David Byrne and Fatboy Slim explore the life of Imelda Marcos through clubby, danceable tracks on their latest collaboration. The two-CD set features an amazing array of artists, including Sharon Jones, Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine, Tori Amos and, for Today's Top Tune, it's Sia, handling the vocals on "Never So Big."

Once again, just staying barely behind the curve (but as of now, officially up to date), here's Drake 's latest roundup of the new releases. -ed. Drake's Take: New Releases 04.06.10 Another shallow week for releases... pretty soon, the floodgates will open again, I assure you. This week features an interesting new collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, along with new releases from Dr. Dog, Sigur Ros' Jonsi, Robyn Hitchcock, Harlem and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings . Playlist: [...]

david byrne & fatboy slim's highly conceptualized & totally fantastic new album "here lies love" dropped last week - the album tells the story of "the rise and fall of the philippines' notorious imelda marcos" & features a slew of v. diverse & prominent female voices, including florence & the machine, st. vincent, sia, nellie mckay, cyndi lauper, santigold, roisin murphy, and many others. the album hasn't been getting as much attention as it deserves - this is incredibly interesting stuff, it's a theatrical disco drama, poised for stage conversion, & features an array of genres & sounds. check out [...]

Here Lies Love [Nonesuch / Todomundo; 2010] Links: David Byrne & Fatboy Slim | Nonesuch | Purchase on Insound Posted by Rob Hakimian on 09 April 2010 David Byrne loves to collaborate. His last full-length release was a collaboration with Brian Eno [...]

Here is an update of some notable albums that were released yesterday. David Byrne & Fatboy Slim - Here Lies Love With the help of Fatboy Slim, Byrne created a fascinating cd/dvd combination album written about the Imelda Marcos. He enlists some of the greatest female voices out there, including Santigold, Martha Wainwright, Camille, and Shara Worden to sing the 22 different tracks. "The story I am interested in [...]

I really dislike doing The Graboid is such huge chunks like this, but rather than skipping weeks, this is how it'll have to be done until I get this back to being a weekly posting. That being said, there have been a ton of great releases over the past few weeks with one in particular from last week that I've been extremely excited about: the self-titled LP from Black Tambourine . It isn't exactly "new" material, but a complete compilation of their material from the early 90s (they only lasted two years). [...]

Here Lies Love is a cd/dvd combo with songs written bij David Byrne (plus musical help by Fatboy Slim) about Imelda Marcos. No, the shoes aren't mentioned. Byrne is fascinated by people in power, wat power does to them and what makes them tick. For the vocals on the 22 (!) songs, he asked an impressive bunch of mostly female singers. Several of whom were featured on this blog, like Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamand, Martha Wainwright and the lovely Camille. The latter doesn't sing in French, alas, but you'll recognise her instantly. Fun album. There will be [...]

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim have gotten together to produce an immense, 23-track album entitled Here Lies Love that basically tells the life story of Filipino former First Lady Imelda Marcos (yeah, the one who was addicted to buying shoes. ) I know it sounds strange, but apparently what truly drove the project was Byrne & Slim wanting to take a theatrical/dramatic approach to writing club songs, and somehow Marco's story fit the bill. An interesting idea-and the album seems interesting as well, seeing as how it features many other top artists such as Florence [...]
Another gem surfaces from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's upcoming collaboration, Here Lies Love. So far, everything I've heard thus far from this concept album (about the life of the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos and her relationship with a servant from her childhood) has been stellar quality. The album [...]

I never thought I would live to see a day when an indie-rock god would make an Andrew Lloyd Webber " Evita "-style soundtrack to an imaginary musical about the rise and fall of former Phillipino First Lady Imelda Marcos, and cast it with the likes of Roisin Murphy , Tori Amos , Cyndi Lauper , Santigold , Sia , Martha Wainwright and St. Vincent , to name just a few. But whatever Talking Heads legend David Byrne wants, he evidently gets. Collaborating with Fatboy Slim , of all [...]

These Digest's are tough to do because there are really only two emotions I feel while writing them: disappointment and bewilderment. The former for bands I love that are delivering sub-par baloney and the latter for bands other people love who are delivering sub-par baloney. These opinions are of course only my own and that's why I persist with this series, because others may be really into these tracks and that is great. Different strokes, ya know. On the other hand, some may just be curious as to what different bands are up to these days. Read it for any [...]

After some collaboration effort by electronic music god Fatboy Slim & indie hero David Byrne in The BPA , they once again are teaming up for a strange concept album about the widow of the Philippines' former dictator, Imelda Marcos . The album, ' Here Lies Love ', is due for release 23 February 2010 and comes with vocal contributions from the likes of Cyndi Lauper , Róisín Murphy , Sharon Jones , Florence + The Machine , St. Vincent , Tori [...]

Star songcraftsman David Byrne, who released a beautiful and underrated album with Brian Eno ( Everything That Happens Will Happen Today ) in 2008, is readying a release with none other than Fatboy Slim. In the introduction of Here Lies Love , Byrne says: "The story I am interested in is about asking what drives a powerful person—what makes them tick? How do they make and then remake themselves? I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if—as this piece would be principally composed of clubby dance music—one could experience it in a club setting? Could [...]
David Byrne & Fatboy Slim featuring Santigold - Please don't

Well, a new year is upon us and with it comes hope for great new music. Here's a list of some upcoming releases that have me excited. Given the topsy-turvy nature of the world in which we live, all release dates (when given) are tentative and subject to change. Spoon – Transference (18 January UK, 19 January Canada/US) 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga was a big ol' slice of excellent, and I [...]
