Ahhh February, when the weather is not consistent, children of love find more ways to spend money on each other and we at Kick Kick Snare show our lust for all of you, by throwing 20 songs on a digital mixtape (CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE). We here at KKS are extremely excited for February, why? Because we've got some monstrous, mind melting, disco ball-breaking stuff going on backstage, and we will soon be inviting you to the VIP room. In light of this exciting month in KKS history, I thought it would be interesting to expand our horizons with [...]

The four Brooklyn boys rap over Grizzly Bear.
At the end of last year, Das Racist announced that each of its three members would be releasing solo mixtapes in 2012. It's only early February, but two of the members have already released them! How do they expect the world to keep up with this much Das Racist? Nobody knows. All that we can know is that so far, the count is 2 wins, 0 losses. First released this year was The Palm Wine Drinkard by Kool A.D. . Das Racist has been known for some [...]

Heems - Nehru Jackets Greedhead: 2012 At this point I think it's safe to say that one of Das Racist's primary objectives is to confront American bohemia with its own undeniable whiteness. This is water under the bridge for a lot of us. Scanning a room to discover I'm the token black guy at whatever event I'm attending is a persistent reality for me that's passed the point of being interesting. (People of color just don't fuck with independent music as much for whatever reason. Nobel Prize to [...]

Yep, it's Friday again. And you know what that means: 10 of the week's bestest, freshest songs arranged for your listening pleasure in descending alphabetical order. Today, we've got new material on deck from Jack White, Orbital, and M. Ward among others. TGIF, indeed. - Möhammad Choudhery Staff Writer Beach Fossils - "Shallow" At the beginning of February, it seems strange to embrace the warm, sunny sounds of Beach Fossils, but that's why it's great! There's a major shortage during this [...]

Maffew Ragazino teams up with Das Racist & Harry Fraud on "Jackson Pollock", off Maffew's upcoming Rare Gems 2 Black Gold Mixtape.
1 - Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will Mogwai yet again releases an amazingly ambient yet centrally driving album filled with anticpatory progressions and songs that blend sonically disparate sections as if they were just one melodic chorus. 2 - Yeasayer - End Blood Yeasayer's 'End Blood' EP made the list thanks to [...]

Artist : Das Racist Venue : The Corner Hotel, Melbourne Date : Mon 30 Jan 2012 Hi readers, how's it going? Thought I would take this opportunity to tell you how the Das Racist show in Melbourne went the other night.

This Saturday Feb 4th Vice and music streaming service Rdio are taking over Bondi's Beach Road Hotel and cramming it full of bands including Das Racist, Canyons, Alpine, Collarbones and Jonti with DJ sets from Twin Shadow & Austra. Better yet it's a free gig - you just need to win one of the 300 double passes, which also give you a free 7-day trial on Rdio. I would totally be there if I wasn't going to be going hard in the paint to Twin Shadow at Laneway Melbourne. That's a thing, yeah? [...]

Time for a little bit of aural time travel. Let's look back, reflect, and contemplate... what were we listening to one year ago? Listen to the January 2011 Mix and find out. You can stream (and scrobble ) all the songs in this mix using the ex.fm player at the bottom of the page OR you can just download any or all of the tracks at your leisure and play them using a digital media player of your choice. Chairlift is one of those bands that you've probably heard a bunch of times before but you could never name if you were asked to. They've been around the block since 2005 and done almost everything. They've made music for haunted houses, were featured on an iPod Nano commercial in 2008, and got a VMA nominee in 2009 for the outstanding video to their single "Evident Utensil" (watch it below). Lead singer Caroline Polachek has been featured on tracks by Washed Out , Holy Ghost! , and Das Racist , and Chairlift's other half, Patrick Wimberly, [...]

Heems, of Das Racist fame, dropped a mixtape project last week "Nehru Jackets". That was cool. Now Heems lets go "Mr India" a fresh (and as the title indicates) Indian-inflected big beat loose track. Thanks Heems! Heems - Mr. India Heems ( Facebook ) Rating 7.9
The Das Racist member has released a Nehru Jackets outtake.

Today, Das Racist member Heems let loose a leftover track from his recently released mixtape Nehru Jackets titled "Mr. India." Released via his Tumblr , the track combines traditional Indian sounds, as well as some Bollywood thrown in there, with classic East Coast hip hop, and sees Heems laying out his classic non-sensical lyricism. Give the track a listen below. Heems - "Mr. India"

Das Racist member Heems is now streaming "Mr. India", a leftover track from his recent solo mixtape Nehru Jackets , at his Tumblr of the same name . The beat's a hybrid version of Bollywood dance and East Coast gangster thud. The rhymes, though, are straight Heems, with references to everyone from Rambo to Ludacris delivered in a methodical pace like he's telling the plot to the weirdest movie ever. Check it out below.

Himanshu, FKA Heems, spends a considerable amount of time delving into the identity politics and cultural penumbras of his Indian-American heritage, and no song title codifies that more than this new track he released yesterday, via Twitter , from a laptop in Australia. But for Bollywood laypeople, it's worth noting that the "Mr. India" is actually a reference to the '90s mega-hit superhero film of the same name, which my brother and I repeatedly watched the shit out of while holed up in an air conditioned room on my last trip to India over ten years ago. It's classic [...]

Today we bring you Side B of our January mixtape; you can listen to Side A here . Even better, you can download the whole thing over at our tumblr . This installment includes selections from two of our favorite January releases, Schoolboy Q's Habits & Contradictions and Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory , as well as cuts from upcoming albums by The Men and Blondes. Enjoy. 1. Cloud Nothings - "Stay Useless" [...]

Nothing says rap like some 80s Hong Kong film clips.
Kool A.D., the most heavily-bearded member of Das Racist, released his all-over-the-place mixtape The Palm Wine Drinkard on New Years Day. For some reason, it didn't include "Ooh," his cloudy-eyed collab with the zoned-out Oakland rap duo Main Attrakionz. But that track is now out there, with a music video and everything. The three guys rapping don't actually show up in the clip, though. Instead, it's comprised entirely of clips from Wong Kar-Wai's 1988 Hong Kong art-house movie As Tears Go By . Watch it below.
