According to his Myspace page, our favorite horror-obsessed swamp balladeer Dax Riggs will be dropping a brand new album July 20th. Goodnight to the World will be released by Fat Possum and will feature ten new tracks, all titled with characteristic Riggs aplomb. "I Hear Satan," "You Were Born to Be My Gallows" and "See You All In Hell or New Orleans" are my favorites. When we interviewed Dax about Halloween a couple years back, he mentioned a new album in the works, a little more produced and with some [...]

...and so brings to a close our very first Blog Takeover Week. We'd like to thank Nicole Atkins from the bottom of our Jersey-loving hearts for her time and contributions during the week, for locking up and shutting off the lights to the office each night—and for restocking the liquor cabinet. How about that shit? We'll see all of you at The Rock and Roll Hotel tonight when she and The Black Sea roll into town, right? 'Til then, Nicole's DJ'd the week's Final Ten from the road... [...]

Yay!! While writing a retrospective is fun and turns me all nostalgic, having to post it can drag on for days, which turn into weeks. Here's the final part of our series, which was supposed to cover five consecutive days, but I'm a tired girl most night after the pool or yoga!! OBAMA! [...]

Who knew that an attempt to listen to more albums this year as a new year's resolution would turn into such a great stretch of music. I started the year just diving into my record collection, listening to albums that I hadn't heard in a while. Then I had a great weekend at the end of February that kicked off a season of concerts in the city. That Friday I had to dig my car out of a snow pile for a few hours in order to make it to Brooklyn to see [...]
I can't sleep again, maybe it's because of this inappropriate children's slide...or probably because of something else. at least woody knows that there's no way I'm asleep and he has no problem calling to check in on me after one a.m. There's a new map in town that purports to show not only where all the single men or women are, but also to split it by age demographics. It seems [...]

DAX RIGGS, JOHN BARRETTS BASS DRUM OF DEATH, ADRIAN H & THE WOUNDS (Roseland Grill, 8 NW 6th) Louisianas Dax Riggs has been a rock star in waiting for years. His resonant, crooning vocals and death-obsessed lyrics are compelling and unmistakable, but hes gone through bands quicker than some people change their underwear. First there was the NOLA sludge-metal band Acid Bath; next the drugged-out, 70s-glam-inspired Agents of Oblivion; and then Deadboy & the Elephantmen. Perhaps wisely, Riggs has finally gone solo, issuing We Sing of Only Blood or Love last year on Fat Possum. [...]

It's been too long since I've seen a show at Stubb's indoor, so long in fact that I'm not even sure when the last time was. This all changes on Tuesday night. Dax Riggs, having just released his first "solo" album, will be performing at Stubb's indoor after the Stars/Lemurs gig on the outside stage. If you haven't heard of Dax Riggs, he's the dude from Deadboy & the Elephantmen. If you haven't heard of Deadboy & the Elephantmen, then you should go pick up We Are Night Sky [...]
Once again, we plead our readers to join the fight against "twee." On this occasion, we rally 'round Dax Riggs , who leads us here into battle, with a blaring ax. No dancing, no blips, no bleeps, only blood. Dax Riggs - Wall Of Death (mp3) Dax Riggs - Living Is Suicide (mp3) From We Sing of Only Blood or Love
Had to hold back on the Saturday line up after all the mess following the White Stripes cancellation. Rumors of a U2 performance were just ridiculous and they eventually ended up just bumping everyone up by an hour. The good news to come out of all the mess was that Ghostland Observatory will take the spot left vacant at the Stubbs afterparty on Sunday. Hurry and get tix here . Now on to Saturday.... 12:30 - 1:30 Sound Team No More Birthdays (San [...]

My oh my, how time flies. It's already September, which means two things to me: 1 , football is back. 2 , the Austin City Limits Music Festival is right around the corner. Dylan, Stripes, LCD and more. Three days of great music, virtually non-stop. If the meteorological society knows what they are talking about, then the rain will give us a break just in time. If time, general ACL-craziness and other obligations were not an issue, my schedule might look some thing like [...]
