Our New Noise series raged on last Saturday as Reptar , Fort Lean and Casual Curious lit up a sold out Gibson Guitars Showroom. If you weren't able to get your hands on tickets, we've got plenty of photos from the show after the jump courtesy of Laura Lopez. For those of you looking to satisfy your ATG live fix, there are still a limited amount of advance tickets for this week's All Things Gold with Summer Camp , Gigamesh and Ghost Beach . Grab them HERE [...]

Glory be, the funk was on me. My piece on George Clinton and Parliment Funkadelic goes live tomorrow over at the WC Paper that is.... Update : Read all about it here . Subscribe in a reader

For those of you keeping score at home, this is Ghost Beach 's third appearance on ATG (here are one and two for those of you who have not—tsk tsk), confirming their status as what our good friends over at Neon Gold Records have labeled "NYC's next big things" and reconfirming our own recent poetic waxing sessions. Even if Ghost Beach hadn't already been wowing electropop fans from Bushwick to Adams Morgan, the duo's new single "Too Young" exudes the effervescent, youthful sound that is all the evidence we could ever need: with a sound [...]
Each 4th Tuesday of the month, The Plums hold a residency at the Dynasty Ethiopian restaurant on 14th Street. The band plays a set themselves, and also invite a guest to open up the night. This past month, America Hearts kicked things off, playing a set of old favorites as well as introducing us to a couple of new songs. The above video features the band performing one of those new tracks, "Give Me Your Lips." Stay tuned for some new releases that the band have in the works. Thanks to Rob [...]

The Mausi train keeps rolling full steam ahead with another killer remix of the ATG Records -released track "sol.," courtesy of one of our favorite DJ's in the game, Lightwaves . While Polarsets' treatment of the track may have taken us to more exotic locales, Lightwaves' version belongs nowhere but the dance floor. The remix explodes right out of the gates with earth-shaking synths behind Daisy Finetto's vocals, building up into a cascade of bass, keys and electronic blips that's sure to give even the biggest sound system a run for its money. [...]
Pitchfork : Bruce Springsteen announces new album, Wrecking Ball , due out March 6th. Lead single above in video form. Clash : Azealia Banks signs with Universal. Hopefully this experience will be a bit better than her last stint with XL Records. Billboard : Jay Z's Rocawear lays off half its staff. I'm sure there was a very fashionable severance package. The L : 101 secrets to indie rock success. Reason [...]

Last month we started off our New Noise series with a hell of a show . St. Lucia and Savoir Adore in the intimate setting of the Gibson Guitars Showroom here in DC? Doesn't get much better than that. For our second show and the first of 2012, we've decided to go big. Real big. On Saturday, February 2nd we're excited to be working with ASCAP to bring Vagrant Records artists Reptar back to Washington, DC. You may have caught them at our debut All Things [...]

Sadness on the mom and pop store-front...My some-time employer reported today that long-time Dupont Circle record store, Melody Records , here in DC, will be closing this winter after 34 years in business. Jack and Suzy Menase opened the store in 1977, and moved it to its current Connecticut Ave. NW location in 1979. "While we wish that we could continue indefinitely, technology, the internet and the economy has taken its toll, and we have concluded, unfortunately, that it is not possible to survive in this environment," the Menases wrote in their letter. Melody [...]

We've come a long way, haven't we? It was only this past summer that we teamed up with our buddies over at Neon Gold Records for the party behemoth that is now All Things Gold. The good times we've had with you all at U Street Music Hall are some of our most treasured memories of 2011. So what better way to kick off 2012 than with a nostalgic reunion show of sorts? Headlining the night we're bringing back the Knocks , who's live set tore up U Hall their last time around. These guys had a huge 2011, [...]
![[Review/Listen] – Pree – "Folly"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3947923_lg.jpg)
Tweet Although I can say I have rarely heard anything like it, that doesn't mean that the latest album from D.C. based band Pree is changing my life. Rather, this chirpy little merry-go-round of a record, "Folly" , is slowly but surely seeping into my good graces, as though through the crack under the door to my heart. There are times during the album when I feel like I am at the tea party in Alice In Wonderland. That's not to [...]
Thievery Corporation is out with a new track featuring Mr. Lif (of The Perceptionists) that is sure to be the new anthem for the Occupy movement (sorry Miley). It was only a matter of time before the D.C. natives (and godfathers of the music scene) produced a song about the movement. Mr. Lif explains the song as their "attempt to offer inspiration, energy, and hopefully a morale boost to the Movement as it will take persistence and resilience to bring about change to the collective consciousness of our culture." Not to mention, the hook is catchy as hell. [...]

I shot the Luce Unplugged December performance yesterday at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. "Luce Unplugged" is a monthly series that has a local musician come play for an hour after chatting about one of the paintings in the area of his/her choice. It's a great idea, one that showcases the two things DC has a lot of: local musicians and free Smithsonian events. The performer for December was Title Tracks frontman John Davis , who performed some great covers, as well as tracks of his own. My piece for the [...]

Were you able to make it to our inaugural New Noise show at the Gibson Guitars Showroom earlier this month? If you did, then there's no need to explain how Savoir Adore and St. Lucia are two unstoppable musical forces you're going to want to watch out for in 2012. If you didn't, you missed out. But don't fret - at least we took photos of the whole thing. Big thanks to Laura Lopez for snapping these shots. You can check them all out after the jump. Until next time. [...]

Countless cities, countless venues, countless hours, countless beads of sweat, and countless memories. The fans, the energy, it's been an awe-inspiring and historical year - to say the least - for DC & Hooks, collectively ZEDS mother-fucking DEAD. Writing a show review for Zeds Dead always proves to be quite difficult. Why? It's like trying to write down the ingredients for aunt Betty's secret brownie recipe. Your never ever going to come close to the real deal, no matter how hard you try. Something will be left out every single time. So, ive decided to let the words take a [...]
![Fat Trel – Nightmare [Exclusive] + The Set List For The Show In Mix Compilation Form!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3928475_lg.jpg)
This is the first time I've blogged anything in a long ass time. The 9-to-5 life had me all but discard of this domain name, but alas, we're still alive! I came back here to announce that we're proud to present our next show, featuring DC's own Fat Trel . Check the flyer out above! Crazy, right!? I blogged about Trel pretty in-depth a little over a year ago (check that here ). While bigger names Wale and Tabi Bonney have worked diligently to put DC hip-hop on the map, Trel has [...]

The DMV's Beau Young Prince gives us a new single as well as the visuals to go with it. "No Way" is a track to tell his doubters off as well as letting us know that he's here to stay. Beau Young Prince has been grinding so hard as of lately, dropping tracks, mixtapes, and music videos quite often. He is a true underground talent from the DC area, his local producer B Dolla is on the come-up as well. So check these talented young guns out and enjoy. [...]

Funk music is ingrained in DC's history. So much so that DC was able to create and cultivate Go-Go music, it's own blend of funk - a genre of music championed by the incomparable Chuck Brown . I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Godfather would applaud what Big/Bright is trying to do. The band takes elements of traditional funk and combines them with distinctly electro and pop production. The result is a soulful groove that you can't help but dance to. The standout (and one of only a few tracks the [...]
