I loved a lot of stuff but there wasn't any one album that stood head and shoulders above the rest. There are a number that vie for most-listened-to-in-their-enti rety, however, and those are the ones that made this list. One thing they all have in common is that there aren't any (well, not many) over-the-top woe-is-me type songs. There are sad ones, of course, a certain amount of melancholy is practically a requirement [...]

I have been thinking long and hard on exactly why this is. As I went back through 2010 I noticed that my favorite albums were some of my best friends throughout the year. I could relate to them. I listened to them when I needed a shoulder to cry on, when I needed something to calm my soul or even to just hang out and enjoy their company. This group of albums below has been a major part of my life this year. I enjoy [...]

There's a kindness to this record, a sense of comfort and self-forgiveness even as he admits all his mistakes, recounts his losses and remembers painful times. I can't stop listening to it, from start to finish. Dead Heart Bloom is a foursome from New York City, led by Boris Skalsky. Strange Waves , which [...]

The 9 track record takes you on a dreamy guitar driven ambient-folk carpet ride that I never want to end. I could sit and read the lyrics like poetry. A definite progression in their music and I am loving every moment. A must for 2010 - Buy it here and support the artist directly. mp3: [...]

DEAD HEART BLOOM-Strange Waves

by Berkeley Place

Dead Heart Bloom are understated. That's their biggest problem. Their songs, almost all of them, start with a slow quiet roll, burst into chorus, and then roll back. It's the format pioneered by the Pixies, but without the punk energy. Instead, the choruses are poppy, almost sunny. Almost. There's an undercurrent of sadness that permeates all of the band's latest full length, Strange Waves. Why is this a problem? Because it's misleading. There's elements of The Beatles, Roxy Music, and other classic rockers here, and there's a lot of [...]

by Everybody Taste

Soft and slow-building, from the repeated pick of an acoustic guitar to the reverb-soaked layers of vocals and tambourine, "Flash In A Bottle" by DC-via-New York City band Dead Heart Bloom is the sort of cinematic-friendly song that washes everything you see in a pleasant and surreal light. I highly recommend it, especially if you're planning any sort of road trip. Dead Heart Bloom - "Flash In A Bottle" (from In Chains )

After thinking about it (and asking a few friends), I decided to go ahead and post the whole thing. So here it is in its entirety. I call it "Snow Mix." How original is that?
