Peer Picks of 2011 – Trevor Ives (Meridene, The Frenettes)

Peer Picks of 2011 – Trevor Ives (Meridene, The Frenettes) T Carl Ives has been gracing our local stages here in Eau Claire for the better part of the last decade. Last Saturday, he took the stage for the last time as the lead singer of Meridene (it was incredible!) but Trevor has new projects upcoming and is by no means disappearing from our local music scene. Phew! So keep an eye out for Trevor's new project(s) as we head further into 2012, and in the meantime, check out Mr. Ives' list of his favorite albums of 2011. Fucked Up [...]

Peer Picks of 2011 – Kyle Flater (Laarks, Peter Wolf Crier)

Peer Picks of 2011 – Kyle Flater (Laarks, Peter Wolf Crier) Our man Flater may have left the Chippewa Valley for the 24/7 combination rave/orgy that is Chicago, but his bread-making, rubberband-headband and basketball shorts-wearing spirit is still here, persisting in the hearts and retinas of all who knew him and suffered the chronic snow-blindness that came from looking in the general direction of his immodestly exposed and highly reflective (bright, bright white) legs. God protect his soul navigating the dingy corridors of that non-stop feast of Saturnalia that is the windy city, that suppurating gas bladder of festering urbania, where the pizza sauce scandalously rests ON TOP of the cheese. [...]

Single Servings: Azealia Banks, Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan), The Dø, and M.I.A.

Single Servings: Azealia Banks, Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan), The Dø, and M.I.A. New music from Azealia Banks, Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan), The Dø and M.I.A.! That is a lot of great new music for one Single Serving. Thankfully, I think you can take it. What you waiting for: give 'em a play. Azealia Banks - Bambi Uhm, so the new Azealia Bank's track is mind-melting (and, uhm, very N.S.F.W.)! As it stands now, Banks only offers up only a brief, but fiery, rap in the center of the track surrounded by giggling and small talk-like narration, but Pitchfork reports [...]

In Case You Have Forgotten (Record Reviews)

In Case You Have Forgotten (Record Reviews) By Alex Brenner Although I must say 2012 has been pretty good musically so far, I always find myself digging up some older records. When I say older I'm talking about late 902s and up, not the classics. Talking with fellow A-Lister Rube, the other night we did a little reminiscing and it got me thinking about some great records of the past. The ones where you say "Oh man, I have not heard that in forever!" I do listen to tons of new music too, however, these are some you may have forgotten about or [...]

Track of the Day: Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan) - 'No One Asked Bazan to Dance'

Track of the Day: Deerhoof (feat. David Bazan) - 'No One Asked Bazan to Dance' Ever wondered what 'No One Asked To Dance' by Deerhoof would sound like if Satomi Matsuzaki's vocals were replaced with David Bazans ? Of course you have! We ask ourselves that question on the regular. Anyway, as if by magic (though we fully suspect Polyvinyl have been reading our diaries) the track has appeard online. It's taken from the Deerhoof/David Bazan split 7", which is out now on limited edition clear blue vinyl. Listen below, then order it here .

Peer Picks of 2011 – Andy Plank

Peer Picks of 2011 – Andy Plank 2011 was an exciting year for Andy Plank. He began his career in writing, the Packers won the Super Bowl , he rediscovered Comedy Bang Bang and he got big red glasses. He spent most of the 365 days between January 1 and December 31 listening to albums that came out early in the discographies of Weezer, Modest Mouse, Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World. Every once in a while, however, he stopped being so bitter about all of his favorite bands that crumpled and faltered under the pressure of becoming popular and he listened to a few new [...]

Peer Picks of 2011 – Peter Miller (We Are The Willows)

Peer Picks of 2011 – Peter Miller (We Are The Willows) Peter played to a jam-packed crowd at The Cabin in November Peter Miller is We Are The Willows, and we love his stuff . A Twin Cities man, he defines life in the fast lane. When he isn't hacking the homeland security mainframe, he's day-trading at the NYSE via bluetooth. This plus all the great music he makes amounts to a busy schedule. But, dear man that he is, he took to time to share his top 5 albums of 2011. We hope this list whets your curiosity and provides insight into just what makes [...]

Dave Bazan on Grapes of Rad Podcast

Dave Bazan on Grapes of Rad Podcast My blog has always overlapped between music and my life, often times because the two intersect with my work in music in general- or because I'm a woman that likes to tell everyone everything? I hope you appreciate the sincerity, because I want you to feel like there's a real human on the other side of this thing. As most of you know, I'm a huge fan of Dave Bazan. I've seen him in handfuls of cities, in stranger's living rooms, and it's been easy to be loyal to his discography because I started separating from my religious [...]

Be There: Heavy and Light 2012

Be There: Heavy and Light 2012 I believe strongly in the work that Two Write Love On Her Arms does. I also believe in my love for William Fitzsimmons, Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional) and David Bazan (Pedro The Lion). Together, they make up the 2012 edition of Heavy and Light, TWLOHA's annual benefit concert. I'll be there, and if you live in Orlando (or anywhere in the area - I'll be driving the 90ish miles from Tampa), it would be great if you would come, too. There are still tickets available for a mere $24 (no service charge).
