Although they've been off of the local live circuit for a few months, it should be no surprise to anyone that the members of Big Rock Candy Mountain have had no trouble picking up where they left off. Michael Girardot is a constantly-working artist, splitting time between his front man duties for BRCM and keyboard work with both the Revivalists and greatest band in the universe Rotary Downs, while drummer Paul Thibodeaux - a classically trained jazz musician - regularly collaborates with everyone from Bionica's Sasha Masakowski to Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship's [...]
The 3rd Annual Hangout Music Festival is on once again and the Gulf Coast beach fest will take place May 18-20, 2012 at the same Gulf Shores, AL locale. Last year's lineup included Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Widespread Panic, Flaming Lips and Foo Fighters and the initial major artist lineup announcement for the 2012 [...]

I am becoming more and more confident in talking on the radio. I am slowly developing my voice - my on-air personality. There is still room for improvement; namely in the transition from Stuarto's show to mine, but I'll get there eventually. Last Friday's show was centered around indie-folk again, with plenty of psychedelic folk, orchestral folk, and folk-pop as well. As started last week, two songs will be featured at bottom. "Notorious Lightning" by Destroyer off Your Blues "Shanty for the Arethusa" [...]

Scuzzy rock and roll never seems to go out entirely of fashion, like brick architecture on American college campuses or suit jackets for dinner. But, Georgians, in geography not style, Turf War spit a no-nonsense version of rock that has largely been cannibalized in independent music by something allegedly more esoteric or thoughtful or market-driven. This type of unfiltered, whiskey on a sore

As POPPED! Music Festival quickly approaches, I'm trying to get up on some of the different acts performing during the two day event down at FDR Park. Dead Confederate is not one of the performers I need to brush up on or check out. I've been a fan of these guys since the first time I heard frontman Hardy Morris scream the opening lines to "Heavy Petting". Rumor has it DC will be performing a Neil Young cover set at POPPPED, but I am hoping that is mixed in with some original material. Either way, they'll [...]

Greetings readers and viewers! Wow, it’s good to be back at (the hypothetical) Cluster 1 headquarters. As Media Specialist, sometimes it is required to go to the source and create some of that media ourselves. After a journey to Sasquatch! with our staff, I have returned from shooting videos to finding and posting them here for your viewing pleasure. So, it’s good to be back, but make sure you check out all our footage from Sasquatch! as well. Without further adieu…here’s what’s new. Premieres: W-H-I-T-E – [...]
Along with words and photos , Consequence of Sound covered the 2011 edition of the Hangout Music Festival from a video perspective. Our video channel, Cluster 1, had the opportunity to sit down with four of the festival's hottest artists: Girl Talk, Widespread Panic, Portugal. the Man, and Dead Confederate. Available above is a clip of our discussion with Girl Talk mastermind Greg Gillis, which was conducted by Scott Greenberg. Among the topics discussed were which live bands he would like to see reinterpret his mash-ups, why he would never have [...]

One year ago, the future of the Hangout Music Festival was far from certain. The concept was definitely intriguing: a three day, multi-genre music festival on the beach in Gulf Shore, AL, with high production values and big name talent. The festival only drew about 15,000 people in its first year, though, a number that was well short of the 35,000 capacity. Attendance might have been affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that hit the Gulf of Mexico less than a month before the festival started, but that couldn't have been the sole reason why [...]
Dead Confederate + Big Gigantic + School of Rock + Primus + Pretty Lights + Flaming Lips perform at the Hangout Music Festival on May 21, 2011

Dead Confederate's Hardy Morris at the Hangout Music Festival on May 21, 2011 I was gonna give you guys a well written, healthy-sized wrap-up of today’s rad shows, but I just endured the world’s longest dinner with the world’s least attentive waiter. I am exhausted and full of crab. So here’s the happs, in bulleted form: *Xavier Rudd has always been jammy, but he has a nice electronica touch in his recent work, pleasing both the hippies and the rave kids. *Georgia group Dead Confederate was the find of the day. Blistering, [...]

Here's what's good in Nashville for Monday, March 14, 2011: • Jack White talks Third Man Records & production with Mary Lucia of Minnesota Public Radio . • Ke$ha got bloody at this past weekend's Future Music Festival, drinking (fake?) blood from a (fake?) animal heart on stage during her performance . • We Were the States released a live video performance of " Hot Waves " which was recently shot downtown. • In case you missed it, [...]

Dead Confederate and The Whigs have just announced a co-headline tour for February 2011, in which they will smash up seven cities around the UK.
