Yes, I'm talking about Dead Confederate again. Not just because I'm the fan, but because the event sounds like a good time. Sure, you could hang out with the same ol folks that you work with, go to the Band of Horses show if you have a ticket, or hang out in some sports bar with a bunch of folks that you really wouldn't be hanging out with otherwise, but it's Club de Ville and chances are, there will be folks that hang out in the same scene that you do. That, and Dead Confederate are playing! There will be [...]

By now, we all aware that R.E.M. are playing SXSW 2008, and now the complete details of the event have been revealed. Wednesday March 12th, R.E.M. will take the stage @ Stubbs with a interesting group of supporting acts. Dead Confederate , Papercranes , Johnathan Rice , and Summerbirds in the Cellar have been listed as the supporting groups via the R.E.M. website. Dead Confederate? Hey, those guys are playing our party as well. Sweet! MP3> R.E.M. 'Fall on Me' [...]

This just in: EAR FARM favorites Dead Confederate have been confirmed as one of the opening bands for R.E.M. (apparently hand-picked by R.E.M.) at Stubb's in Austin during this year's South by Southwest . The show starts at 8:00pm on March 12th and Dead Confederate will be playing at 11:00pm directly prior to R.E.M. Here's the entire lineup in order: Summerbirds in the Cellar Johnathan Rice Papercranes Dead Confederate [...]

Looking through the very first big week of album releases, I can't help but feel completely overwhelmed by all of it. Not only are we graced with new music from more well-known names, but there is just as much quality here from some names that may not exactly be on everyone's radar. Of course, we have Cat Power's second covers album, Jukebox , along with the latest effort from Drive-By Truckers, Brighter Than Creation's Dark - both of which are names that surely jump to mind right off the bat. I've only listened to [...]

We have finally reached the weeks of huge release lists. This week boasts some big names and plenty of new bands ready to place themselves among some of your favorites. This week has a few EPs and a lot of full lengths, pretty much everything you could want. My pick for this week is MGMT's Oracular Spectacular . I know many people are looking forward to Cat Power's CD full of covers, but after spending a long time with the MGMT release, I have to say that it is fantastic. Not sticking to one genre, this album [...]

Here's the good stuff that's out in the U.S. on Tues Jan 22nd... The Whitsundays - self-titled [Debut album from Edmonton 4-piece.] "With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of The Zombies and the haunting vocal harmonies of The Beach Boys , The Whitsundays ' debut manages to transport the sounds of the '60s across the same updated palates employed by bands like The Shins and Belle & Sebastian [...]

Have you heard of Dead Confederate yet? Their name keeps popping up at various sites I frequent out there in internet-land and Sonic Itch has been fastidiously recommending that I check them out. Rumor has it they're in town an debut album with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon), and rumor also has it that they'll be opening up for one of those bigtime acts who will be performing at Stubb's during SXSW. But first, they will be playing at Mohawk tomorrow night with Christian Bland of the Black Angels. This should be a good show, and you can get [...]

Athens, GA's Dead Confederate arrive in town this weekend to start the recording to their self-titled EP with local producer Mike McCarthy. The band will be playing live in Austin for the first time ever on Sunday 1.20 @ The Mohawk with The Tunnels and Christian Bland (Black Angels). Admittedly, I've been a bit hung up on this band as of recent, ever since I caught wind of the heavy sweeping hypnotic southern psychedelic rock sounds via the fine folks over at KEXP in Seattle, and the opportunity to see the [...]

Dead Confederate wears their Southern heritage on their collective sleeve. Let's face it, for whatever reason we all do. But this band does it very openly within their name, eschewing pretension and cutting right to the chase like a bayonet through soft Union soldier skin. Say it with me: DEAD CONFEDERATE. Immediately they've declared roughly where they're from (specifically it's Atlanta, Augusta, and Athens, Georgia) and just as quickly they've laid out for you in no uncertain terms that their music is going to resonate a bit differently than the superficial drawl of the [...]

List season is great for one thing...well, other than the crabby people's opportunity to tell other people how incredibly uncool they are for not having the same opinion. No, it's actually good for those incredibly uncool people to quickly find out about the best stuff they missed out on during the year. That's what I like about it at least, and I'm happy to be incredibly uncool and find some new gems. Anyway, I checked out all the sites I like, and a bunch I didn't know I liked (all thanks to LargeHearted [...]
What do Bowerbirds , Yeasayer , and Vampire Weekend have in common? They're all featured in EAR FARM's list of the top ten bands to "emerge" in 2007. How about Dead Confederate , The Secret Life Of Sofia , and Le Loup ?? Just a few bands to be on the lookout for in 2008. After the jump you'll find seven more bands that EAR FARM deems to be the rest of the top ten bands to "emerge" in 2007, followed by seven others to watch out for in [...]
Dead Confederate are from Athens, Georgia and the first band to be signed to the The Artist's Organization with their deal through Razor And Tie, the marvelously eclectic folks who have brought you Kidz Bop, Dar Williams, Sam Champion and Ryan Shaw (among others). Dead Confederate will bring new meaning to notion that the "the South's gonna do it again." Imagine a brooding intense mix of guitar

Dead Confederate are from Athens, Joeja (that's my southern accent) and the first band to be signed to the The Artist's Organization with their deal through Razor And Tie , the marvelously eclectic folks who have brought you Kidz Bop, Dar Williams, Sam Champion and Ryan Shaw (among others). Dead Confederate will bring new meaning to notion that the "the South's gonna do it again." Shit, the South never actually stopped doing it. It just became uncool to actually like what they've been doing, [...]
Know I'm a little late on this, but wanted to do a real quick wrapup of the Dinosaur Jr. show at the Black Cat the other night. First off, let me repeat what I said the other night -- Dead Confederate are incredible. I'd heard good things about them prior to the show, and had meant to catch their show at The Red and The Black a month or so ago, but for one reason or another kept missing them.
I'm completely regretting my decisions of last night. I was supposed to go to Mercury Lounge to check out a band called Dead Confederate, but instead I worked a little late and decided to call it an early night by going home and getting some sleep. After a restless night of not really getting much sleep I now know that I could have seen an excellent band and gotten about the same amount of shut

I recently got in touch with a few local blogger friends to help build a playlist for a little party we were putting together. Basically I asked them to send over a few tracks that always end up getting played at their parties, and to provide a bit of info about their picks and/or blog. Each one gave me some good stuff that is representative of the kinds of music that they're into, so if any of these tracks make your fingers snap then check out their site to hear more like it. [...]

DOWNLOAD: Dead Confederate - The Rat (live on KEXP) (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Dead Confederate - Get Out (MP3) Like Deerhunter & Black Lips , Dead Confederate are from Atlanta, GA, and are playing a show in Athens, Georgia show on December 5th. Unlike Deerhunter & Black Lips, Dead Confederate's music didn't immediately do anything for me. Their name does keep coming up though - KEXP likes them, and they're signed to Razor & Tie. New Yorkers can give them a try [...]
