Mashup Monday - We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop you're searching and instead settle down at your computer... turn up your speakers... and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO . First off, I want to take a moment to reflect back on the passing of Adam Yauch aka MCA . Beastie Boys have been pioneers within the music scene, and the death of Adam shall surely [...]
Datahowler is the Gosling-esque car mechanic of the music community. Somehow he can make magic out of monotony, here transforming a charming, yet boring Wiz Khalifa song of yesteryear into a more fitting anthem ripe for hypem chart domination. Datahowler emerges from it all without a stain on his shirt. You wonder what else he can do with those hands. Wiz Khalifa "Say Yeah" remix. I thought the beat on this song was a travesty. The hook and flow is actually really awesome, so I gutted it and did my [...]
Datahowler is back on his remix game as of late taking on tracks from Beyonce and Wiz Khalifa . The latter remix appeared online over the weekend, as the multi-talented Dallas artist took on the weed lover's "Say Yeah". You might remember that fellow Potholes favorite Falside previously turned the track into a crunchy lurker . But in the hands of Datahowler, "Say Yeah" is certified Sunday-afternoon listening and unbelievably chill. Listen below.

It's been too long since we've posted Datahowler , don't you agree? Can't say I've heard the original version of Beyonce's "End Of Time" from her album 4 , but I rather like what Datahowler has done here. At 97 BPM Beyonce sounds like what I imagine Fat Betty Draper might sing like with a touch more soul after polishing off a bucket of Bugles. Beyonce - End Of Time (Datahowler Remix) |
Earlier this morning, the homie Datahowler somewhat randomly took to his Soundcloud account to share his latest joint. It's a remix of Beyonce's "End of Time," off last year's 4 , and it's apparently what he "think[s] Beyonce should sound like." After hearing his take on the track, I can't help but think most of us wouldn't mind if she sounded like this. Maybe we can coax Datahowler into doing an all-out Bey remix project. Hmmm... You can stream the "End of Time" remix below.
Disclaimer: The 25 artists featured on this list categorically transcend the traditional notions of instrumental music- and where boom-bap plays any role, the traditional notions of hip-hop. Despite the ambitious efforts of bloggers and critics, they are also impossible to genrify. Still, a few things are certain. Most of them have either been compared to or influenced by the still omnipresent J Dilla, in many ways the torchbearer of their sound. They are audiophiles. They know how to handle their varying labs of MPCs, vintage analogue keyboards, drums, guitars, field recordings, and future sounds. They piece together collages [...]

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that you're finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering, "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???" This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers [...]
Beyond Datahowler being one of the most prolific artists to come out of Dallas in recent memory, he is also one of my best friends. With that said, I can tell you how much of a freaking lunatic he is. While keeping under the radar for the past few months, only releasing Passengers As Eggs EP earlier in the summer, I can guarantee you that what is about to occur is a widespread tornado of musical awesomeness. To kick off that whirlwind, Datahowler drops of the Melt mixtape, a blend of tracks [...]

We're very excited and honored to be presenting this mixtape by one of our favorite musicians, the wonder that is Datahowler . He's crafted this one in honor of the heatwave/drought that Texas experienced this summer from which they are just now recovering. In his own original work he draws from a myriad of influences, so it's only fitting that this would be an eclectic bundle of joy. More than just a mix, it's an explorative journey of sound. Stream it through his bandcamp here, or grab the .zip of mp3s . He's also [...]

Melt! by Datahowler At the beginning of the Summer we were given Datahowler's stellar Passengers As Eggs EP . Fitting, that at the end of the Summer we present Melt! an eclectic mix of songs dedicated to the recent 70+ days of extreme heatwave and drought Texas. Joining MJF in premiering this mix are our friends at Dipped In Dollars and Potholes In My Blog. OH Datahowler is nominated for 2 Dallas Observer Music Awards for Best New Artist and Best Electronic Artist. [...]
I was first introduced to K-Murdock through his stylings in Restoring Poetry in Music (RPM). He's not technically a part of the band, but has contributed to it as you'll soon see. I've mostly gotten to know his work through Panacea and more recently his collaboration with Mega Ran, entitled Forever Famicom . But now going through his SoundCloud, I'm beginning to realize how much more he has to offer. I'll admit, I was a Raw Poetic fanatic and didn't want to hear anything K would do without him. It took me long [...]
In our "Spot·lightning" series, we're going to find the best of what SoundCloud has to offer. SoundClouders that 'spark' our interests. Got one of your own ? We're also kicking it all off with a possible mixtape (depending on you). Check out the details here and make sure to participate! I'm not sure how it's already been two years since we started the blog. What began as a casual idea is now a very real endeavor, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I've been exposed to such phenomenal explorations of electronic music, and met loads of great people along the way. I am truly grateful to anyone who has ever supported us in any way. Thank you. To celebrate, as we did last year , Chief, Crimson and I have all made anniversary mixes of our favorite sounds of summer. (Theirs will [...]

This is crazy I remember when this guy used to do mashups as Objektiv One . Thanks to the constant vigilance of Potholes In My Blog (our esteemed colleagues in the new Strangers In Stereo ), I came across the Passengers As Eggs EP . Passengers As Eggs by Datahowler On numbers like 'Radar Indicates' and the title track, Datahowler eschews the brash complex simplicity we loved in Dilla, with the outer-worldly creativity of a Flying Lotus. Download the 7 track EP below [...]

You should all be familiar with Datahowler by now, he's the Dallas-based
