Fresh off of releasing the excellent In The Marrow for his day job fronting Dead Confederate . T. Hardy Morris is getting ready to release his solo debut, The Audition Tapes on July 30th. The album has a decidedly different sounds from Dead Confederate, but one that Morris sounds equally as comfortable with. His time spent with John McCauley and crew for Diamond Rugs seems to have really paid dividends. Here is some more info from the PR firm on a cool project that Morris is doing. One of the videos can be found [...]

Lead singer of psych band Dead Confederate and member of supergroup Diamond Rugs, T. Hardy Morris will release his debut solo album Audition Tapes , but it's not the kind of brash rock you'd expect from his résumé. "Beauty Rest" is a prime example of the calming beauty Morris is bringing. Its black-and-white clip was filmed in Rock House in Thompson, GA, which is recognized as the oldest surviving stone house in the state. Morris chose to film here as part of his Places In Peril project inspired by the Georgia Trust For Historic Preservation's list of historical structure [...]

Marc Muldin photograph A rock sound that slam dances and guitar rocks on the fine line between psychedelia and darkness DEAD CONFEDERATE are a hard band to nail down but an easy one to to love. For the uninitiated, Dead Confederate is a five-piece rock band from Athens, GA. Each of their last two releases have been placed near the very top of our annual best albums list (for Sugar from 2011 and Wrecking Ball from 2008) and with a new effort, [...]

The guys have you covered, and can probably send you some leads on obtaining a drummer's sock or two. The brilliantly weird Americana of the Handsome Family has long been a fave at MM and new album Wilderness is awaited here with much eagerness. For now, enjoy the video for Woodpecker about the famous 1890s Wisconsin window smasher Mary Sweeney (pre-order the album here ) and stream a second album track in the shape of Caterpillars . We've already posted a couple of times about Dead Confederate this year and new album In The Marrow is a triumph of muscular crunchy guitars and swaggering, drawled vocals. [...]
We've always maintained a positive approach here at HearYa. If we didn't like, we just didn't review it. But to give the full context behind this review, a little negativity must seep in. You see, I, along with everybody here at HearYa loved Dead Confederate's self-titled EP and their debut LP, Wrecking Ball. Wrecking ball was a heavy tense affair that never gave you a minute to breath. But their follow up, Sugar, really left me wanting. So with that in mind, my expectations for In The Mirror were moderate at best. My hopes were pinned to Hardy's [...]

Fresh off releasing an excellent album with Dead Confederate (review forthcoming), lead singer T. Hardy Morris is set to release his debut solo album - The Audition Tapes. The album will be out on July 30th on Dangerbird Records. Here's some background info: His world-weary vocals rich with nostalgia and sympathy, songs like "Disaster Proof" and the stark album closer, "Own Worst Enemy," find Morris chronicling a rich cast of characters devastated by drink, drugs, and depression, both personal and economic. "It's largely about the hometown me and the other guys in Dead Confederate grew up in," he [...]

I don't know if I've ever seen a news story with as much misinformation floating around than the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing. From how many people were killed, to the real and desired suspects, to linked bombings and even fictional sources. The rumors grew so prevalent that law enforcement started believing in the rumors that were started by a media outlet, who said that they
Dead Confederate kills it with infectious psych-driven, grungy rock. Watch out, they're blending genres and taking names.

Dead Confederate is back for their third album, In The Marrow, out on 4/16. We have their first track, Vacations, below. It sounds like the boys from Athens are getting back to the basics of their amazing debut, Wrecking Ball. We had the boys in for a session five years ago and it still remains one of my favorites. You can find it here . Tweet

Spring as a metaphor for fertility and renewal may be a worn-out cliche, but it's hard not to feel optimistic about the future when porch weather hits Atlanta and you've got this much potentially great new music to look forward to. I mean, March certainly had its moments—new records from AkuYou , deadCAT and Calm White Noise come to mind, as do those Cloudeater singles—but April just looks filthy stacked . And unlike last month, which saw many of the releases arrive in the form of singles or short EPs, April comes [...]
It has been 30 months since the release of Dead Confederate's last LP, Sugar. Although that might sound like a long time frame, the Athens, Ga., crew has been hard at work, putting out 18 unreleased tracks for free as well as the Peyote People EP. Dead Confederate's latest album is titled In The Marrow and [...]
