On Further Review by Nick Parker Just my luck: Having returned only days ago from a trip to LA, I have just come across a singer-songwriter from there that I completely failed to see play when I had the chance. Luckily for me I have managed to get hold of David Gergen's new album , "The Nearer [...]

David Gergen's new album, The Nearer It Was... The Farther It Became , opens with clean buzz and nebulous atmosphere setting a scene that travels from the dark and mysterious to the relative more straightforward. Overall its a nice piece of work made possible by a subdued ominous creep, songs, and Gergen's resonating vocals. L.A.'s David Gergen likes to fly solo. He converted his living room into a home studio in order to record his fourth album, The Nearer It Was…The Farther It Became (due out January 18), which contains songs written and performed by Gergen alone. So what you'll get is a sound purely his, entirely untouched by any [...]

For a solo artist to garner comparisons to greats like Nick Cave, Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen is quite a tall order, yet Los Angeles native David Gergen manages to do just that with his self-released fourth release, The Nearer It Was…The Farther It Became (out January 18). And he has no high-end producers or backing [...]

David Gergen takes acoustic indie rock places it rarely goes, especially on one record. Bending ambience on Seven Miles to Sunset , throbbing electronics on Ore De Electro , along with bluesy slide guitar on The Streets I'm Walking , there's a taste of everything on Gergen's latest solo release (his fourth), The Nearer it Was...The Farther It Became . His voice, though consistently deep and resonant evokes the spirits of Nick Cave , Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen . Check out this taster below and visit his [...]

David Gergen is a pretty normal guy by a majority of standards. He exercises a decent amount of the time. He has a garden, which he tends to regularly. He goes on cool vacations to places like Italy to check out the sights. And he really digs being out among the natural world. Basically, David Gergen is my dad; the only difference is he's putting out music that derives solely from his brain while engaging in these day-to-day activities. After all, centering yourself is the key to creating consistent art. The thing, though, that does separate Gergen [...]
