Wow. What a weekend. I'm sure you're all out getting loaded, but some of us have to work tomorrow. I guess that's why they call it Labor Day, amiright!? Hi, I'm Evan. You might remember me from such drunken blog posts as this one I'm writing right now. Also last night's post and most of [...]
One of the last of the Delta Bluesmen passes away at age 96.
I awoke this morning at 7am to a string of text messages. 12 of 'em. And, yeah, 11 of them were from Louise telling me about the adventure she had last night. But one of them was from my boss. It just said, "Honeyboy died last night. Seriously, we were so lucky to see him." [...]

Charley Gallay, WireImage David "Honeyboy" Edwards , considered by many to be the last surviving member of the first class of Delta Blues musicians, has died at the age of 96. David "Honeyboy" Edwards , thought to be the oldest surviving first generation Delta bluesman, died yesterday at the ripe old age of 96. Here he is doing the classic "Sweet Home Chicago" in 2010. Mr. Edwards's career spanned nearly the entire recorded history of the blues, from its early years in the Mississippi Delta to its migration to the nightclubs of Chicago and its emergence as an international phenomenon. Over eight decades Mr. Edwards knew or played with virtually every major figure who worked in the idiom, including Charley Patton, Muddy [...]

I just got back from playing with the cutest little black lab puppy I've seen since the day my mom brought home our black lab. This event has jump started my, uh, biological clock - if a dude can even have a biological clock. But instead of an annoying child in my life, I suddenly feel the urge to bring a dog into my world. I would name him either Gangu, like the little pup in Audition , or Xasthur, because well...that would rule. I guess if I wound up with a girl dog I'd name it something like [...]

Last night I had the extreme pleasure of seeing "Honeyboy" Edwards perform at Cozy's in Sherman Oaks. The last time I saw him was two years ago, when he was but a spry young lad of 92 years. Now, two years older and wiser, Mr. Edwards returned to the same blues bar where he last performed, and treated his audience to a rousing performance filled with hot blues licks and plenty of verve. He can still play plenty of great blues riffs, and he love to toss in some improvisational tricks and time changes to joke with his backing band. [...]

• Someone who is as obsessed, if not more obsessed with soda pop than I am compiled a list of the top ten discontinued sodas. He or she must be older than I am, since I don't recall products like Coke II, Hubba Bubba, or well...just about anything on that list other than Crystal Pepsi, Slice and the Orbitz drink. If I had a chance to make a list, it would have to include things like the original Jolt Cola (before they got all gay and changed into an energy drink company), Pepsi Kona (only tested in the [...]
