On Canada Day, I went up to Major's Hill Park. By around 12pm the area was filled with alot of people. I was there to check out CBC Songwriter's Circle . This year it was back at Major's Hill Park. The Songwriter's Circle was broadcast live on CBC Radio 1 and 2. This year's performers featured were Deon Blyan, Ash Koley, Beth Moore, Jeffrey Piton, Bonnie Ste-Croix and David Vertesi. Hosted by Bandwidth host Meg Wilcox. [...]
![Hey Ocean, Aidan Knight & The Donna Litas @ Ritual [March 15, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4136271_lg.jpg)
It was a rainy March 15th but that didn't stop people from attending this show at Ritual. Playing at the show was: • Hey Ocean! • Aidan Knight and the Friendly Fires • The Donna Litas The show started off with Ottawa's The Donna Litas. They rocked it up during their set. [...]
Vancouver indie (sm)art/pop trio Hey Ocean -- vocalist Ashleigh Ball, bassist/producer David Vertesi and guitarist David Beckingham -- will be releasing their overdue third studio full-length in 2012 but we got a taste of what they've been up to with Big Blue Wave, the recently released 4-song EP in Canada. The threesome have always been comfortable with a breezy blend of pop, soul and folk but the new songs -- led by the irresistable title track -- sound even bigger, bolder and brighter than before. After spending the summer last year with [...]

For those of you who have visited this particular blog in the past, it is no secret that I will shortly be packing up the family and moving out west. I'm opening a new pizza place on Commercial Drive that I hope each and every one of you will have a chance to frequent consistently in the near future. Aside from the business side of the move, I am most excited about living in a city with a reliable music scene. I have spent a lot of time pondering all of the shows I will be [...]

It's been awhile since people last heard from Vancouver's Hey Ocean! Well today they just released a new song called Make A New Dance Up. It's a upbeat dance-pop tune. Can't wait to see and hear what will be on the new album! Have a listen to Make A New Dance Up which is free to download on here .

I have a feeling this is going to be a solid weekend filled with packing, bbq'ing and enjoying the last of mountain life (not that the Coastal Mountain Range isn't good, it's just not the Rockies...sorry). Here's what will be playing. Free mp3: Deer Tick - Smoke Off Free mp3: The Keys - The Colour Red Free mp3: Big Deal - Chairs [...]

David Vertesi might be best known for his role in the Canadian band Hey Ocean! , a band that churns out indie-pop so sweet that it's guaranteed to give you cavities. On his own though Vertesi is a little more retrospective and thought provoking. Still spending his time writing lyrics about standard fare such as love, loss and challenges, Vertesi presents them is a way that is far different than one might be used to hearing from him. There's a mixture of drum tracks and electronic loops, all build up as a foundation for Vertesi's acoustic folk. [...]

DAVID VERTESI | CARDIOGRAPHY FILE UNDER : MUSIC Better known for playing bass in the Vancouver indie band Hey Ocean!, David Vertesi’s solo debut, Cardiography, is a lovely and personal set of songs that have an unassuming beginning but are really quite affecting. Vertesi’s folk-pop songs balance simple instrumentation with introspective lyrics about love that feel so easy and natural, you’d think he was a seasoned solo artist with a much longer discography. “All Night, All Night, [...]

David Vertesi is yet another Canadian I've been fawning over. The lyrics are his strong point, with hundreds of quotable lines sung by his deep rough around the edges voice that is prone to melting hearts. This is a simple and organic album but it is completely wonderful and timeless. You can listen to it for hours and never tire of it and it is the type of album you will be able to pick up in 20 years and still enjoy. " Some say love is all it [...]

Here is another installment of the best of 2010 Canadian albums. There is a mix of indie pop, rock, dance, folk and even jazz. This time its from #41-#50. Hope you will like who is in this list. Don't forget to check out their music. Plants and Animals - La La Land Plants and Animals is a band that will take some risk and experimentation on La La Land. [...]

Love is a time-honoured theme that emerges in all facets of artistic expression and, however ironic this may sound, it is often more appealing to listen to the melancholy aspect, probably because we can better relate, rather than hearing someone sing about how good their love life is (Barry White excluded of course). And so it is with a heavy heart that David Vertesi's debut album Cardiography is brought forth to the masses. Perhaps Vertesi's lyrics exposing his vulnerabilities coupled with his boyish good looks is an attractive and luring combination. Perhaps the success [...]
READER'S DIGEST VOL. 11The most downloaded song this week was David Vertesi's, "All Night, All Night, All Night". So if you don't necessarily agree with our music selections all the time, your best bet is beautiful folk/indie pop perfection that apparently a lot of people downloaded. If you need a good story before going to sleep, this might just do. Off Vancouver's own David Vertesi debut solo album Cardiography , comes the delicate track "All Night, All Night, All Night". The song's name might seem a little obnoxious at first, but after the first listen it makes you realize it really couldn't have been called anything else. And if there's one thing that Vertesi masters in this song, it's the ability to paint a vivid picture in the head of the listener to the point where each phrase seems to appear as a [...]
CHAPPOThis band reminds me of musical era not too long ago; we're talking late 90's/early 2000's. Yet they find a way to sound recent. Maybe it's the mention of "riding solo." Either way, they've sat themselves in a perfect balance between current and past audioscapes. Enjoy their song, "Come Home" below, off their new EP, Plastique Universe. David Vertesi is best known as part of the Vancouver indie pop group, Hey Ocean!, although has branched out a bit and recently completed his debut solo album, Cardiography. Set to be released on October 26th through File Under:Music (Dan Mangan, Kathryn Calder), Cardiography is a concept driven album about learning to love - what one would assume is well-worn territory, however despite the potential for cliché Vertesi’s refreshing frankness and often-painful sincerity steer this record clear of anything banal or ordinary. His songs highlight the many (and sometimes contradictory) sides of love and [...]
