Coming in at 12 tracks over 35 minutes and 22 seconds, Black Square is the latest release by Toronto's five-piece DD/MM/YYYY (pronounced Day, Month, Year, if you must know). The downloadable version is available on iTunes as of February 17, 2009 and the physical release hits stores on March 17, 2009. As I was not already familiar with the group, my only prompt was that they are a "post-punk/experimental/weird" group. That's about as good as any description as I could come up with, so let's [...]

DD/MM/YYYY has played in nearly every major city in the US and Canada. Their noisy cacophony of math rock and synthesizers has landed them on tours with Crystal Castles, Japanther, and Video Hippos. They played recently played with Don Caballero and Fucking Thief at the Meridian. Theirnew album "Black Square" was released to itunes on February 17 and the CD will be available March 17. DD/MM/YYY will be playing with regional Houston bands in Austin on March 20 at the Indie Houston showcase . We were able to catch up with them and ask [...]

Sorry for the late posting of this week's Graboid, folks. The king of fighting games returned this week as Street Fighter IV was released on consoles, along with pretty much taking up any kind of free time i've had over the past couple of days. Hopefully, all of you can cut me some slack with the lack of posts this week for the time being. Sitting down earlier tonight to compile the goods from this week of album releases seemed rather daunting, as there are a staggering amount of quality [...]

by bmac THREE of us afloat in the meadow by the swing, Three of us aboard in the basket on the lea. Winds are in the air, they are blowing in the spring, And waves are on the meadow like the waves there are at sea. Where shall we adventure, to-day that we're afloat, Wary of the weather and steering by a star? Shall it be to Africa, a-steering of the boat, To Providence, or Babylon, or off [...]
by salo After letting our inbox overpopulate for a week, we finally chipped away at some of the hidden gems amongst the fodder. I must first note that the amount of "D.J.s" remixing popular songs from the likes of Kanye and Animal Collective is completely disturbing. Making a song out of two currently popular songs is not artistic, cool, or unique. It's cheap, shortsighted, and lame so this post is devoid of such tracks. Instead we got the Suburban Kids comeback, a [...]

Holy Shit! Is Merge giving away the mp3 and flac versions of The Bright Orange Years and All Night Lotus Party by Volcano Suns ?? It looks like it. Listen: "Truth Is Stranger Than Fishing" (box.net mp3) Download the albums here (for what I assume is a limited time). What are you waiting for, huh? UPDATE: The freebie (if it ever existed) is now gone. Mp3 downloads of the albums cost $8.99 each, here . For [...]

We've been fans of DD/MM/YYYY 's electronic-post-punk experiment for sometime now. The Canadian outfit, known for swapping instruments mid-set, embodies a sound that allows them to play seamlessly alongside just about any band at any time. As evidenced by their nearly three-month long North American tour in support of their newest LP, Black Square , the first single off of the March 17 release is "Digital Haircut". Scheduled for digital release on February 17th, street release on March 17th through We Are Busy Bodies (Canada) [...]

We're winding down here and it's time for the deluge of min-terviews and more. Today we've got Jana Hunter, DD/MM/YYYY and the Creepers featured. Jana Hunter First up is Jana Hunter, fairly recent Texan transplant to Baltimore, serving up some delicious, jangling, startlingly transparent and moving music. She was also the first bold soul to call us out on our slightly sarcastic costume question #5. Listen to some tunes and read on, intrepid web surfer! MP3: Jana Hunter [...]

Q: Mr. T Cereal ?? Really? A: Yes. dd/mm/yyyy makes Mr. T Cereal now. So listen already (why not?): "Mr. T Cereal" (box.net mp3) (source: myspace ) from the album Are They Masks? NOTE: While I do have vague recollections of Mr. T cereal, but I heard about "Mr. T Cereal" (the song not the cereal) on the Oh My Rockness podcast... here . Myspace page is here . The Real World Is So Unreal is [...]

I apologise for the slow download speeds, alternative links where provided will be quicker, otherwise just cultivate some patience innit =) Nearly a year ago I posted this song by David E. Sugar , I stumbled over the song again while perusing my collection of 8-bit tunes and decided it is well worthy of a re-post. I'm sure it'll be met with greater approval now than back then, after all chip is now hip. [...]

So, as I write this - Thursday night - I'm kinda drunk. Work function. And while I'd normally just skip posting today on account of the aforementioned inebriation, I want to plug a show going on at Sneaky Dee's tonight. The main act in question is Parts & Labor from le Brooklyn who have just released their new album Mapmaker on Jagjaguwar and you know what? It's pretty smokin'. Take some good, solid, anthemic rock songs in the vein of Husker Du or [...]
This was my first visit to Todd P's mostly (totally?) legit venue in East Williamsburg, which has a real bar (still cheap drinks) while still offering that basement party vibe that he's known for. I wish it was a little...
