This weeks playlist was culled from a mix of local and national acts playing at this year's MusicFestNW. The New Music Hour on Portland's 94.7FM is dedicated to bringing listeners music, both local and national, that might not normally get on the station's playlists. Below are the tracks in order of appearance on the show [...]

Dykeritz In an effort to blend what I post here in the way of promotional MP3s and what Portland's 94.7FM plays on air, I am joining 94.7 DJ, Squid, two nights a week on the New Music Hour to play the latest offerings from artists and labels. Rather like newspapers FM radio is not going away. [...]
My good friend Jon Ragel of Boy Eats Drum Machine invited me to "join" his band for a show at Portland's Wonder Ballroom on Saturday August 16th. The premise being that it is a Talking Heads and Cure cover show! Ha! But put Jon and Dave in a room and you're not going to get [...]

Through The Sparks. Sticking with the lazy summer vibe, although I'd rather be on a Mexican beach, I discovered some new music on Peel that is decidedly mellow. This week you'll here new music from John Vanderslice, Through The Sparks, Iron & Wine, Boy Eats Drum Machine and an intriguing new talent from Ireland, Fionn Regan, [...]

So I figured I'd throw together a podcast of some cool tunes that you can impress your friends with when you are on your deck slugging back the PBR. So here's the [...]

Saturday night, on a specially built stage alongside the swimming pool at the conference hotel Calexico played a short but inspired set. I was able to grab some audio using the Zoom H4 Digital Recorder and I am pleasantly surprised at how well the sound quality turned out. Other than some ambient crowd chatter the [...]

Now that KEXP's PDXplore live concert series has had its inaugural Portland concert I decided to turn my attention to what's new on the block in town. As you may know the idea for PDXplore is to introduce Portland bands to Seattle and vise versa by hosting concerts in each city with support from KEXP. Coincidentally I put together a podcast each week here at Pampelmoose.com that gives listeners a chance to hear what's best from the Portland underground, and occasionally, overground local music scene. This weeks podcast features the clattering blips and beats [...]

Last year Barbara Mitchell, me and KEXP kicked off a little thing called PDXplore . The idea was to have Portland bands perform in Seattle and vise versa. A simple idea really; when it comes to live music the view from down here in Portland and the view from up there in Seattle is not dissimilar.....both cities have thriving music scenes and loads of talent and both cities have supportive music communities and plenty of music fans. Of course it goes without saying that Portland doesn't have the benefit of a station as cool as KEXP. PDXplore [...]
