It is according to the dude who took it sometime during the 1980s, Irish Willis Peele! It's hard to tell for sure, but I buy it. At least, I'd like to think that my favorite faux news anchor is the kind of dude who once would have jumped into the pit. Stewart - who still would have [...]

So, hey, remember that awesome Larry David/Motörhead shirt mash-up that Vince discovered a couple of years back? Sure you do - friggin' thing is hilarious. And if you live in NYC and have been to a show since the shirt's release, chances are you've even seen Vince wearing it a few times. I mean, the [...]
Dead Kennedys - MTV get off the Air In honor of the pic I reblogged of John Stewart moshing at a DK gig, I'm going to post a classic DK track. MTV get off the air. Years ago, MTV had a few good music programs, but mostly they played cheesy pop videos over and over again, like pop radio does with modern hits. Now they play stupid reality shows and shitty teen dramas. The more things change, the more they stay the same, huh?! Enjoy the Dead Kennedys! Peace. http://www.alternativetentacle s.com/

Photographer Irish Willis Peele 's thing was shooting punk band Frontline (and others) in Virginia, and his archive includes the above pic of students moshing at a Dead Kennedys show. According to Peele, the man in the center is none other than The Daily Show 's Jon Stewart, who was a student at William & Mary at the time. Fuckyeahjonstewart.tumblr.com to thread, immediately! I live in Washington,DC which is home to a whole lot of punk rock history. Fugazi, Dischord Records, Scream ....the list goes on and on. I respect the harder stuff and will listen to it in small doses...but me, I'm more of a power pop kind of girl. A good hook and a catchy chorus that makes me want to dance around while listening is that which is near and dear to my heart. So it was completely fabulous this year to discover a couple local bands with songs and sensibilities along those lines. The shimmering [...]

¿Cuántas bandas a manera de homenaje, ironía o simple juego de palabra, recurren a usar el nombre de otros artistas o personajes emblemáticos dentro del suyo propio? No sabemos, pero acá va una lista de los que nos acordamos: 1. Ringo Deathstarr 2. The Dandy Warhols 3. Natalie Portman's Shaved Head 4. Michael Jackson y las Sacerdotisas de Baal [...]
Protest movements often result in music that is repetitive and uninspiring, if only for the small number of widely identifiable protest songs. You shouldn't be forced to listen to "The Times They Are a-Changin'" twenty times per day. Levine, who worked at Zuccotti Park's info desk, compiles a dozen songs that better fit this movement, and many others as well

Now that I have a great turntable and pre-amp, I've been visiting the archives to see which albums and singles deserve to be re-recorded and re-posted. Obviously, the soundtrack to Urgh! A Music War was one of the first on the list. These new recordings sound light-years better than my last attempt, and I highly recommended you download them even if you have an older copy I posted. I've talked about Urgh! several times over, so I'll keep the intro brief. It's an amazing document of a time period in music, when the punk [...]
Like most teenagers, I spent much of my four years in high school trying to figure out where I fit in.

Death Cult Summer Camp by Drunken Sufis It is bands like Drunken Sufis that make me miss CBGB and the old Continental where you could see 5 - 6 bands on a weekend night and there would always be a band that you hadn't heard of that would catch your ear. I remember being impressed the first time I saw The A.K.A's (who opened for The Dwarves) and Drunken Sufis sound like The A.K.A's crossed with the Dead Kennedy's. Drunken Sufis recently released Death Cult [...]
First of all, I have to say it's hard to choose between all the amazing talent on Aural Sects ( yep, it's pronounced the way you think it is ). Featuring Black Ceiling has been a long time coming. When I did my first big witchhouse roundup , everyone commenting was in agreement on one thing: Black Ceiling is a beast. Then Black Ceiling's album came out. So uh, that changed everything. In all seriousness, I mean this: Black Ceiling's II is my favorite album of 2011. No [...]
I'm a sucker for a good horror movie (an even bigger sucker for a horrible horror movie), a few friends, and doing scary things like wander up to a cemetery at midnight ( esp. Stepp Cemetary) or exploring an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Indy even has an abandoned asylum and an abandoned [...]

Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray's latest project, The Killer Smiles (out Sept. 13 on MVD Audio), may be the closest thing to a new DKs album since 1986's Bedtime for Democracy . This new disc features Ray along with current DKs vocalist Skip McSkipster and Greg Reeves (who was the touring bassist for the DKs last year) along with drummer Steve Wilson. In a recent interview, Ray said that this new disc was originally conceived as a DKs disc but McSkipster's lyrics are " more 'personal politics' and more 'poetry,' rather than [...]

Influential Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray announces the release of the self-titled debut album of his new band, East Bay Ray and The Killer Smiles. The record will come out September 13, 2011 via MVD Audio. The 12 new tracks were produced by Paul Leary, Butthole Surfers guitarist and widely known for producing Sublime's massive self-titled CD and their single "Santeria." Along with Ray's distinctive sound, the recording also features the voice and lyrics of Skip McSkipster from the Wynonna Riders and recent Dead Kennedys' tours. As East Bay Ray describes [...]
Filed under: News Courtesy of DeadKennedys.com A good jingle can go a long way in selling a product, but simple sonics don't usually exhibit extraordinary powers over an individual. Still, the folks over at Heineken aren't taking any chances. The Dutch beer giant has recalled an ad featuring a cover of the Dead Kennedys classic 'Too Drunk to F---' after claims that the spot encouraged binge drinking. Though the party anthem was stripped of [...]
