Dawes has been working real hard at becoming one of my favorite bands of all time. That sound crazy to say about such a young band, with only three albums to their name, but each one is a solid effort. Their third album, Stories Don't End , was released early last month and I am loving every song, especially the lead single, "From a Window Seat".

If you have been paying attention over the past year you already know that Dawes has been featured in several posts. The first time I heard them I knew that it was just a matter of time until they produced an amazing record and I am very happy to tell you that that time has arrived. I am going to characterize their new album in an way that will probably be controversial but if you give me time I think you will understand. Here goes......Stories Don't End is the best Jackson Browne album I have heard in [...]

Craig Kief Spring is only barely here - the past few days' weather notwithstanding - but the concert announcement machine is already making eyes at Autumn with the unveiling of a couple of pretty high profile tours coming through town when the leaves start to change and the days get shorter. Sam Beam, the walking epitome of bearded folk music, released Ghost On Ghost - his fifth album as Iron & Wine - last month, but until now only had Spring dates in the northeast and Europe confirmed [...]

There's absolutely nothing pretentious about Dawes. They don't attempt to challenge or disorient the listener with unnecessarily musically verbose meanderings, or lyrics that contain cryptic metaphors. This band's power stems from directness, honesty, and crystal clear human-to-human musical communication. It's incredibly challenging as a songwriter to pull this off without lulling the audience to sleep, or becoming musically inconsistent when dealing with the overall vision behind the work. In Dawes's 2013 release "Stories Don't End," The album showcases guitarist/songwriter Taylor Goldsmith's ability to craft music that is laden with catchy [...]
"Grab your cigarettes and follow me out of the living room and I'll get drunk enough to tell you how I feel" I always wonder what happens in a person's life to turn them into such cuttingly honest songwriters. But Taylor Goldsmith, Dawes ' front-man, doesn't hide behind metaphors in this song. Nor does he in the rest of their new album, Stories Don't End, which came out a few weeks ago but I just got my hands on. More direct than ever before, Taylor weaves stories out of his own life, points out [...]

Some artists take a while to warm up to while other artists you fall in love with instantly. For me, with the case of Frankie Lee , it was the latter. His effortless vocals produce a country blues sound comparable to Dawes or Middle Brother but with a handful of country western thrown into the mix. You may know Lee's name for his time supporting Molly Maher before he decided to go out on his own. Frankie has already played a respectable number of shows of his own over the years as he's [...]

Over the course of their first two studio albums, HT faves Dawes have helped revitalize California's Laurel Canyon music scene by offering up their modern take on the laid-back country-rock sounds that emanated from that area in the early 19702s. Last week Taylor Goldsmith & Co. released their third full-length effort Stories Don't End , the band's debut on their newly launched label HUB Records. Produced by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones), the 12-track affair is once again steeped in Goldsmith's emotionally wrought lyrics, and while it fully nods to the music [...]
LA -based retro-rockers Dawes relocated to Ashville, NC to record their third album, Stories Don't End, which comes from a line in Joan Didion's 1984 wartime novel Democracy. This time, the band enlisted producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Norah Jones, Tom Waits) in an effort to push their music to a new level and beyond the retro Laurel Canyon Americana they have become known for. Stories Don’t End is Dawes most intricate music to date, full of colorful detours and surprising instrumental flavors and a sharper sound. Notable tracks include: the Jayhawks-esque harmonies on “Most People”, experimental [...]

A Little Bit of Everything ). Dawes toerde daarna onder meer met Mumford & Sons en, jawel, Bob Dylan . Hier is From A Window Seat van [...]
