The ethos of The Spirit of Folk festival which took place last weekend on the grounds of Dunderry Park near Navan was about Folk in all it's spiritual formats. It was billed as a festival which would bring together folk music with folklore, storytelling with archaeology and arts with spirituality. The Spirit of Folk festival brought all these aspects of Folk to life and enabled the igniting of a wonderful rustic community not normally found at festivals. For this review I can only write about the bands I seen. I wasn't able to attend [...]
The fifth album from Bell x1 takes what the band learned from Blue Lights on the Runway, and takes another step forward.

Fingertips of the Silversmith is a polished, professional and personal album of real quality. However for some reason it fails to ignite passion in me and at times falls flat. Tiger Cooke is a really good songwriter with a pleasant pure voice that I could listen to for days. The best songs on the album are the single 'Out of Reach' which wouldn't be out of place on Ray Lamontagne's Trouble and the uptempo opener 'Rid of Her'. I also really like the Americana [...]

Firstly Tadhg Cooke has decided to become Tiger Cooke for his second full album release. I really like the debut entitled 'Wax & Seal'. The new single 'Out of Reach' is being released as a free download from Tiger's bandcamp page or from the widget thingy below. The new album produced by Bell X1's David Geraghty is called 'Fingertips Of the Silversmith' and will be released on 22nd October 2010. TRACKLISTING 1. Rid Of Her 2. Andrea's Fault 3. Out Of Reach 4. Grinding Teeth [...]

Part Four of my countdown of the Best 50 Irish Acts today. The only requirement for entry is that the artist must have played live or released something in the past twelve months. 20. And So I Watch You From Afar ASIWYFA are not for everyone. They released a double-album of instrumental tunes last year which divided opinion. Some people loved it and some people hated it. I was nearer the first camp. They released their Letters EP earlier this year, and I must say that it's an improvement on the album. [...]

On Twitter I'm following Tadgh Cooke who is currently on the road in America with The Guggenheim Grotto. http://twitter.com/tigercooke A few years back Tadgh released a very good debut which he didn't get the recognition he deserved. Recently Tadgh has been an integral part of Dave Geraghty's band. Here is Tadgh with a live version of the Van Morrison and adopted Jeff Buckley classic 'The Way Young Lovers Do'. Tadgh Cooke - The Way Young Lovers Do The song was recorded in 2003 [...]

A little late, but better late than never. Here's my Top 10 Irish Albums of 2009... 10. And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watc You From Afar If Salvador Dali was still alive today, he may paint an album cover like that of ASIWYFA's debut album. Better still, if he was a musician, he'd probably make bizarrely brilliant instrumental tunes like the eleven shoegaze classics that appear on this debut album. [...]
I originally posted this on Nialler9 's blog as part of his readers' poll for the best Irish albums and songs of the year. Well here's my top 10 Irish songs of 2009, complete with videos. Enjoy! 1. The Holy Roman Army – Stagger Gently Home What a fantastic video, created by the kids at Drumphea National School in Co. Carlow. Plus the song itself is amazing. 2. David Geraghty – Tuesday's Feet (No video, not even a live one online) 3. 202s – Ease [...]

David Geraghty's Victory Dance was my favourite Irish album of 2009, filled with gorgeous melodies. As a special thanks to all his fans who bought the record, he has covered Queen's 'Thank God It's Christmas'. It's a fantastic cover, which I recommend you download! Download: David Geraghty - 'Thank God It's Christmas'

Ronan from Swear I'm Not Paul blog has nominated Dave's 'The Victory Dance' as his Irish album of the year. Here's Dave doing justice to Bowie's Thank God It's Christmas. David Geraghty - Thank God It's Christmas http://www.davidgeraghty.com/c hristmas/

It does seem in Ireland that this year's Halloween is being celebrated like never before and I'm loving it. Here's an Irish Halloween mixtape! Some of the tunes are technically not written about Halloween but are included for atmospheric qualities. 1. And So I Watch You From Afar - Set Guitars To Kill 2. Ham Sandwich - Running Up That Hill [Live] 3. Pearse McGloughlin [...]

This Thursday night sees three of our best artists battle it out for the hard earned cash of the concert going faithful. Here's the great choice for your pre-halloween night out! Dave Geraghty - The Odessa Club €10 Dave is back in Ireland after a short tour with his side-project Bell X1 and is doing a few dates around Ireland including this one in the capital. Oftentimes when the guitarist of a band makes a solo album (or a second solo album, in this case), they're often filled with more noodling than songs. Their solo career gives them a chance to do those five minute solos they can never do with the original band. This is not the case with Bell x1's David Geraghty. You wouldn't know it from his work with Bell x1, but Geraghty is a more than accomplished singer. His voice is perfect for an album like this - he's kind of like the male Lisa Hannigan. Except this album is [...]
Recorded over a year ago during the briefest of breaks in Bell X1's hectic international tour schedule (despite being almost totally unheard of in the UK, Bell X1 were recently seen wowing Letterman across the pond), David Geraghty's second solo offering was put together in a West Cork barn full of marauding bats, additional artists that David claims you can pick out amongst the slower moments. We certainly couldn't clock them, but you can see what he's going for: the sound is intensely atmospheric, subtle and focused on simple instrumentation and melodic vocals. It's both pointedly understated and [...]

![David Geraghty - The Button Factory [Gig Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1992764_lg.jpg)
***Disclaimer ..... this review contains no bias or negative comments which will result in Dave going all Chris DeBurgh on me! *** The Button Factory was the final gig of David Geraghty's short Irish tour to promote the excellent album 'The Victory Dance'. It was such a great night of music that begun with Miss Paula Flynn accompanied by Greg McAteer on guitar and Jay on percussion playing songs from their debut album 'Miss Paula Flynn'. Personally I can't wait to hear the album. I think it'll be full of Lisa Hanniganesque [...]
Bell x1 guitarist David Geraghty will be promoting his excellent new album The Victory Dance at the Button factory on Wednesday, the 16th of September, and I have two tickets to give away. All you have to do is tell me what was the name of the band which featured Bell x1 members as well as Damien Rice? They had such songs as 'Weatherman' and 'The World is Dead'. Leave your answer in the comments section as well as your full name. I'm running this competition in coalitaion with Culch.ie , so you [...]
