At Iota, a small club outside Washington, DC, a cadre of loyal fans greeted unconventional singer David Ford for a Sunday evening serenade. Hailing from the south of England, Ford came highly recommended to me by another music writer I trust. Even still, I went in cold, knowing not a single thing about this man's music. Indeed as I was foretold, I was sucked in and converted before the first song was over. 'Pour a Little Poison' opened the night with a rollicking, harmonica laced sing along from his latest [...]

David Ford is a throwback-in his own words, he's just a "whiney little Georgia boy singing the blues." And with song titles like "Liverpool" and "Song For The Republican Convention," he's doing nothing to hide that fact. His new EP is some great rock and roll. Makes me want to see him live. Which you can, by the way, below. The EP is, apparently, the first half of what will be his fourth album-to be released next summer. I'm digging it. Get it for under five bucks at Amazon . [...]

A looped acoustic cover of David Ford's brilliantly cynical song.
The British songwriter strips back the beautiful ballad. It sounds exactly like you'd expect. Which is perfect.

Anybody like me who had tickets for one of the three UK shows in April, will now have to make new arrangements for July instead as the current dates have been postponed . Luckily my diary in early July is pretty free, so fingers crossed a trip to the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds still awaits, and barring my occasional recording incompetance, a post featuring the mp3 will follow.

David Ford walked onto the basement stage at Union Hall carrying two small briefcases. Without a word he started shaking them into an old-fashioned radio mic. Filled with god-knows-what, the briefcases clattered in a violent rhythm like workingman's maracas. As he shook, he sang. "Well I took me a deep breath and I counted to three / I am nothing at all like I wanted to be / I was born into comfort, I was raised by TV / I am nothing at all like I wanted to be." With porkpie hat and ratty [...]

DOWNLOAD: David Ford - "She's Not The One" (from Let The Hard Times Roll ) Singer/songwriter and one-man band David Ford is playing a show at Union Hall next Friday, March 26th. David is touring in advance of the release of his third solo disc, Let the Hard Times Roll , which comes out April 20th on Original Signal. Ford spent the second half of 2009 creating Let the Hard Times Roll and the disc was predominately recorded in an empty [...]

In theory, David Ford should be ten times more popular than he actually is. This is usually the type of gushing I use to emphasize how much I enjoy an artist's music, while also expressing befuddlement over the tastes of the general public. But this time, even from a strictly A&R perspective, I really mean it. He's young, charismatic and has a great voice, while his songs are straight forward, hooky and (seemingly) tailor made for mainstream radio. However, judging by the passion he puts into his songs, as well as his blatant (yet still amicable) honesty, perhaps [...]

British troubadour David Ford is set to release his third album Let The Hard Times Roll on April 20, 2010 via Original Signal Recordings. Let The Hard Times Roll is Ford's third and boldest album, containing some of the most upbeat, rocking songs he's ever written, like the genuinely boisterous "She's Not The One." Third album from British singer/songwriter David Ford epitomizes the new D.I.Y. mantra (and cold reality) facing so many performers these days. Signed to Sony in 2004 for his breakout solo debut, Ford has moved to independent free-agent status, jettisoning his official website, producing himself (and playing almost every instrument in the studio) and continuing to tour solo as a tech-savvy one-man-band. Third album Let The Hard Times Roll , hitting stores April 20 via Original Signal, proves that what hasn't changed, fortunately, is Ford's way with a passionate, sometimes political tune. Be it upbeat boisterous folk/rock - [...]

David Ford. Hmm. I remember him... So once upon a time, I was dating this Aussie girl named Katie. Katie Monaghan. She was stupidly hot and we had two, maybe three dates which briefly made my diary exciting reading. Then she announced she had won tickets to a free iTunes show at the ICA (they used to be on there), and would I like to come? Me: yes, love to. Who's playing? The answer was the Irish mavericks Duke Special, who I have always liked, and David Ford. Who? An Australian singer-songwriter Katie adored, [...]

Website So long time, no post. Well partly thats a result of the usual UK downturn in gigs over the Xmas / New Year period, and partly that there haven't been any attractive shows, to leverage me from my Winter slumbers. All that changed though with the advent of February and the arrival of a new album to promote by David Ford. While I wait for the deluxe version of the album to land on my doorstep, I was able to catch some of the new songs at David's support slot for [...]
