Dead Flower Motel is a quality offering of alt-country from Austin based Chris Brecht and Dead Flowers a heady mix of Brecht's ragged vocal, guitars, reverb and pedal steel interspersed with harmonica and keys to support the self penned tunes written by Brecht in his apartment during the twilight hours - he describes himself as "an avid late night poet" and the songs to posses a hazy and worn-in feel that sits well with the lyrics. The album is released as an independent venture these guys deserve some attention and if you can spare the cash [...]

No vocoder, no auto-tune and no attitude, Ke$ha still sounds good on this acoustic rendition of the Rollings Stones classic. Filed under: Beats , Clip , Yankee Panky Tagged: album , covers , dead flowers , download , kesha , leak , new , single , song

Caitlin Rose - Daytrotter Session It has been awhile since we waxed positive about one of our favorite Nashville songstresses, Caitlin Rose . Recently added to the bill at Austin City Limits, Ms. Rose has quickly made a name for herself in her hometown playing with a revolving door of fantastic musicians such as Justin Townes Earle ( flood victim relief concert ) Jordan Caress (who supports her on this Daytrotter session - what up Jordan!) And the Relatives, Johnny Corndawg, Bowerbirds, Tristen (!) and more. Her draw is beginning to [...]

Download the Mix 1. The Veils - Sit Down By The Fire An absolute epic on a record that could've used a few more of them, to be honest. Big, rolling drums and chiming acoustic guitar sound like a statement of intent from From Finn Andrews and Co. Myspace 2. Pete Doherty - Arcady Ever since Up the Bracket , Pete has dealt with high expectations. His failure to [...]
For those of you keeping track, we somehow held off posting about Caitlin Rose since July 14. Recently featured on the cover of the Nashville Scene , Caitlin (known affectionately to some as Cato) joined local female artists Tristen and Those Darlins as they were profiled in an amazing feature by Scenester Tracy Moore (Holla!) -- a must read article for those interested in the fantastically talented and interwoven Nashville music underground. Caitlin has been working hard to get her debut full-length off the ground (not yet given a street date,) [...]

Quite by chance, I've found myself listening almost exclusively to music from Denmark recently. When I realized this, I thought it would be a good idea to put some of the best stuff I've heard into a mix for Dead Flowers visitors. Too short to be a comprehensive guide, too dark to be a summer mix , "The Sound of Young Denmark" should still be a good introduction to the country's most intriguing artists. Of course, if I missed somebody, let me know in comments. Enjoy... Tracklist: 1. Sune Rose Wagner : [...]
We'll admit that much, if not most, contemporary mainstream country leaves us pretty unfazed one way or the other. Far too often, paint-by-number songwriting , schmaltzy tear-in-your-beer sentiments and twangin' hayseed elements render a lot of what's on the country radio charts predictable, safe and assembly-line boring (much like Top 40 pop, actually). Often even a great song gets its production so overworked and overwrought that the soul is just bleached out. Then there are the exceptions...a great song joined with a voice just meant to sing it and a production that [...]
YUS!! Here is the "Studio Version" of "Dead Flowers" the upcoming single from country's rock princess Miranda Lambert. It sounds more Acoustic than the torrid performance version @ the ACM's , maybe there will be a more rocking version that is released to radio in the next few weeks? Let's hope so. I like this version better than the crappy quality of the ACM live audio that I've had on repeat this week, but I think this version needs to be amped up with more [...]

Ida Maria: "Oh My God" If I were to create something as wretchedly passe as a best album list, Ida Maria's Fortress Round My Heart would probably sit a top of it. Here's what I said in my review: Instead, think about the good things here: the way "Queen of the World" sounds like "Vertigo" by The Libertines, or "Stella" rips

Myspace // "In The Shape" [mp3] // Live & The Roxy in LA [Video] "(On The Wing Now)… is a jangly, '60s-via-2007 mash-up that recalls Brian Jonestown Massacre… Laced with dreamy synth and shimmering echoes, from the anthemic refrain of opener "Union Hall to the droning Jesus & Mary Chain pulse of the epic "The Nights Tall." - NYLON LA band Foreign Born released their debut album last year on [...]
[Artwork by Marcel Dzama]Putting together a year-end 'Best Of' list is always a tricky proposition. An album might have been on constant rotation at the beginning of the year, only to fall off one's musical map by the time December rolls around. With that in mind, here was the music that most impressed me during the year, and the music that got the most plays. The Mix: [Download it Here] [Use
Let's face it: any jerk can put some Pulp and Elastica on a CD and call it a Britpop mix. The recent Brit Box? Good intentions, but kind of boring. In the end, only one person could put you inside the head of a University of Michigan sophomore studying abroad in London in '96. Only one person could pick the music that would evoke day trips to Manchester on Smiths pilgrimages, or evenings spent

[Image by Marcel Dzama] There are a couple rules when composing a summer mix: Keep it simple. Trim the fat. Play the hits. Download the mix and see if I got it right. Enjoy... Tracklist: 1. Brian Jonestown Massacre : "The Ballad of Jim Jones" 2. Swervedriver : "The Hitcher" 3. Ash : "A Life Less Ordinary" 4. Foreign Born : "In the Shape" 5.
