The Indelicates have gone all out for this release, creating a video game called "Super David Koresh Attack"-the player tries to dodge ATF members in order to get to the mission to pray-and expressing interest in turning the whole thing into a full-length film. The Waco Siege may not be the hottest talking point among music fans, but The Indelicates have done a stunning job at making history palatable. In 2010, the Indelicates' second album, Songs for Swinging Lovers, rekindled my love for music by being clever and critical, and for sounding like a glorious collaboration between the Mekons, [...]
It looks good on paper. Acclaimed indie pop band write a Lloyd-Webber style rock opera about infamous cult leader David Koresh. What's not to like? Well quite a bit as it happens. A story of this weight and grittiness could be taken in a number of ways. As a massive tongue in cheek epic, a light emotional work or a dark intense psychedelic for example. What transpires is, however, an over rehearsed Arcade Fire-lite retelling an incredible story poorly. So lost are they in making the lyrics fit within the song that you get little sense of the mind of [...]

'I Am Koresh' By The Indelicates . Ok, so I don't generally do musicals, all that scripted 'spontaneity,' bursting into song at inappropriate times, ham-fisted lyrics and jazz hands a go-go, sorry but y'know, it just ain't really my bag. My prejudice has been further reinforced over the years by being made to watch cringe inducing student theatre after dating a drama student, Ben Elton 's dreadful rock opera vanity projects, 'American Idiot' on Broadway and of course the utter shitefest that is "Glee". I'm also [...]
For all their grand, benevolent statement and intentions utopian societies are rarely looked upon with favor by the wider populace. The Oneida Community of the mid and latter 19th century New York State was hardly an exception. The Community was founded on John H. Noyes' theology of Perfectionism, a form of Christianity with two basic [...]

Texas trio Strange Fruit Project return to the fold today after a lengthy layoff, offering up a new, and more importantly (guilt) free downloadable EP, M.A.S.K. (or Making Art Sound Kool ). The group, comprised of M.C.s Myth and Myone, and M.C./producer Symbolyc One, last made waves back in 2006 with the release of The Healing , a seriously underrated LP packed with and poingnant rhymes (and a guest appearance from Erykah Badu on 'Get Live'), as well as soulful production from Sym and guests 9th Wonder, Illmind and Jake One. Now [...]
Another week, another picture of Charles Manson on the blog. Here are my favourite cult leader musicians.
