Denver is exploding with new talent. We last posted about Jeremy “Daytona Velasquez” exactly one year ago with his track "Disconnect" , jagged and robotic dubstep tune. Today Daytona brings forth something much more fluid in its conception with "Dark Child" . Introducing itself with a somber beginning, the track picks up in intensity and emotional undertones as light vocals glide through a series of ever evolving structures of wobbled bass lines. A definite chill and poetic sounding track to vibe through while ending a night full of surprises.

Having abjectly failed to regain control of our In-box since returning from holiday, we are still working our way through a sackful of new bands, new albums, new singles, new tracks, new demos and everything in-between. So with apologies for the delay in posting some of these, here is one awesome round-up of stuff that has caught our ears, our imagination, or, best of all, both. First up is Terrible Beauty a track of swirling hypnotic texture-pop from the Daymoths upcoming sophomore album, a We [...]

Come this December most sites and blogs will be making their best albums of the year list, though many won't include or list EPs amongst those which is a shame, because some of my favourite releases of 2012 have been in the short-but-sweet form of an EP. I mention this because London duo AlunaGeorge dropped an EP at the start of the year that's in a close race with Daytona 's and Burial 's EPs, and on October 7th they'll follow that up [...]

Daytona came onto my radar due to the presence of a member of Harlem. Given that another member is now fully involved in Lace Curtains, yet another garage-centric rock-pop band, I was expecting more of the same. But Daytona is anything but. What you get with a song like "Undertow", rather, is something more like The Unicorns or the early stuff from Nick Thorburn's post-Unicorns band Islands. And you'll get more of the same on their new EP, Storm So Long . Check it out [...]

Andi and I went to the beach this past weekend. And now we're engaged, around five years and five days after our official first date. We're pretty excited and have been talking to all our old friends about the plans (completely unofficial at this time); most likely a June 2013 wedding. I sense a show packed with love songs coming up in the near future. As for this show, it was the normal mix of new records, along with some scattered favorites from the first half of 2012. Enjoy! [...]
If you ask nicely, today's music will pay your rent. Enjoy. : Agent Ribbons - Family Haircut : Here's a local act that I've come to really like in 2012. This has come by way of older releases, though, so it's nice to have something new so that I can chat them up. At first glance they seem to carry a pretty simple approach to things, but if you spend a little time digging around, you'll notice that they're spectacular songwriters. The Let Them Talk EP is due out on September 11 via Antenna Farm Records. [...]
Monday, August 6, 2012 Today's Quick Mention: I should be set to catch screenings of The Campaign and The Bourne Legacy early this week, so be sure to pay attention to the film section for breakdowns. Wistful jam from Daytona , featuring Jose (formerly?) of Harlem . Strangely enough that descibes this song pretty well, it ends up sounding like 1/3rd of Harlem, a good thing. A solid initial offering from the new project, a 4-minute track of 90s reverence and jangledness with some seriously morose lyrics.

When Pela said, "yeah, there's an undertow, but it ain't got me" in 2007, the implied assumption was it would have gotten you by now. It was New York after all, an inverted version of Sinatra's "If I can make it there ..." thesis; if I can make it there, I'll be dragged out to sea. Pela, it is worth noting, is now We Are Augustines , opening for the Counting Crows , an undertow of an entirely different variety. Another Brooklyn band, Daytona , who sound a lot [...]

Daytona Brooklyn-based Daytona is a new group made of of Hunter Simpson (Wild Yaks), Jose Boyer (Harlem) and Christopher Lauderdale. Listen to "Undertow" from the band's EP, Storm So Long , in this post. The band's EP is available on their BandCamp page.

Harlem member Jose Boyer teams up with Hunter Simpson from Wyld Yaks and Christopher Lauderdale to form Brooklyn's Daytona . Their self released EP, Storm So Long , is out now as a download and a hand-screened vinyl record at their bandcamp . They use delay heavy South African guitar and world beats with elements of surf and garage rock to create nostalgia-laden ear candy. Download "Undertow" below. MP3 : Daytona - Undertow [...]

L Magazine 's annual feature of 8 Bands You Need To Hear is always worthy of a look, especially since they do a pretty good job of identifying local up-and-comers that are just beginning to get on peoples' radars, which is a notable feat, since the scene is so routinely over-scoured. But, there's some interesting stuff in here, from the gauzy pop of Field Mouse and a new project from members of Wild Yaks, Harlem and the Siberians (called Daytona), so head to their site to read a little more about them. The eight who made [...]

Formed by members of Brooklyn's drunk folk-punk icons Wild Yaks and Austin based indie rock'n'roll darlings Harlem , DAYTONA is a new band that delivers a less energized sound, but more complex and as drenched in ethilic atmospheres. The band's debut EP could be filed under the chill wave (or glo-fi) wave, but we also hear a fair amount of post rock influences, traceable in the guitars' textural patterns and elegant melodies. The vocals bring in the alcoholic element, with their lazy cadence and crooked melodies, at times reminiscent of early Pavement and early Modest [...]
Es mejor poner lo que no conocen en el título, pero sepan que traemos nuevas de Ting Tings , Nada Surf , Silversun Pickups , King Khan , Tennis y Joel Plaskett , entre otros. Said The Whale Como para despistar al enemigo. Pero en mi opinión lo más destacable es lo del título, especialmente el nuevo proyecto de la gente de Harlem , llamado DAYTONA , y 3 1/2 , una banda que [...]

Tweet Listen to Daytona 's new "Storm So Long" EP below. As we wait, extremely patiently, for a new album by globe-rockers Harlem , they've clearly been at work in the studio. Starting this side project as Daytona , they've left very little information about it, but it has Jose from the band, along with Hunter Simpson and Christopher Lauderdale . They've been playing [...]

" Where will you go, when you find you are alone? You don't have a home, you should have known. " quite a forcefully miserable way for Brooklyn's Daytona to announce themselves yet utterly fantastic. Their debut track Storm So Long is the dictionary definition of 'a grower', with what on first listen appears clumsy, gradually solidifying into a stunning lo-fi anthem. As pointed out previously, it's lyrically downbeat, but as Storm So Long rumbles by, it's nigh on impossible to not be intrigued. With no other sign of the group anywhere within the [...]
