Waiting on the sunshine, but in the meantime let's talk musical shop: ►Nashville continues to bear solid musical fruit as Vandervelde parks it at the Echo tonight with harmonic folk/rock of tourmates The Fling (hello, Dangerbird Records). Locals Francisco The Man round out the bill and this combo has #win written all over it. P.S.: Vandverlde does a cover of Huey Lewis' "Power of Love". Take that for all it's worth. ►One night in L.A. is not enough so Portishead are at the Shrine Expo Hall for [...]

10.13: Netherfriends + Native America + The Jonesbirds - The Saint 10.14: David Vandervelde + Caddywhompus + Carter Tanton - Chickie Wah Wah David Vandervelde was only 20 when he was introduced to ex-Wilco jack-of-all-trades Jay Bennett, who at the time was still putting together a solo career after leaving his former band on less than amicable terms in the aftermath of the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot recording process. Though Bennett was initially signed on for [...]

photo by hollis bennett my man david vandervelde is coming to new orleans to play at chickie wah wah on 10.14 along with local boys done good, caddywhompus and carter tanton of lower dens. i, sadly, have never seen vandervelde live, but i hear the guy puts on a helluva show usually pulling out some awesome covers like "cocksucker blues" - one of my favorite songs. his records, are equally as awesome, and cant recommend his 08 release, waiting for the sunrise, enough. pretty sure it was in my top ten from that year. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: If you need music tonight, Tim Kasher is playing the Mohawk, and Leatherbag will be at Hole In The Wall. On an unrelated note, a local business called EasyCanvasPrints did me a solid recently, and you should check out some words about it here. I really like David Vandervelde, so it pains me a bit to know that I missed the below single by roughly six eternities (in internet time). Oh well. On [...]

David Vandervelde and Christopher Paul Stelling at Mercury Lounge in New York, NY (August 23, 2011)

Sometimes, as a concert goer, you simply luck into being in the right place at the right time. This was one of those times. When we booked our family vacation back in February, I had no preconceived notions of going to any shows while we were there. I mean, Cape Cod is more known for showcasing bands like Beatlemania (a Beatles cover band) than for being a stop over for top notch indie rock. So earlier this past week, when I learned via Facebook that Deer Tick was [...]

Baixe a nova faixa do David Vandervelde , More Than You Can Feel. David é um músico americano, multi instrumentista e já lançou dois álbuns e um EP. O terceiro álbum será Big Lies, ainda sem data para lançamento. Mas já podemos apreciar uma faixa do disco. More Than You Can Feel é rock com bons riffs, na maior estilo Wilco de música. Jay Bennett , mentor e parceiro de David, vai gostar de ouvir isso. MP3: More Than You Can [...]
Common literary and cinematic logic dictates that should the protagonist of the story have a mentor, said mentor will, at some point, be removed from the story. Sadly, as is the case with singer-songwriter David Vandervelde , his story finds him on the verge of releasing his third LP, titled Big Lies, without the guidance of his late mentor and good friend Jay Bennett. As a result, he's offered up the effort as a tribute. The first track to surface is "More Than You Can Feel", which [...]

Always a pleasure to hear about a forthcoming David Vandervelde record. In my ears, this guy does no wrong. In a note to fans , David writes: "It's been a little while since I've emailed you, it's just that I've been busy wrapping up my latest full length record. I think it's going to be called BIG LIES. I made the record with the help of some friends, right here in Nashville in my basement. Then I took it up to my friends Bill & Jessica up over at Key [...]

I spent a few hours yesterday climbing Funhouse to Upper Refuse on Cathedral Ledge in North Conway, NH, pictured above. Was a great climb with an even better view, and after 5 pitches, 600 vertical feet and a nice applause from the group of people at the top, I was interviewed for a documentary being made about Dean Potter . Obviously not what was I expecting to do after my first climb in a few months. We hiked back down to the car, stopped for a couple of beers [...]

So it's Boston Beer Week in which the breweries that are descending on our fine city for the ultimate beer event, the American Craft Beer Fest (ACBF), do many promotions, tap take overs, beer dinners, meet & greets with brewers all over the city. I am overwhelmingly excited and will talk about it to anyone and everyone. Luckily for you, there is always room for music when it comes to beer. Tonight I have mapped out some of the places I want to be and it requires some walks, bus, and subway rides to get to my destinations. Obviously these [...]

Got to check out David Vanderveld this past weekend at the Brooklyn Bowl here in Williamsburg. Had some good times. Always happy with venues that just let me bring the camera in. Not sure who the band was before David, but boy was I happy for them to get off the stage. I just felt like they were just throwing noise at me, so believe me I was happy to have David's psychedelic soul music come to the stage. [...]
