Algiers is William K. J. Anderson and John W. Goodwin. The former once played bass and sang in much-missed Northern indie-pop types Dartz!, and the latter was the drummer for...erm...much-missed Northern indie-pop types The Maple State. Luckily, after a chance meeting at Sheffield University, the pair have combined their already considerable powers (with Anderson switching to guitar) and formed Algiers, to create some damn fine...ah...Northern indie-pop. In all seriousness, though, the twosome's debut EP Four Priests is out on Monday, and to mark the occasion, here's the video to the track [...]

"DARTZ were a Math rock group from Middlesbrough...." begins the obituary on DARTZ's (old?) website , before proceeding to explain what DARTZ, Middlesbrough and math rock are all about. I won't bother regurgitating the information - mainly because they have, with what appears to be judicious copy and pasting of Wikipedia. What I will say though is that DARTZ were good, and at times great. See brilliant singles 'Once, Twice, Again!' and St. Petersburg' for evidence. I sadly missed their final gig in Kingston [...]

Gig Of The Week: Mogwai, Fuck Buttons & Errors A stellar post-rock lineup this Friday at Hammersmith's venerable Apollo. Though The Hawk Is Howling is a little hard work Mogwai still have a live reputation that is untarnished. If they needed any encouragement to be on top form, there's the potential for an upstaging from both bands. Bristol's Fuck Buttons have produced a fantastic record in Street Horrrsing , and are a live draw on their own. Mogwai's Glaswegian labelmates Errors complete the bill, and with tracks [...]

SEPTEMBER: A Summary words: Jamie Milton Whilst now may not be the best of times to be telling you to splash out your savings on a month's worth of records, I may as well continue to do so. To those panicking through the financial crisis with gritted teeth at the Halifax phone line being busy, here's something to lighten up your day, your week, your future. September might not have been quite as perfect as we were expecting, but if you were one of those people who years ago asked [...]

Well, I feel a little more connected now. I've been formally accepted by the wonderful Hype Machine, and may actually have an audience beyond the three people who may or may not be interested in my scribblings (love you guys!). Here's a lovely, and topically named, piece of indie-art-punk. Dartz! - Network! Network! Network!
The brilliant Dartz (the artists formerly known as DARTZ! ) have made a track free to download from their label's myspace page. The End, Moving On is going to be track number 8 on their forthcoming 'mini-album', The Sad History of the Village of Alnerique. It will be their second album, following on from thrilling debut This Is My Ship . The first album was one of my favourite albums of 2007, a stunningly well put together and utterly brilliant record that brought the Teeside trio a barrage of [...]
I hate winter. and snow. And cold and ice and freezing. That's the reason, why I'm sitting huddled next to my heater and refuse to put one foot out the door. The other reason is that I'm too tired to go out, so I'll post a mix. Haven't done a mix in at least two weeks. It's about time!!! The mix contains some electro, some indie and some rest, that I've been listening to this week. Sorry for

47 - SALLY SHAPIRO - Disco Romance I never thought that Paper Bag Records would end up distributing Disco-pop artist Sally Shapiro....then again I didn`t think Disco Romance would be in my top 50....we have Pitchfork to thank for this one 46 - DARTZ! - This Is My Ship I found Dartz! threw MySpace....."This is my ship" is a tricky record...I don`t know if [...]
It's becoming a habit to do posts immediately before I leave fo my hometown. Today, I'm going back to my town, where I do my studies or better: Where I live most of the time and from time to time, enter the university for some classes. Anyways, so I have something to listen to, while I'm sitting on the train, I selectes something from The Whip, a bit of CSS's self-titled debut record. The Hives
as could be every other night, but I don't have class today and tomorrow not until 6pm, which makes it kinda reasonable to do an evening post. Atleast it does in my mind. I wish I could promise to have Tuesday nights as constant mix nights, but there's a huge possibility of failure, so I don't promise... before I disappoint my non-existing readers -haha. Anyway, this is simply a random 9 song

So while I journey`d through Zelda yesterday I decided to give the Dartz! a listen, and I was quite impressed. I wasn`t expecting such a big sound out of a three peice...and there very talented musicians to boot...Which makes " This Is My Ship " and enjoyable album...I can`t say the Dartz! have the best vocals England , but the interesting chord progressions and hooks makes up for it...If your in the mood for a little Dance-Rock then grab some Dartz! .....oh and don`t forget their MYSPACE [...]

DARTZ! : This Teesside group's debut album This Is My Ship drops on February 12th, but in the meantime, do whatever you can to hunt down any music from them. At times I hear Q & Not U or Tom Vek, but the band's jittery indie rock may be equally normal and weird, but it is just as addicting. [mp3] "Network Network Network" Plan B : Plan B's debut LP dropped to a mass of [...]
