The concept of the covers record is, in itself, an inherently disorienting experience as once cherished songs are heaved, hoed and traditionally hauled out of the cozy comfort zone that familiarity so often incurs within the musical world. Though to hear Buzz Osborne's sludge mongers the Melvins shred their cruddy way through a couple minutes of Black Betty which sound as though the sonic equivalent to the exhumed entrails of Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter himself dusted down and swung overhead to exude a blackened, gritty blend of fetid blood and granular dirt, is positively dizzying as the Afro-American [...]
Still Water is a perfectly building album, each track a time-lapsed still-frame shot of a skyscraper being erected from the vantage point of Felix Walworth’s heart.

By Mike Masnick of Techdirt . At the always wonderful SF Music Tech conference yesterday, I went to what should have been a fascinating panel discussion about "artist revenue streams." It had Kristin Thomson from the Future of Music Coalition, talking about their wonderful artist revenue streams project, as well as Steve Rennie, who manages the band Incubus, among others. And then there was the third panelist, East Bay Ray, of the band The Dead Kennedys. Despite that band once mocking [...]

In a less than flattering portrayal , Techdirt.com has some commentary on Dead Kennedys ' guitarist East Bay Ray and his " rant complaining about all these internet sites that don't pay him. " According to their story, Ray is upset with the easy availability of Dead Kennedys music on sites which do not pay him royalties, but also have advertising. He cited an example of a Russian file sharing site which pays nothing, and of Youtube which does pay but at a lower rate than iTunes: [...]

Back in the late seventies, I broke my jaw in a car accident. It wasn't my fault-a telephone pole ran out in front of me-but the next thing I knew a physician was wiring my mouth shut, leaving me to mumble like the elderly Don Corleone and forcing me to spend the next six weeks sucking my meals through a straw. As if that weren't torture enough, there was my housemate Steds, who sadistically insisted upon consuming colossal Dagwood sandwiches in my presence when my entire diet consisted of cheese soup and vile vanilla protein [...]

If the name "Crisis Of Conformity" rings a bell, you may have seen them featured on Saturday Night Live (or maybe you're just confusing them with Corrosion Of Conformity). The brainchild of Fred Armisen (Trenchmouth, Blue Man Group), Crisis Of Conformity was created as sort of a nod and tribute to the punk bands he grew up listening to. You could find the sketch online , I have to say... even though the band was created as a joke I find myself listening to the 2 song quite a bit actually. Even though the skit features Dave [...]
Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust Inc: Lost Tapes Some awesome video footage of the Dead Kennedys during a recording session. Well worth the watch! Check it out.

An interview with La Fin Absolute Du Monde , who I first introduced in December 2012. In which we discuss, T he Dead Kennedys , Gretna Green , cooking recipes and so much more. La Fin Absolute Du Monde Apologies for the quality of my microphone at the very start of this interview as it sounds as though I am speaking through water, but it quickly clears up. Début de la fin: [...]

Next month, the current incarnation of legendary band Dead Kennedys will be playing a handful of shows in the northeast.
CLASSICS WEEK: Dead Kennedys' Plastic Surgery Disasters is easily one of the most creative, colorful, and unique hardcore albums of the 80s. With stellar performances from the band and some of the best social satire out there from frontman Jello Biafra, this record deserves much more praise than it actually gets. WATCH THE REVIEW

We fell in love with LA based Criminal Hygiene the moment we heard them. It's garage punk rock at it's very best - plenty of dirt with just a little strange thrown in. We were so infatuated with their two singles, the rollicking "Black Water" (complete with perhaps the catchiest backing vocals of the year) and "Rearrange Me", that we asked James, Sean and Michael to make us a mix of songs they were influenced by when making their debut LP. Yıllar önce Roll dergisinde okumuştum. Cem Karaca Beyaz Show sahnesinde... Cem Karaca: Şarkıları prova ediyoruz. Alman bir davulcum vardı. "Dadaloğlu"nu dinleyince "bu punk" dedi. Dadaloğlu punk olur mu ya! Kafasını kopartacaktım herifin. Beyaz: Abi, ne biliyorsun? Belki Dadaloğlu da kendisine punk denmesinden hoşlanıyordur. Belki de hoşlanıyordur, neden hoşlanmasın? Padişahın fermanına meydan okuyan bir adam Dadaloğlu. Punk'un hakiki [...]
