Facebook / ohdaughter.com/ An ironic song title to be writing about today, "Run", for that's exactly what I did too much of yesterday, after running Chester Marathon yesterday I don't think I could run right now, if my life depended on it, my stiff and aching thighs and calfs are as tight as can be... "Run" the song was actually talked about here as long ago as November 10th 2010 when it was a demo track for a solo artist called Elena Tonra who'd recently changed her recording name to [...]

“I sometimes wish I’d stayed inside my mother, never to come out”. If that lyric doesn’t kick you between the teeth then nothing will. Daughter are responsible for some truly captivating lyrics – the simplicity of lines like “I want him but we’re not right” are pure heartbreak; “I’m sorry if I smothered you” the final, apologetic nail in the relationship coffin. Sung by Elena Tonra, the [...]
Experiencing Daughter perform a live show is just like watching a sped up video of the bloom of a delicate flower. And while that may sound outrageously corny, it is completely accurate. She takes the stage in such an innocent and feeble manner that leads you to wonder if she has never been on a stage before. Then, without warning, a complete transformation takes place. Her voice fills the room piercing through the hearts of the audience accompanied by her captivating instrumentation. Her talent as well as her confidence grows beyond every verse and chorus, ultimately giving life to [...]
Daughter Love (Skynro Edit) When I finished with the Troy Gunner mix, I moved on this Synkro edit, and haven’t been able to play anything else since. Just wow. Killer track to begin with, but this edit gives me endless chills. Rapid heartbeats, longing glances and endless hours spent dreaming of what might be, tenderly exposed, characterized by echoing murmurs, gentle distorted hisses and sparse, rippling guitar chords. I’ll fall in love with you to this track any day… Synkro | Soundcloud | Facebook [...]
Synkro's managed to make Daughter's track even more chilled out. Good job.
So as you may know, today is the first day of Bestival! A day upon which thousands of costume wearing, music loving boys and girls descend upon the Isle Of Wight for a 4 day carnival. We were lucky enough to be able to go this year, and so to make you guys jealous, and highlight some great music. From the class and legacy of Stevie Wonder through the rude brash and brilliant Azealia Banks to the tactful, subtle and immensely talented Daughter, there's really someone here for everyone. We actually shared our five artists we'd like to [...]

As you may already know, These Brittle Bones - 'Anchor Bleed' is our 'Track of the week', well today we have something special for you. A free download of a Daughter song. Chris Jones has put his own spin on Daughters amazing song 'In The Shallows'. Follow / [FACEBOOK] Listen / [BANDCAMP]

Trembling and terrified, Daughter 's new song shows the (sometimes) value of production. While prior tunes like Run were flinty, spindly affairs, Smother - the first single from an eagerly anticipated debut album - is bigger and thicker, glossed with spectral background vocals and big builds, all with a slight whiff of Florence, no bad thing. A trio led by Elena Tonra, Daughter now sound more important overall, more significant. They sounds great. They sounds desperately sad. Click here to view the embedded video. The single's [...]

SGTMT

Tweet Today is the second birthday of Sounds Good To Me Too (SGTMT) . To celebrate we're having a whale of a party at SGTMT HQ. It's crazy down here. We've hired one of those party entertainers to make balloon animals and Tom has dressed up as a giant penguin. Oh the laughs. We felt it would be most appropriate on this day of days to take a trip down the grammar strewn alley of old SGTMT posts and relive some of our [...]

The older we get the less we appreciate things that once made us happy. What some adults take for granted could mean the world to someone whose been on the earth for less than a decade. Children are some of the best people to be around. Their opinions will always be unbiased, their imagination limitless, and their appreciation for anything and everything is to the max. Inspired by Nas' track Daughters , Atlanta emcee C.A.S.H. gives his own spin on fatherhood and raising a son. [...]

Daughter write hauntingly-honest songs of realized sadness which land so close to the heart they leave a chilling awe alongside a lingering sadness that is as real and true as art can get, " Smother " does nothing but solidify these already known tangents of their music. To say that " Smother " invokes feeling would be a tragic understatement, the wave of realism embodied in this rare moment of self-evaluation is omnipotent; this is where goodbye appears inevitable drawing out that duality of love as an emotion vs. love as honest realism magnifying the [...]

The Curiocast because there are indeed some odd little bits and pieces on this week's podcast. Listen to it and you might not notice much different - it's not exactly shocking or all that strange or anything like that, but there are most certainly a few odd little things here and there. Geographically, we have music from Karachi, Vienna and Novosibirsk. Genre-wise, we have some of the first R&B(ish) music ever to appear on a Toadcast and then we end with seven minutes of choral folk singing performed in Hamilton Mausoleum, reputed to have the longest echo of [...]
