Friday is another one of those rare (or not so rare) days in Austin that comes around every once and a while that blows the minds of us music types. The day is so jammed full of music goodness that we are dedicating a whole post just to Friday's shows. Which one are you headed to? The Parish : Elvis Perkins & A. A. Bondy @ 8pm for $14 . Mohawk : Bishop Allen and Darwin [...]

i took a two week break from listening to music. even in my car. everything was blah. i promised myself not to post anything new till i found a song that made me feel alive again in the special way only music can. well... darwin deez - radar detector (can we talk about the noise they decide to make at 1:37? let me know if you're interested.)
Couple of cool live shows in Phoenix tonight: Two Brooklyn, NY bands - Bishop Allen and Darwin Deez - are touring together and show up tonight at Modified Arts. Local electronica outfit Futurekind kicks things off. Love the clean clear pop of Bishop Allen's "The Ancient Commonsense of Things - hear it at their MySpace page. And Darwin's Deez's 'Constellation' is groovy as a childhood lullaby for hipster kids. Read more about Bishop Allen at Brooklyn Vegan , arbiter of all great things musical NYC. - UK [...]

One of my favorite things about being plugged into the blogosphere is being clued in to the relatively new phenomenon of an artist going from obscurity to hype in the blink of an eye. One mention in the right spot and suddenly a band is blowing up. One blog features a tune, which gets picked up by three other blogs. Those three turn into nine, which turns into twenty-seven, which is about the limit of my math. Long story short, catching the right ears can go a long way. When I first [...]
On Monday I posted a Xaphoon Jones remix of a Darwin Deez song, Radar Detector. I know the article was all about rap, but that Deez song is the one I was really hoping people would take a shine to. I was trying to describe Darwin Deez's sound and came ...

American indie rockers Bishop Allen have continued their string of creative music videos, in support of the recently released Grrr... , with a brand new one for the song, "True or False". The video, supporting the second single from this year's release , is a throwback to the days of the Ed Sullivan Show . With early 60s style dancing both on stage and in the audience, the video puts the attention all on recreating the static-y, black and white quality of the legendary TV show. The video, presented [...]

julian, we love it when you sing to us about the stars. Darwin Deez - Darwin Deez myspace buy it rating: 7.3
Hot Dog blogged about the Cool Catz before. There is no question that these guys are good. They are also based out of LA. And they put together a sound that can really be described as indie rap. And knowing that the hip hop community hates labels, ...
This Monday, November 8th will see a wonderful trio of out-of-town bands at the Rickshaw Stop : Brooklyn's Bishop Allen , Seattle's Throw Me the Statue , and New York City's Darwin Deez . Bishop Allen's headlining spot is in support of Grr... , out now on Dead Oceans . Both the latest album and 2007's The Monitor are excellent lessons in intelligent, straightforward indie pop, the distinct Bishop Allen sound that is also captured in the band's [...]

it's only been a week but i know that you are mine to keep ♫ Darwin Deez - Radar Detector I know absolutely nothing about this guy* and I am not going to do any research either because that shit would dilute the pure joy I experience when I hear this song. You know how much I like hand-claps! "Radar Detector" reminds me of Kyle Andrew's " Sushi " but I'm not sure if that's cause they are both similar or they are both epic. Anyway, that's Darwin himself on the right [...]

Darwin Deez is an NYC artist that's been getting a lot of buzz lately with his quirky brand of indie pop. I'm not encouraging you to judge people based on their looks, but if you tried to guess what Darwin Deez sounded like by looking at the above picture, you'd probably be pretty close. The vocals sound a little like Ben Kweller, the music includes guitars, electronic drums, and handclaps and the sound is both simple and highly entertaining. Check it out. When I think Bishop Allen [ MySpace ], I have to admit I usually don't think dancing go-go girls, but after this video, I might. The latest video from Grrr... , "True or False", features the lead vocals of Darbie Nowatka Rice and if the black and white clip doesn't make you think of a kinder and gentler time (ironically during the Cold War), then you have either no soul or no taste of history. Also, you probably hated Rohan and Martin's Laugh-In which I find troubling. I really do like [...]
My first kiss was in 6th grade, with a girl named Jean. It was probably a horrible experience for her – all tongue and mouth and not knowing quite where to put my hands. It was what we'd learned from TV and movies, and was nothing that could be taught ...

Darwin Deez - Radar Detector Take the time to listen to this really fun song. Darwin Deez is also apart of the band Creaky Boards , which accused Coldplay briefly of plagiarism of "The Songs I Didn't Write" for the melody of "Viva la Vida". Hopefully you got to see him at CMJ if you had the pleasure of attending CMJ.

The coo of Clocks era Martin merge delightfully with the laconic Casablancas drawl in the carefree compositions of NYC native Darwin Deez. Not as serious as the former, not quite as cool as the latter, the Deez is living in his own little bubble. It's not supposed to feel this good, it's music to put in your pocket and forget about. He looks like he's been out at an 80's night for the last five years without showering. In a good way. Darwin Deez - Radar Detector [...]
