Well I managed to resurrect Mix Tape Monday already, so why not work on bringing back our Throwback Thursdays ? It is ambitious sure, since a Thursday is substantially more in the middle of a week than a Monday is, but I got a good feeling about this, but I also make no promises. Anyway, this week I will be taking a look back at one of the most ridiculous releases in music history that is also incredibly awesome, the soundtrack to the Emilio Estevez star vehicle, " Judgment Night ". [...]

Yep, that's correct. I know, it makes me feel old too. But on a happier note, one of my all-time favorite hip-hop albums that abuses the art of sampling (ATCQ's Low End Theory and De La Soul's De La Soul is Dead would also fall into that category) is being remastered and reissued. So now it actually does have enough bass to shatter your one frozen testicle. - Mike D Check out their website to be informed of the release date as it is [...]

Resident Tripwire videographer Maia Stern was lucky enough to get tickets to the inauguration ceremonies on Tuesday. But her luck didn't stop there, because she got to attend the private Shepard Fairey inauguration party where both Santogold and De La Soul performed, while

Dan Le Sac make's the funkiest beats and Scroobius Pip gives us his rather intelligent and satrical opinions about the current pop culture on this hit last year. Now they've enlisted De La Soul to spice it up even further. Don't get too hot on this one, 'cause afterall, they're just a band like Pip said. And if you're edited to that beat like I do, look below this sentence. Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill (The Sunday Best Cosmic Dub) Posted in [...]

The nomination process for the 2009 Bloggie Awards has begun and you have until Monday January 12th at 10pm (EST) to nominate your favorite sites for a Bloggie. I've just completed the nomination form myself and I've put together a swell little mix to accompany the selections I made. Check it out below: it doesn't include every site I nominated, but it does have songs to go along with quite a few of the blogs I picked. Who knows, maybe you'll discover a new site or song here that you'll end up loving forever and ever...? [...]

This single release I had a tough time with. On one hand it is a release of a track that is almost two years old now as it was originally release in April 2007. Then they had to go in get Pos Plug One from De La Soul to help out on the track. But, after hearing the track so many times already and this one is hard to recommend. It is great to hear Da La Soul again but its been nearly five year since their last release. While, back in 07 the song generated a lot of fun [...]

01. Artist and friend Sherill Anne Gross made the above Pinup , which incorporates more than 6000 pieces of hand-cut paper for the shag carpeting. Obsessive but awesome. 02. Inspired By Tim Duffy 2008 was a shit year for music. With the economy falling down around us, the music industry continued to crumble under the pressure of the internet...falling down, down, down and barely even pulling in a cent (or so they would like you to believe). Bands inspired by the few cash cows we have left aped and copied their way through records. Folks were led to believe that a band like Fleet Foxes made a better, more lasting impression with their record then say someone like Deerhunter did. [...]

a happy new year to all of you! i can't believe it's been already half a year since i've gotten this going, and i must say it's been quite a ride. one of the challenges (apart from keeping up to the regular updates) was really writing about songs rather than about albums as i'm more used to. it's forced me to take things as they are, and sometimes not be too serious about whether everything fits in a coherent whole, since songs sometimes work best just on their own. but i also did promise you i'd write about the albums [...]

Defying the usual country-based pigeon holing Eslaam Jawaad represents the UK, US and Lebanon. With past work with Wu affiliate Cilvaringz, UK Apache, Asian Dub Foundation and Damon Albarn’s latest band The Good, The Bad, and the Queen Mr. Jawaad has been busy. And the less we mention about mafia connections the better. His new single ‘Rewind DJ’, whilst sounding a little clichéd is classic stuff. Firstly, it features De La Soul who deliver the goods with some thoughtful and sometimes scatterbrained vocals. The chorus is robbed (almost) straight from Aliyah’s ‘Try Again’ and outlines Eslam’s [...]
