've still got 2010 music that [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
There are plenty of musicians that use the luck of being born with a celebrity surname to speed up their own career, but not Laura Imbruglia. The younger sister of pop queen Natalie has spent most of her career trying to forge it in the Australian music scene without the merits of a famous moniker, but admits juggling the Imbruglia tag with a burgeoning punk rock career has not been easy.

Darren Hanlon, "Scenes From A Separation" (2010) find it on I Will Love You At All I first heard Darren Hanlon around 2001, after a comparison of him to the Lucksmiths led to an immediate purchase of his first album. I fell in love with the song "Hiccups" immediately, but lost track of his career until I was reminded of him by a review in Pitchfork a little while ago. His new album I Will Love You At All is exactly what I loved [...]
